Re: [RELEASE]: propose AOO 4.1.0 RC

2014-04-04 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

First of all I would like to say that I'm *really* happy that update
patches have arrived for the Windows OS. I was almost sure that I would
never see this in a StarOffice derivative. Kudos to the AOO developers!

I have installed scenario 2 (- Upgrade install 4.1.0 over an existing
4.0.1) with en_US and PT under Windows XP Pro x86 SP3 en_US.

Overall everything seems to be working perfectly but there is a small
quirk: the Startup Group for 4.0.1 is not removed so you end up with two
startup groups with different names pointing at the same folder.

In addition the OpenOffice logo shows on the 4.0.1 group but not on the
4.1.0.

I know these are small cosmetic problems but could be confusing for users.

I can create a bugzilla report if necessary.

Regards,
Pedro

Re: [RELEASE]: propose AOO 4.1.0 RC

2014-04-05 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Yuzhen, all

Sorry for the delay but I was doing some more testing.

Here are my findings:

There is no problem updating from 4.0.0 to 4.0.1
The Startup Group, the desktop icon and the Add/Remove list are updated as
expected.

The problem only occurs when updating from 4.0.0 to 4.1.0 and from 4.0.1 to
4.1.0
There are 3 items that fail: there are 2 startup groups, there are 2
desktop icons and there are two entries in the Add/Remove Programs list.

Updating from 4.0.1 to 4.1.0 using the MS patch is a little better: there
is only one entry in the Add/Remove Programs list after updating (the 4.1.0
as expected). However there are still 2 desktop icons and 2 startup groups
(in this case the patch fails to set the OO icon as the group icon while
the full installer succeeds)

How do you want me to report all these in bugzilla? Or can you (or someone
in QA) add it to bugzilla and add me to CC so that I confirm it (and add
screenshots if needed)?

Regards,
Pedro

 1. If the former version is 3.x, there will be a check box in Installation
Wizard providing the option to keep or remove the former version
 - If select Remove all older product versions, then 3.x will be removed
and 4.x will be installed with 1 startup group, 1 desktop icon and 1 entry
in the Add/Remove Programs list. This artifact is for 4.x
 - If de-select Remove all older product versions, then 4.x will be
installed with keeping 3.x, there will be 2 startup groups, 2 desktop icons
and 2 entries in the Add/Remove Programs list. These artifacts are one
suite for 3.x and the other suite for 4.x

 2. If the former version is also 4.x, but older than current installing
one(e.g. install 4.1.0 over 4.0.0), then the older one will be removed and
the newer one will be installed with 1 startup group, 1 desktop icon and 1
entry in the Add/Remove Programs list. This artifact is for the newer one.

I think above behaviors are acceptable, I propose to update the

It was just a simple rename via SFTP... ;-)

Yes, I realize that for this build you simply did a rename (the build
date didn't change).
But my request was for the build number to be automatically appended to
the the filename during the build process for all your future test
builds (or automatically renamed if that is easier)

So my request was to make that a persistent feature in future builds.

Done. All is working perfectly with build 1800873 under Windows 10 Home x64.

Installing English language pack and switching to English UI, check.

I didn't even know this was supported until recently... ;-)

Re: Updated dictionaries (Portuguese/English)

2017-06-30 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi Mattias, all

Meanwhile the Portuguese and the English dictionaries were updated. I
committed to trunk.

But for the 4.1.4 branch should we reopen
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127341 ?

Since there were no changes in the extension code I believe that the
latest version of the dictionary should always be included. Otherwise
most people doing a fresh install of AOO (English is by far the most
downloaded version) will immediately have to update an extension. This
is obviously not a problem but seems unnecessary (an extra download and
an extra install)

Just my 2 cents.

Re: i have tested

2017-07-03 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi all

The issue can be tested with any version of Windows irregardless of
bitness of the OS. The issue is with the version of msvcr100.dll. The
64bit version of the dll was inadvertently bundled with the 4.1.3
release thereby not allowing AOO version 4.1.3 to recognize a valid 32
bit JRE. To test if it has indeed been fixed you can install a test
version of 4.1.4 on any windows machine and see if it finds your JRE. If
it does not than the root cause of the issue is not fixed. If it does
then navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\program and check
the properties of msvcr100.dll and verify that it is version
9.00.30729.01 or higher. If it is not than the issue is not completely fixed

Tested with
AOO414m1(Build:9784) - Rev. 1793492

JRE 1.8.0_131 (32 bit) is identified

The Java problem is confirmed fixed in the new build tested under

I will install under Windows XP when I have a chance.

