Apache OpenOffice Downloads are Broken...

2014-12-07 Thread mprest7
I've tested on multiple browsers and this all goes nowhere (or in circles).
It's a bummer as I'd like to try Apache OpenOffice and I can't even download
the installer.

Below is the data requested from the troubleshooting page. I should mention
that the troubleshooting direct link is also SourceForge so that's not a
reasonable download alternative (same download site as original).

Looks like SourceForge is broken. Maybe they have no redundnancy or can't put
up a maintenance page. Thanks - Mike

Downloads work normally for me from Italy (maybe the outage only affects

Budapest and thereafter.

2014-12-07 Thread jan i
Hi

There was quite a number of AOO meetings in Budapest, with different
constellasions of people.

Of course no decisions were made, that needs to happen in here, but
expectations were set. Just to mention one, bring out a release fast, with
a few bug fixes and digital signing. Some of us was also asked if we would
give a hand under given circumstances.

From my work with infra earlier this year we know that digital signing is
not a matter of programming, but merely a matter of release work,

Maybe its just me, but it seems all of the above is forgotten, at least I
cannot see any mentions on this ML.

I would have loved to see some of the things come to life, and wanted to
help. However life must go. on, and just waiting for the sake if waiting
does not seem like a sensible thing to do.

My question is (the same as in budapest) do we want to get things moving
and who wants to make a difference ?

AOO is a great project, please lets not kill it by silence and lack of
activiyif YOU care time is right to help.

just my opinion.

Regarding the next release. Of course, most of us have no idea what the
discussion in Budapest actually entailed with respect to this, but the
latest discussion can be found from this link --

 http://markmail.org/message/aehavvvhiz6les6q

My take on the above is that a goal before the next release was to have a
complete buildbot infrastructure in place at Apache to spin binaries from
that rather than the previous process.

We also received an update on this list from Andrea on some of the
discussions with infra at ApacheConEU. See --

http://markmail.org/message/6ymi35tajswcfsps

With respect to CentOS 5, we need both a 32-bit and 64-bit on CentOS 5. Can
you tell us anything about that?

We do need volunteers to help with the CentOS 5 builbot setups at some
point once the VMs are established.

In summary, we have some tasks to do before springing into action on the
next release.

It does under certain conditions.

I was part of the infra discussions, which is why I promised to
(again) maintain the servers.

There are no request for a 32bit cent-os 5, only for a 64bit.

I am a bit sceptic, need is a big word, we also needed the mac buildbot,
we have it, but its still not operational (infra delivered it some month
ago).

The cent-os 5 64bit will most likely come in a couple of weeks. It will be
setup with a dummy AOO user, since nobody have currently asked for access.

We do need volunteers to help with the CentOS 5 builbot setups at some
point once the VMs are established.

I think the same can be said about the mac buildbot.

The cent-vm was actually spinning about 6months ago, but was taken down for
several reasons.

In summary, we have some tasks to do before springing into action on the
 next release.

We have waited for the better part of 2 years to get the buildbot system in
a better shape (see dates on jira tickets) so making that a requirement for
a release seems to be a perfect excuse to continue talking.

We could on the other hand, if we pulled together, bring out a windows
release in a couple of weeks, with digital signing, which would help a lot
of users.and show that our project can still achieve something.

This is of course only my opinion and possibly a very lonely one.

Reminder: one week left for submitting talks proposal for FOSDEM.
Deadline is Sunday 14 December. All details below and at

FOSDEM 15 will be held at the ULB Campus Solbosch on Saturday, January
31, and Sunday, February 1st, 2015.

Open document editors are coming again to FOSDEM with a shared devroom
which gives every project in this area a chance to present ODF related
developments and innovations. The devroom is jointly organized by Apache
OpenOffice and LibreOffice.

We invite submission of talks for the Open Document Editors devroom, to
be held on Saturday, January 31, from 10AM to 6PM.

Length of talks should be limited to 20 minutes, as we would like to
have questions after each presentation, and to fit as many presenters as
possible in the schedule. Exceptions must be explicitly requested and
justified.

Technical talks (code, extensions, localization, QA, tools and adoption
related cases) about open document editors or the ODF document format
are welcome.

Submissions must be done by the speakers using the Pentabarf system:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15

While filing your proposal, please provide the title of your talk, a
short abstract (one or two paragraphs), some information about yourself
(name, bio and photo, but please do remember that your profile might be
already stored at Pentabarf) and specify what topic (Apache OpenOffice,
LibreOffice, other ODF editors, ODF in general...) your talk is about.

You do not need to create a new account if you already have one. If the
password has been lost, you can easily recover it.

The deadline is Sunday, December 14, 2014. Accepted speakers will be
notified by December 28, 2014.

English Dictionaries auto-update

2014-12-07 Thread Marco A.G.Pinto

Hello!

The other day I was on IRC talking with JZA.

I believe he asked if we had the English dictionaries auto-updating.

Is there a way of making it automatic?

What happens is that, every time one clicks in the update link, it jumps
to the extension page.

Thanks!

Kind regards,
 Marco A.G.Pinto
