ApacheCon: Getting the word out internally
Dear Apache Enthusiast,

As you are no doubt already aware, we will be holding ApacheCon in
Seville, Spain, the week of November 14th, 2016. The call for papers
(CFP) for this event is now open, and will remain open until
September 9th.

The event is divided into two parts, each with its own CFP. The first
part of the event, called Apache Big Data, focuses on Big Data
projects and related technologies.

Website: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apache-big-data-europe
CFP:
http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apache-big-data-europe/program/cfp

The second part, called ApacheCon Europe, focuses on the Apache
Software Foundation as a whole, covering all projects, community
issues, governance, and so on.

Website: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-europe
CFP: http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-europe/program/cfp

ApacheCon is the official conference of the Apache Software
Foundation, and is the best place to meet members of your project and
other ASF projects, and strengthen your project's community.

If your organization is interested in sponsoring ApacheCon, contact Rich Bowen
at e...@apache.org  ApacheCon is a great place to find the brightest
developers in the world, and experts on a huge range of technologies.

I hope to see you in Seville!

Sir
Would like to ask a question relating to a problem faced by me in Open Office.

Whilst working in a text document in Open Office, power trip forced the
computerto shut down.
On opening the document in which I was working the following message pops up
Document Locked for Editing

Question : How to remove this feature - Locked for Editing?

Well hello, my darling AOO folks!! :)
Dennis:  YAY I am SOO happy to hear that I didn't scare you away last year,
and that you will be joining me again this year!! So, so happy!!
Kay:  I am officially out of AOO pins, as I gave the remainder to Andrea and
Jan in Budapest last year.  By all means, you can have them shipped to me at:
79 Bickel RoadWashington, NJ 07882908.343.3214
HOWEVER.I'm in the process of buying a home and the tentative closing date
is June 30th.  So, to be on the safe side, I would suggest that you place the
order in time to ensure it arrives to the address above no later than June 28th.
Please let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns!
Have a great day!

Kay,

If it works for Melissa, it would be better to ship new OpenOffice pins to her,
mainly because I will be traveling by bus.  Also, she is likely to be there
before I am.

I don't think we ran out last year.  Melissa would know.

Um, 1.5 diameter, as asked.  Silly keyboard.  Bad keyboard.  Bad.

OK, fine. (those dang keyboards! ;) ) Now 2 more questions --

* how many do we need? Last time, the order was for 200.
* where to ship? Last time, I shipped to Melissa's address. Would it be
better to ship to you instead?

I am offering to do booth duty again this year.  I had a great time and
 am
 happy to do it again.

 I have one request.

Can we have bigger Apache OpenOffice buttons?  The little ones are nice,
but I find they are difficult to put one.

The design need not change, but it would be good to have bigger ones.
 Is
 that easy to accomplish?

It is a good idea and we have the budget to make it happen. All we need is
 someone doing it.

Regarding the roll-up banner:  No, I do not have room at the booth for that.
I've even eliminated sending the ASF vertical rollup due to lack of space.

I'll have room for leaflets since they're folded like this:  - A4 leaflets, in
color (suitable b/w too) 11-flyers

Thanks Dennis, indeed.

What was on these popular pins that have been used n the past? Just the
gull logo or ??? It looks like we could get some 1 circle pins very
inexpensively if this is the case.

You can see one of those pins at https://flic.kr/p/dsxSbi bottom right. So yes,
they had just the orb. We also had pins with a different, tailor-cut, shape and
the full logo.

ah! OK -- this is basically what I was thinking.

I would be happy to cover the cost of  these and have them shipped
to ASF headquarters in time for transport to OSCON.

Production costs are not a problem, since the project can allocate budget as
discussed several times here.

They wouldn't say anything with just our current flat logo, but
they would be good I think.

Stickers are an option too, if you prefer... or we can make both! The only
difficult thing is that we need someone to take care of taking specifications
and adapting our logo to it. And also to actually supervise production and
shipping.

Regards,
  Andrea.

OK -- I thought since we have an svg of the logo, this would be pretty
easy...I'll look at some order sites again.  Hopefully, this will be fairly
easy to deal with.

I'm forwarding the request below to the OpenOffice dev list. It would be
nice to have a slides template for the coming ApacheCon in Denver
(deadline for template: February 14).

For ApacheCon 2012 and 2013 templates were created by volunteeers on

Any volunteers?