Re: I want to test AOO 4.1.4 again

2017-07-30 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi again

Is there any noticeable change from the user perspective? Should
testers replace the previous build with this one?

No, it is the same revision. But users shouldn't use it! ;-)

Ok. I am a user (meaning I'm not a developer) so my concern is the user
perspective.

Testers are free to replace the version to see if the new components
have any impact on the installation/program.
(Cygwin and NSIS installer were updated)

Ok. Will do.

Under Windows 7 x64 the equation does display correctly but there is no way to
save the document without crashing.

AOO crashes when inserting the equation in Writer but also when opening a
Math/Formula file and simply by typing an equation in Math. See detailed
instructions in

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126180

It is not a 4.1.4 specific bug. This is a regression in 4.1.x (at least since
4.1.2).
It worked correctly in 4.0.1

This is not a fix for a small bug. It is a regression introduced since 4.1.3

I believe all regressions from 4.1.3 should be fixed before release. After all
4.1.4 is a bug fix release, so regressions are not expected (or acceptable IMO)

Hi Peter, all

I guess he is not on the list.
Is it wise to send him to BZ where we might reject just because we can not
reproduce the issue?

Actually i have been able to replicate and describe problems related to
Farsi in LO's bugtracker and some were eventually fixed.
As a triager I have never closed an issue just because I can not
reproduce it.

I think it is better to route people to forums.
We need to reach out to forums and user list for feedback. I think we can much
better sort things up with our experienced users then with honourable people
who could classify programming as magic. ( no offense)

Please do send the OP an email with links to forums and user lists.

As a long time bug reporter and checker for both projects I don't agree
that it is a better option or that people are more experienced or humane
in forums than in bug trackers. There are all kinds of people with all
levels of experience and sensibility on both platforms.

Is the ASF process really so strict that it will force to release 4.1.4 with a
known regression? That would be a shot in the foot for AOO. And remember, this
is a public mailing list, so the news are already out.

4.1.4 RC4 was never released to the the public. It is Staged in Sourceforge. Is
it not possible to go back one step and add the patch to RC5 and still release
4.1.4?

Re: [VOTE][RESULT] Release Apache OpenOffice 4.1.4-RC5 as GA

2017-10-18 Thread Pedro Lino

Maybe we need to ask for review of
http://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html#release-approval at
the same time as looking at the voting process documentation. If taken
literally, a PMC member who cannot do builds from source can't cast a
+1 vote, because their vote is binding and a binding +1 requires a
build from source.

Probably the ASF wants to guarantee that at least 3 PMC members are
developers (or development inclined)?

What I would like is to change it to require at least three PMC
members to declare they have done a build from source and tested the
result. Other PMC members could vote based on binary testing and
signature checking without building.

Actually for a multi-platform software such as AOO it should be required
that building from source and testing the result was carried out by at
least one voter (PMC member or not) for each of the platforms/bit depths.
If all three PMC members have success in building on e.g. Linux x64 it
does not provide any guarantee for the other platforms (as proven by
4.1.4 RC4)

ASF does a hell of a job to discourage participation! I particularly
like this gem "the basic rule is that only PMC members have binding

Re: [VOTE][RESULT] Release Apache OpenOffice 4.1.4-RC5 as GA

2017-10-18 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi Dave, all

(1) PMC members have a higher bar for their vote. I did not vote at all because
I did not build from source etc.

I agree that it is good that some users replicate the building procedure
and confirm that it works.

Replicability is a good measure of transparency and quality.
In any case I couldn't find that particular requirement for a PMC member
in the voting page (https://www.apache.org/foundation/voting.html).
Maybe that is being too strict?

(2) Would you name projects where you have felt discouraged? Have you felt
discouraged here in past years?

This is the only Apache project I collaborate with (I have been
collaborating with several other FOSS projects for a long time).
Actually just reading the ASF rules discouraged me to become a committer
(I was invited in the past) and still does.

