Re: CentOS build box.

2015-05-30 Thread Pedro Giffuni

Hello;

I started the discussion on dropping CentOS 5 and moving on
to CentOS 6. There was no comment against moving to the
newer version, which AFAICT is the last version to support
32 bits.

Assuming AOO builds on CentOS 6, is there any reason to insist
on CentOS 5?

Pedro.

There was a dissension. I did ask about the ramifications -- what
specifically IS the issue to moving to CetnOS 6 -- but got no reply.

FWIW, I think your proposal merits further discussion.

At this point, I'm not exactly sure what our options are.

Regrettably, as a volunteer on this mailing list, I cannot offer on-line
support - besides there are also time differences and the exigencies of real
life to be considered.

In the event that technical persons at a company are unable to (re)-install
OpenOffice the best bet is the nuclear option, although this is best undertaken
by experienced computer personell. For this, on the OpenOffice forum, we
advise using Revo Uninstaller at its most aggressive to remove all traces of
any previous installation, reboot Windows, then install from a fresh download
only from
www.openoffice.org/download
(you will be redirected to Sourceforge site and download will start
automatically in 5-10 seconds. Do not click on anything else)

Before undertaking any such un/re-install it is your responsibility to ensure
your data are safely backed up in some verified backup process.

I think it was already explained by Ariel and me at the time. But in
short, OpenOffice 4.x has CentOS 5.x (or the equivalent Red Hat 5.x) as
a baseline distribution: in a certain sense, we commit to keeping
sources buildable on CentOS 5 and to distributing binaries that run on
distributions as old as CentOS 5. In order to change our baseline
distribution we would normally need a compelling technical reason or a
major version change (say, OpenOffice 5.x).

Then for the buildbots we already use more modern distributions, but a
CentOS buildbot would best be setup with CentOS 5 for the reasons
explained above: a CentOS 5 buildbot would even allow us to build
releases directly on it. I'm not saying this is a prerequisite for
releasing 4.1.2, I'm simply explaining why the current situation makes
it much more useful to have a CentOS 5 buildbot than a CentOS 6 one.

Regards,
  Andrea.

English Dictionaries updated - 1-JUN-2015

2015-05-30 Thread Marco A.G.Pinto

Hello!

I have released a new version of the English dictionaries for OpenOffice:
- en_CA (Canadian) (updated: 2015-05-18)
- en_GB (British) (updated: 2015-06-01)*
- en_US (American) (updated: 2015-05-18)

* en_GB has 564 new words.

You canwait a few days until AOO triggers it or download it from the
Extension site:

http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/english-dictionaries-apache-openoffice

Also, the Mozilla en_GB:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary-2

And the Proofing Tool GUI project site:
http://marcoagpinto.cidadevirtual.pt/proofingtoolgui.html

In the second half of June I will try to enhance Proofing Tool GUI (the
Hunspell tool I use for editing the dictionaries) in order for it to
accept also:

1) FLAG long 2) FLAG num
At first I thought it would be very hard but, during sleep, I came up
with an easy idea (just waiting for my vacation).
Still, it won't support recursivity since it is very complex... but I am
always coming up with new ideas... and maybe I will figure out something
then.

Also, I only added 564 new words this time because my PhD supervisor has
been over me saying More studying and less hobbies :-(

Thanks!

Kind regards from your friend,
   Marco A.G.Pinto

On requesting CD

2015-05-30 Thread Amy Thomas
Hope that these will be offered again, though I've always just downloaded
until the latest version. I cannot get it to work after downloading. I was
hoping maybe requesting a CD would help, then saw that option was no longer
offered :( I keep getting a message that open office writer is searching
for swriter.exe, none of the open office suite applications will open, with
slight variations on the .exe file they are missing. I have tried 3 times
now.
