Then it makes sense to continue with the current approach in order to
have dev snapshot that are very close to release builds.

I am proposing this to avoid the various cases that arise, not just the 32-bit
on x64 Windows case. It would be great to look at how this wording works for
non-native English speakers and also how easily it is translated for
localization.

Any simpler way to say this?

I read through the text at the target URL: my thoughts are that it is
over-complex and (specifically) didn't mention the
problem of the bit-matching. Remember that our major User-base is of Windows

Good news! It really is inevitable that we need this.

I would really like to know at some point why we're so tethered to ver 5?

Well assuming tethys is avialable, putting ubuntu on it is 1-2hours work
(with ldap puppet etc), VMs can be prepared offline, the popular hypervisors
all have format conversion tools so thats not a problem. The hypervisor
could be whatever the maintainer knows best (e.g. kvm). Preparing a vm is
also 1-2hours.

Coming to doing: I can prepare a CentOS 5 VM (64 bit) during the
weekend, with the same disk layout as the current CentOS 6 VM and with
the same sshd configuration. I will need information on how the network
is supposed to be configured, since ideally I'd like to have it working
out of the box at Apache. Then others can go on and configure it, but
Ariel was already working on it before noticing we had the wrong version
of CentOS.

Of course, before that we should ensure that we still have tethys
available and that it already has a supported (by Infra, I mean) 64-bit
Linux system as the host (or that one is installed via the standard
Infra processes). Should this paragraph go to an Infra JIRA?

In the meaning of that presentation (2012), it was a web-based version
to be used with a browser, with an adaptive UI: see
https://blogs.apache.org/OOo/entry/apache_openoffice_track_at_apachecon
(which may be down when you read this due to the planned maintenance
announced yesterday: see
http://www.slideshare.net/pescetti/cloud-apache-openoffice-based-on-html5 for
the presentation, which also had an interesting demo). If you need a
higher-resolution version to be able to read the code more easily, I can
probably find it somewhere.

I have no news at all about this effort too, but maybe it is worth
investigating.

  Andrea.

Let’s create a wiki on this subject and then remind the lists of deadlines, etc.

Personally, I like topics that question as well as present; that don’t just
preach to attendant choirs but engage the skepticism of audiences and answer
the doubts, problems, and so on. Or, suggest strong solutions. By which I mean
those that can actually be implemented by regular people, as well as by

I don’t think it really matters whether it be CloudFoundry (which strives to
gather contribution and more from many) or Red Hat or Buzzword Foundry (which I
just made up).

More to the point: what would be meant by having “OpenOffice in the cloud”?
When I was at Sun/Oracle, yes, we did work on this. But what is intended?
Enterprise use? IBM’s Notes does this, albeit within a proprietary wrapper, I
believe. And rollApp, among others, does something almost desirable but more so
if accessed within an intranet, as usability of the service would depend on
proximity (speed) to the servers.

Furthermore, there were other open source efforts to provide useful OpenOffice
in there cloud, again prior to Sun’s sinking. These have pretty much vanished
or are recalled with rue…. or realization that something better is wanted. I
think Corinthia might be relevant here :-) (And to echo Jose, “Of course, I am
slightly biased.”)

but….

@ Jose RR: Red Hat is currently supporting LibreOffice development, isn’t it?
Or has that changed? I’ve not kept up to date.

Questions about code reviews and static analysis tools for TU Delft research

2014-12-17 Thread Radjino Bholanath
Hi,

I'm doing research on code reviews and static analysis tools at the SERG group
(http://swerl.tudelft.nl/bin/view/Main/WebHome) of the Delft University of
Technology. Currently, we want to give an overview of the usage of code review
and static analysis tools in open source projects. Therefore, I would be very
happy to know a little bit more about how code reviews are used in OpenOffice
and if (and maybe how) static analysis tools are used. I have a couple of
questions for anyone willing to answer:

1. Do all developers (contributors and core developers) have to submit a code
review for every change? I’m asking because many projects only review changes
made by contributors.
2. Which code review tools are used?
3. Are static analyzers used? If they are used:
a. Is passing the checks of the static analyzers necessary for a change to be
accepted?
b. Which static analyzers are used?

Thanks,
Radjino