We know everyone helping is needed. It was great to have a long
standing member of the user community like Larry vote to alert us to a
problem with macOS!

Agreed. That is why the "*and all others are either discouraged from
voting (to keep the noise down)*" is particularly unnecessary (if not
offensive).

Re: [VOTE][RESULT] Release Apache OpenOffice 4.1.4-RC5 as GA

2017-10-18 Thread Pedro Lino

So the practice is much saner than the theory and nobody discarded
Larry's -1 saying it was not coming from a PMC member. Any correctly
justified -1 will of course be treated in the same way, regardless of
who casts it.

I'm aware of that. That is exactly why I applauded AOO's PMC members
attitude

just reading the ASF rules discouraged me to become a committer
(I was invited in the past) and still does

I did a presentation at ApacheCon a few years ago, called "Bending the
Rules: Community over Code over Policy", explaining that policy should
never come first and presenting some examples where we had to, say,
"interpret" a dumb policy to do the right thing that would not hamper
the community. It's still buried at
https://community.apache.org/speakers/slides.html and that is still my
point of view. But also something that concretely happens in OpenOffice.

Actually I had already read your presentation. As I mentioned in a
previous email I believe the community currently working on AOO is
healthier and wiser than in the Oracle period. I'm just not sure about
the "Apache way"... Seems like a very strict organization which is does
not have the right mindset for a software that should IMO be for the
benefit of the users (not for developers to have fun ;) )

Agreed. That is why the "*and all others are either discouraged from
voting (to keep the noise down)*" is particularly unnecessary (if not
offensive).

I trust Dave will get that unfortunate wording amended in
https://www.apache.org/foundation/voting.html - but again, that is
about technical voting (on a code commit) and not release voting. In
this sense, the sentence is a bit easier to justify (i.e., if you are
expressing an opinion on a controversial code commit you are supposed
to have familiarity with the code).

That was just an example... Actually the wording in the Release voting
is even worse. What is all the SHOUTING for?
I'm glad all these rules are there to protect all PMC members with an
"insurance and a legal shield"!
And I'm glad you guys volunteered to be a PMC because this is the
opposite of having fun ;)

Pedro

As a user/tester/part-timeQA I agree to all points.

But, please include Language packs in Developer Snapshots. Running a build with
an un-matching language pack causes very serious usability problems (this is
IMO the only advantage of including all languages in a single installer).

Creating a blank AOO-Dev profile is a two edged sword: you get a clean start
(and avoid trashing the user's work profile) but it isn't a realistic usage
(and therefore testing will not find those day to day problems that resulted in
the need to go to RC5)
Maybe a middle term would be to create a separate Dev profile that is a copy of
the user's profile (including all extensions)?

That is the ideal situation. But requires more communication (the QA mailing
list is unused for months) and especially more man power (on all platforms!).
The only way to get more users is to add needed/missing features and get
visibility...

It's a bit difficult since neither the OP nor joesch describe the steps to test
DDE in https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127601

However if the idea is to load dde-test.odt and then Update the values so that
the values in odt reflect a change in the ods, then I do not get a crash but
the values are never updated under Windows 10 (see attached image).

In fact these values are not updated regardless of the AOO or LO version used
under Windows 10...

That would make a little more sense...

It should be enough to change the Snap buildbots that are currently still
building 4.1.2 snapshots on a daily basis (or so I assume since it is
impossible for Apache to details of the files but the page is built every day)

Exactly my point.

If the idea is to test changes in the build environment with a known good
source, it should be enough to run when/if the build environment is modified...

If this can not be controlled/detected then maybe create a env_test folder (and
create the respective src, win, linux32 and linux64 folders inside it)

Maybe rename the folders from Snapshot to Development? Both are
daily/nightly/weekly builds except one is from Trunk and the other should be
from the Development branch. E.g. win_trunk and win_dev ?

Re: Spell checking in French

2017-12-18 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi Andrea, all

P.S. I can volunteer to kick off a similar list of the available AOO
languages (and links to the extensions) if the devs agree that it makes
sense to link to such a page.

At least a collection of links to Dictionaries that are not marked as
such would be useful, thanks!

Maybe my message was not so clear. My offer was to kick a user friendly
landing page like the one from Mozilla.

