I think the manual registration for new wiki users is not good.

We have created 12 new user accounts since 24 November. These users
don't make any edit on the wiki. Maybe they can't edit the wiki pages or
they can't login or can't change a temporary password? I don't know.

One new user wrote me: "now I can't edit wiki with my new account".

@Helen:

This has to do with the UTF8 conversion, I understood from the previous

(in

the

I can do the UTF8 conversion, pn text and pages in the live system, but

Hi, Jan, Helen,

*UTF8*: It seems we have some scattered conversion problems in this area.
The big question is, how many? The "Unused files" special page is showing
strange entries for the first few items, too; the names look like what
I'd
expect from double conversion.

@Helen: can you give us a better idea of how big the problem is? Cyrillic
is "Greek to me" (="unknown"), too. I am assuming that this would be
important, for going back or going forward.

Helen told me off list, that we should go ahead and fix iit in the live

version, but your comments make me a bit nervous, so yes I also would like
a "damage estimate". I have not run the UTF8 conversion script we got, so
that might solve the whole problem.

I see in a later note that you are doing this. Good; I think we need it.

*Editor*: Loading the toolbar has always been a two-step process: the
first part is initially visible, then the rest of the icons load quickly
but visibly later. (I'd love to know more about what's going on here,
because I'd love to add an icon to the list: TEXT HERE,
something
I use frequently.) I think (but cannot confirm) that it was working on
testwiki. I did do a little editing on testwiki, so I should have noticed
the glitch, but maybe I didn't.

Please have a look now, I added "WikiEditor" instead of the default,

because it has some issues with the seconds part icons and are not easy
extendable.

Look in mediawiki, there are examples on how to extend the icons, you can
do it for your user, and once it works I can include them.

"WikiEdditor" looks good to me, and seems to work fine. I will

investigate extending the icons.

*Category for Speedy Deletion*: Jan, you deleted this category. Granted,
it was empty at the time, but we sysops chase and delete pages that show
up
here. This is how non-sysops request page deletion, by adding the
template,
{{delete|explanation}} to the page. Then a sysop looks at the page and
the
reason, and acts accordingly: deletes the page or removes the template,
and
explains why in the summary.

Sorry, there was not comment like in the russian pages. Can you please

make
it again, and put a comment in there.

  Done.

Most of the users who would request such a thing are now sysops, and can
do their own deletions, but even there, they might want a second
opinion. I
suggest that this method is worth keeping. Therefore, I have re-created
the
category.

Agree, but please put a note like "to not delete even if empty" for

future
admins :-)

  Done.

Concentrating on the glitches, I have failed to mention that most of the
new setup looks wonderful. It was a lot of work, and we are most grateful
for your attention.

thx for the nice words, it was really a big job...but hopefully it is
comming to a pause and in the meantime I can concentrate on the pootle
server.

Re: [proposal] manual create new user on upgraded wiki

2012-12-10 Thread Helen russian
I've verified for the new account: Testaccount. The manual
registration a new wiki user works fine:
* Email with a random password has been sent. I received it normal.
* When I first login as Testaccount with this password, Wiki offers me
change the password and shows me the form for it.
* The password is changed successfully, the login with the new
password is successfully too, but with the second trying. First Wiki
showed me "LogOut" page
(http://wiki.openoffice.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogout)

Probably, new users have some problems when Wiki not immediately shows
the data of the user after login, but it can happen in case of any
method of the registration.

Re: Help please: Can we get some more "easy bugs" marked in Bugzilla?

2013-01-10 Thread Yue Helen
There are some categories of "simple" tasks in my mind. Of course, things
may become complex when you really dive into details.
- Simple UI changes, eg. modify UI string or change the size to avoid
truncation, or color change, or a little more complex, to change the
default settings...maybe someone has different opinion
- Defects already fixed in another stream, eg. in Symphony stream. Again,
you may find some easy things become complex when you come to the
code...but at least, you have some ready solution to refer to, and migrate
the code.
- Inspired by Andrea, work with experienced developers on the same features
but help on simple tasks, eg. some ongoing items development in 4.0. You
can call for input from 4.0 developers. I believe they will be happy if
others can help. Of course, better the volunteers can really help so that
we do not waste the time. One easy defect to start will help to find out
the ones.
- Extension Development (depends on the complexity of the extensions)
- (thinking on more...)

Re: [QA Report]Weekly Defect Analysis Report

2013-03-07 Thread Yue Helen
Thanks Ji. It looks good! The report shows us the weekly number of defects
in and out. It helps us to understand the quality status.

Here are my suggestions to the format of the report.
- Can we have the trend of weekly opened/fixed? this will help us to
understand the progress by weeks.
- Are there some open issues that QA volunteers should pay attention? for
example, if we have many defects which are not confirmed/verified, or if
some new QA tasks need more volunteers.
- Are there some defects that developers should pay special attention?
either high severity defects or regression should fit into this category.
- When we start FVT (eg. sidebar), we should include FVT progress into the
report.

Thanks, Helen

Re: [QA Report]Weekly Defect Analysis

2013-03-29 Thread Yue Helen
Thanks Xuan. Good to know that 23 were opened, and 24 were fixed...we got
one reduce in total :)

One suggestion is, it would be great if you can include a list of defects
which need highlight...it could be based on the severity or the scenario is
very common...

download stats

2013-03-31 Thread Yue Helen
I'm looking at the download stats here,

4.0 status

2013-04-01 Thread Yue Helen
Maybe others have been looking at this...please step in if you are doing
this.

Given we are now close to Apr.5 (the planned regression test date), this
could be a good time for us to look at the current status for all the items
(features/enhancements) in 4.0.

I'm looking at the wiki page here,
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.0+Release+Planning.
Two questions here, 1) do we have more new items in 4.0? if yes, can people
help to add? 2) still quite some items are at the "proposed" status...we
may need to either update the status, or move some to future candidates.
Thoughts?

Thanks
Helen
