Open any PDF in OO Draw and it is clear they can be edited to a very high
degree.
So the above statement is very correct.

As far as the various import extensions, they are sometimes far less successful
at reading PDFs. As an aside, if whatever reads pdf for draw could be simply
implemented in OOWriter this would be a nice feature. But as it stands PDF
compatability with the suite is "okay enough".

PDF is designed for printing and page composition. It can be edited but that is
not what it was designed for.
That is why ODF is adopted as "an open document file format for saving and
exchanging office documents that may be edited."

Again: you can open and modify PDF files in Apache OpenOffice. Just install the
PDF Import extension.

It is not irrelevant. My proposal (and the original sentence) mentioned support
for "major competitors" not support for every file format under the sun.

In any case I agree that WordPerfect should be supported (as well as Apple's
iWork formats) but unless someone is willing to pay a developer to add those
flters I don't see it happening

Yes, PDF can be edited.

These “Why OpenOffice” sections were written in Sun and Oracle times and simply
ported. Competitors is not the correct term for other myriad document formats.
We don’t have a large company funding our efforts to “compete”.

A more major effort to rewrite this part of the website makes sense to me. I
don’t how much time I have for that effort, but …

Yes PDF is an editable format, you just need to have a PDF editor. The
fact is that user@ is full of people complaining that AOO will not open
there PDF files.

Whether they are a "major competitor" or not is irrelevant, there 2020
office suite is a competitor and we do not open any of there file
formats for word processing, spreadsheet, or presentation.

Thank you for this piece of information. This certainly puts a nail on the all

Thank you all for the feedback!

I think Larry has proved my point on why we need the softer wording. I have
now said as much as is useful for me to say on this thread.