Checking the tags is probably easier for someone with DB access. In fact
there is a HUGE discrepancy in the results. If you look for the tag
"dictionary" it reports 99 entries. However if you type dictionary in
the Search box you will see the number 136 (which I assume are the
matching entries) but clicking on the Search button will return 159
results...

Re: Spell checking in French

2017-12-17 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi Marcus, all

Actually the fastest way to add a dictionary should be clicking on
Tools, Languages, More Dictionaries Online

More Dictionaries Online should point to a user friendly page like
Mozilla's

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/language-tools/

The problem is that the menu item launches a weblink to
https://extensions.openoffice.org/dictionaries?lang=en-US (where
lang=value depends on the AOO interface language) which is then
translated to
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/search?f%5B0%5D=field_project_tags%3A157
(the same as clicking on the Dictionaries button on the Extensions website)

However searching for the words spelling or dictionaries returns many
more results than the Dictionaries button (for instance none of the
Portuguese tools show up when clicking Dictionaries)
This means that the search key is not working as expected (maybe not all
extensions have the needed tag?)

Should I open a Bugzilla issue about this?

Regards,
Pedro

P.S. I can volunteer to kick off a similar list of the available AOO
languages (and links to the extensions) if the devs agree that it makes
sense to link to such a page.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Availability of AOO-4.1.5 RC1

2017-12-13 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi all

Available for immediate testing are the source tarballs/zips and
community builds of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.5-RC1.

As noted, these are Release Candidates and are not official,
GA releases, although based on testing, the could become so.
So PLEASE test these out!

Installed and tested 4.1.5 pt + en_US language pack on Win10 Home x64
from scratch - works as expected
Updated 4.1.4 pt + en_US language pack to 4.1.5 pt + en_US language pack
on Win10 Home x64 from scratch - works as expected

On a side note: it would be great for this project if small changes like
this one could be provided as an update (like Mozilla Firefox) instead
of a full installer download. This would be the most meaningful new
feature for those who have slow and/or expensive internet access
(probably those who would benefit more from using AOO)

Any chance that a bounty can be offered to add such a feature?

Pedro

Wouldn't it be possible for the Build number to make some sense?

It would be much easier if build number was related to the actual version? How
about Build 41510 for 4.1.5 RC1, 41520 for RC2, etc? To make sure the build is
greater than 9800 I added a 5th digit that could even be used for something
else...

This applies also to other version numbers in files

One of the major criticisms to AOO is that it took too long to fix some

Yes, development is slow. Yes, it would be great if there were more developers.
And yet AOO does not move forward when regressions are found. From my
perspective that is important. But most importantly, I'm glad that there isn't
only one office suite that supports ODF. Diversity is good ;)

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Starting the 4.2.0 localization

2017-12-29 Thread Pedro Lino

Hi Andrea, all

- The problem (not a problem actually; just the need to translate some
hundreds strings again) I had empirically found for Italian indeed
affects all languages. If you download a non-English build from
https://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/install/linux64/ or
https://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/install/win/ create a new
Impress document and right-click on the slide you will see the context
menu in English. Example for German:
https://s13.postimg.org/4acjbnr3b/screen.png

Problem confirmed with Portuguese build (AOO420m1(Build:9800)  - Rev.
1819451 from BuildBot but also with Matthias' latest build
AOO420m1(Build:9800)  -  Rev. 1819072) under Windows

Next tests (for me or for anyone else who wants to try) would be:
1. Run the same process (2 and 3) on AOO415 and see if the match is
perfect there (no warnings)
2. Build both AOO415 and trunk with the new SDF file and see if
translations from Pootle are picked up properly.

Apparently AOO 420 is 100% translated to Portuguese on Pootle so it
might be a good test Language.
If you can do the build process I would gladly volunteer to check any
binaries for untranslated menus/interfaces  (after New Year obviously ;) ).

Pedro

Re: 4.2.0 minor errors

2018-02-11 Thread Pedro Lino
I'm not sure if this is related but the last version that updates correctly
from 4.1.5 is r1816311 from Jim's archive

All newer versions return

dpkg: error processing archive openoffice-core01_4.2.0-1_amd64.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite '/opt/openoffice4/program/gconfbe1.uno.so', which is also
in package openoffice-gnome-integration 4.1.5-1

Errors were encountered while processing:
openoffice-core01_4.2.0-1_amd64.deb

Hope this helps.

