Volunteering for Apache Open Source

2015-11-06 Thread Dominic Aldridge
Hello!

My name is Dominic Aldridge. I recently graduated with a Certificate in
Professional Technical Writing from the University of Washington, and I
also have a Bachelor's degree in Journalism.

I live near Seattle and I am currently undergoing a career change. I am
moving into the technical writing field and am looking for any sort of
opportunities- specifically looking to volunteer in order to gain
experience in the industry.

I would like to introduce myself to the members of this organization and
hope that I will be able to assist with providing procedural documentation.

Thanks,

Dominic Aldridge.

RE: Reporting broken download link

2015-11-06 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
I used that link just now and it worked.

Früher habe ich den Link gerade jetzt und es funktionierte.

I think browser cache matters not.

Ich denke, Browser-Cache Sachen nicht.

Ok. Yeah, I remarked about the date in the attachments, so I will
change to Oct 28. I will recommit 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 using the script
version.

I don't plan on reattaching the corrections to the issue. I will
just do these fixes and commit on Sunday.

1) 4.1.1 to 4.1.2

I tried running the scripts and indeed everything works as expected.
They even found a typo: I compared the output of

$ ./generate-update-feed.sh 4.1.1 4.1.2
to the current feed at
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/openoffice/updates-site/trunk/aoo411/check.Update?view=co&content-type=text%2Fplain

and it found that line 1870 (and 3 more ones) has a typo:

src="http://www.openoffice.org/pt/download?utm_source=AOO4_1_1_lt&utm_medium=Client&utm_campaign=Upgrade"/>

The utm_source should be "AOO4_1_1_pt" not "AOO4_1_1_lt".

The script-generated version fixes it.

2) 4.x.y to 4.1.2

I compared, in pairs, the current attachments to
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126612
and I confirm that in all 3 cases the script-generated version has the
correct links, and fixes small issues with the manually generated (with
old data) version.

3) One remaining issue

On line 4 of the generated feeds, the "updated" date is invalid.

Manually entered value:
 Wed, Oct 28, 2015 19:56:54 UTC

Script-generated value (on your system):
Thu Nov 5 21:35:43 UTC 2015 UTC

This should be fixed manually (by copying the "manual" value to it), or
line 187 of the script at

http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/openoffice/devtools/genUpdateFeed/generate-update-feed.sh?diff_format=h&view=markup
should get the correct parameters for date.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Welcome Seon the fastest and best way to develop a feature for AOO is to
create an extension. This is the documentation for it:
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Extensions_development

You can create them in Basic, Python, Java, and other languages as well.
Feel free to go through the documentation and try to setup your
environment.

You will also be able to find snippets and mini-projects on the forum:

RE: Possible Mac problem 4.1.2

2015-11-06 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
The same symptoms Juergen reports are also attributable to the absence of a
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) that AOO can use. That is, one can create a new
empty database .odb, but cannot open it, etc.

That there are crashes without any reports of exceptions is peculiar though.
It looks like more details are required.

Can the user roll back to 4.1.1 and verify whether the problem exists there
also? That might narrow the situation down to something that changed in 4.1.2
and/or the Mac.

Hola dolores.

I am a long time contributor to OpenOffice community. I am glad you already
took steps to get in the QA project. We have just released our latest
version of AOO.

At the moment most of the QA job is the ongoing validation of bugs on our
bugzilla database, once they are approved, sending them to the developers
or testing the patches yourself should be the next stage of QA testing.

Please remember we have a QA mailing list for related jobs of those sort at
q...@openoffice.apache.org

Buena suerte.

New Volunteer - Dolores Zurdo

2015-11-06 Thread Dolores Zurdo Consuegra
Hello everybody.

I'm Dolores Zurdo, and i joined this morning to the community. I'm Spanish,
but now I live in Austria. I'm Industrial Engineer.

I've been working in Quality Assurance but not yet for testing... so my
experience in this field is null, but only for the moment :-). Currently
I'm also improving my programming knowledge (for the moment with Python),
my English and my German...

I'm a positive and proactive person. In the Quality sector i learnt, that
nothing is perfect, so there is always a possibility to improve it... so
let's do it :) I am very motivated to collaborate, learn and then continue
collaborating more efficiently :) . I have been reading information and
blogs... but it is time for me to start with real problems :). So now I
only have one question: what can I do to help you? :). For the moment I'm
reading "INTRODUCTION TO QA" form your website.

Thanks,
Dolores Zurdo.

I can confirm that there is a problem, an existing DB file can be opened
but the existing table can't be viewed or edited. But it is the same
problem when you create a new DB. The table wizard can be sued to create
a table but then the same problem. Creating table in design view doesn't
work. Seems to be a general problem here.

No further tests ... I normally don't use the db in OpenOffice