That would be a great evolution for AOO (LO has finally added that feature in
version 6). In fact saving people from downloading a full installer would be
useful on all OSes...

Another relevant change under Windows would be to get rid of the unpacking step
that leaves an installation folder on the desktop (or manage to get the
installer to delete the installation folder as the last step)

I read this version would include it but didn't confirm (I have switched to
OpenOffice mostly) But it will eventually be added in 6.x

I believe partial updates are a major benefit for all users, especially those
who have limited/expensive access to the Internet. Providing fixes/updates at a
low cost is a critical contribution for breaking down the digital divide.

In addition automatic partial updates are better for inexperienced users since
they only require a one time full install (usually performed by a friend/family
who is more computer savvy)

Re: download of AOO

2018-02-18 Thread Pedro Lino
Maybe that is a UCBrowser problem or a temporary slow access to Sourceforge
(the link in your report works perfectly at my end)

In any case you can always download directly from Apache's server

http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.5/binaries/ru/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.5_Win_x86_install_ru.exe

Hope this helps.

Correct sentence about OpenOffice

2018-08-09 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

The startcenter.desktop file says "The office productivity suite compatible to
the open and standardized ODF document format. Supported by Apache OpenOffice."

Shouldn't this be "The office productivity suite compatible *with* the open and
standardized ODF document format. Supported by the *Apache Software
Foundation*." or "Supported by the *OpenOffice community*" (as mentioned in the
About dialog)?

I can do the changes, just need an agreement on who supoorts OpenOffice: the
ASF or the OpenOffice community? Or both?

Thanks!

Pedro

I will then switch "compatible to" to "compatible with"

and "Supported by the Apache OpenOffice" to "Supported by the Apache Software

(with a lowercase "the" since it is the ASF, not the TASF :) )

if there is no opposing feedback

Isn't it better to edit the .desktop file and just upload the changes to SVN?

There is no change in the text. It was a syntax error in the English version
(not a change of meaning of the sentence).

There is no need to ask people from 41 languages to replace "Apache OpenOffice"
by "Apache Software Foundation"

There is no translation involved

Attached are a slightly improved version of pb_OpenOffice and a version 2 using
the "black with stars" ring used in all the examples at

Are you sure the Star version is the most recent? I just made it for fun...
According to this page

the grey-with-dots is the most recent (that is why I offered the Blank Template

The Apache feather is not part of the AOO logo so there is no requirement to
include it

as you can see from the jpg logos of many of the Apache projects

Actually on first login the session opens directly on the change password page.

I have done that and started editing. Thanks!

On a separate note: the link in the "Account creation for Apache OpenOffice

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page

where the ending "greater than" character is included in the link which could
be confusing to some users since it lands on a "Bad title" page

Hope that is easy to fix!

Proposal for adoption of corrected Apache OpenOffice logo file

2018-08-30 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

I don't know what is the appropriate procedure but would like to request a vote
for the adoption of a corrected Apache OpenOffice logo vector file.

Most of you are aware that the current logo was created by Chris Rottensteiner .

Unfortunately all of the logos in vector format archived in the Apache
OpenOffice (or at least all that I could find) left by ChrisR
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/branding/AOO4/ ) have the same
problem: the TM part is a text object.

This means that editing or viewing the SVG only looks as the author expected
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/branding/AOO4/Apache_OpenOffice_Logo_ChrisR_selected_2013-06_with_4.pdf)
it if the user's computer has font Source Sans Pro Light installed.

An easy way to see this is to click on the AOO logo at

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Apache_OpenOffice_logo_and_wordmark_(2014).svg

After clicking on the expected logo as PNG you will open the actual SVG which
will be showing a wrong TM

Because of this small defect, there is no perfect SVG that can be used as
Apache OpenOffice's official logo, and that is the reason why the current
official logo available to Apache is a PDF

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/comdev/project-logos/originals/

Luckily user Matthias Seidel has fixed this by converting the TM part to paths
(as ChrisR did for the rest of the text)

This does NOT change the artwork in any way. It just guarantees that the vector
logo looks the same under any OS regardless of the fonts installed.

TL:DR

Therefore I would like to propose a vote to approve file
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/branding/AOO4/Apache_OpenOffice_Logo_unofficial_mseidel_fixed_TM.svg

as the Apache OpenOffice official vector logo file

Best regards,

Pedro

Thank you for the feedback Rory!
That confirms that it's not a Firefox limitation and when Distro is not
specified it will default to RPM.
Does that make sense?
In any case it's probably safe to say that the majority of desktop Linux users
are running Ubuntu or a flavor/derivative (and those that aren't know which
package to get!)

There is no ESR version on the Ubuntu repos. That explains it (only Ubuntu
files, report the Distro...)

So this means that the correct Distro information needs to be extracted from
somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Would it be absurd to have a drop list for the user to select the distro? (with
Ubuntu offered if automatically detected?)

This is the mailing list for the Apache OpenOffice developers.

Andropen Office is based on Apache OpenOffice but "AndrOpen Office is not
affiliated with the Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice project." as mentioned by
the author Akikazu Yoshikawa

You need to check the correct contact on the Google Play page or on the Android

Lazy consensus on adoption of corrected Apache OpenOffice logo file

Thanks!

As suggested, I'm asking for Lazy Consensus on the adoption of file
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/branding/AOO4/Apache_OpenOffice_Logo_unofficial_mseidel_fixed_TM.svg
as the official vector file for the Apache OpenOffice logo (see explanation
below).
If after 72 hours there are no objections, the file will be renamed
appropriately and used as the official vector file.

I would prefer not to modify the file at this point. In any case this email and
explanation are public.

According to the OpenOffice.org page on Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org#OpenOffice.org_3

"On 13 October 2008, version 3.0 was released". That was almost 10 years ago...

So I would say that it makes sense to update the Windows builds to the 3.x
icons (since there are no 4.x icons) so that the icons are the same on all
platforms (Linux and Mac already use these icons possibly since version 3.0)

Just my 2 cents ;)

The Firefox version that is included in Ubuntu is the current branch of Firefox
(61.0) slightly modified by Ubuntu (that is why it has the additional Ubuntu
info).
The version I'm using (and is included in Debian) is the ESR a more
conservative branch that is available from Mozilla
(https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/)
If you install the standard Firefox from Mozilla
(https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/download/thanks/) I assume it will no
longer report Ubuntu...

Curiously, the previous link offers me the right DEBS so we (AOO) we need to
find out how Mozilla does it... Anyone with an RPM based distro to test this?

According to this page
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html

Java 9 is already dead for Public use (in fact earlier than Java 8!) and even
Java 10 will be only last until September when Java 11 LTS is launched...

So actually keeping Java 8 seems like a good option :)

I don't think so. Maybe there is a good reason why another office suite moved

Fact: Windows users (the vast majority of AOO users) already have or are more
familiar with Oracle Java

Fact: under the Windows OS the OpenJDK is 64bit only but AOO is 32bit only

Bad news regarding future Java use?

2018-04-20 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

I just updated Java 8 and got a notification saying

"You have successfully installed Java.
Important Information about Oracle Java SE Roadmap:
Changes are coming which will impact your access to future releases of
Java SE from Oracle. Corporate users will be impacted as soon as
January 2019. For additional guidance please follow the link below
More information on roadmap"

https://www.java.com/en/download/release_notice.jsp

If I understand the notice correctly this will not be a problem for personal
use at home but all OpenOffice features requiring Java can not be used within a
company unless the company buys a Java license...

I hope I misunderstood the message :(

Build 1828108 Linux x86-64 installed on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS without any warnings

I just get an entry on the taskbar (I'm running Gnome) with "Starting

Can it be installed on ReactOS? Has anyone verified this? I was never able to
boot a Live ReactOS build of any version even on PCs that were running Windows
XP. It will not boot either on any newer (Win7 or Win10) certified machines...

If somebody has had any different results with ReactOS and managed to install

The nsis installer extracts and runs the MSVC runtime libraries installer
before running the AOO installer. Since AOO is compiled with MSVC it requires
these libraries are installed first. I don't know how TDF got rid of that step
but possibly they are including the MSVC libraries needed in the program folder?

Maybe AOO can do the same and skip the nsis installer?
