Re: RV: locale oc-ES

2022-01-11 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Matthias, Javier

Actually it is quite simple to convert a LO to AOO (and vice-versa) dictionary
extension. Basically they are both are just ZIP files renamed to OXT.
The main difference is that in AOO the dictionary files (.aff, .dic) are in a
folder/directory named "dictionaries" (while in LO they are in the top level)
and the description.xml requires different values, although the fields are
exactly the same.
For simplicity I renamed the file COPYING.txt to LICENSES.txt

Here is a link to a working version

All the best,
Pedro

There were a lot of errors during unpack, as I said.

If Arigo can send me the deb installer, I can try it again.

Hi Arrigo

I got some errors while unpacking the tar.bz2 file so I'm not sure it is
working as expected. It did run and it still reported "Checking for an update
failed."
I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 x64

That is actually good news for OpenOffice users! Will they be notified of new
versions through the MS Store? (it is not really relevant if the AOO update
check works)

I really think that it should not be necessary to be a registered user to
install programs. But Microsoft is clearly following the Google's Android model
where everything is connected to the user account (which is positive in some
points, but it is not so good for privacy...)

It seems that if you don't want to be profiled, you really need to stick to
Linux/BSD

They are illegally using the OpenOffice name so they have to be removed. Of
course they can rebrand it and that would be legal but it would no longer show
on a search for OpenOffice!

I did install it and it worked perfectly! In addition on another Windows 10 Pro
machine that already had AOO 4.1.10 installed in the traditional way when I
installed AOO 4.1.11 through the Store, it correctly updated AOO.

This is excellent!

Then why do the illegal copies of those same "classical" apps that some

This is obviously not a criticism to you!

On a positive note, "our" Apache OpenOffice does show up on the Portuguese

Can anyone provide a link to the Free version?

Maybe it only shows up within the Windows 10 or 11 app?

Re: Fwd: [HEADSUP] Phasing out old Windows versions and 32 bit support

2021-10-27 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Matthias

I agree. Providing 64-bit Windows binaries must be the #1 priority for this
Project (not because they are needed or better than the 32-bit builds but
because they will not be supported by the compilers or the OS)
This will also solve the problem of having to suggest the installation of a
32-bit Java (which is also becoming unsupported)

Pedro

Hi Matthias

People who bought the M1 are those who want to have "the latest" so if they are

My opinion is yes.
In any case people with an M1 Apple are probably 0,0001% of AOO users, if any

Hi Matthias, Carl

I can confirm that bootstrapping works as expected on my Ubuntu 18.04.6 OS
which is running OpenSSL 1.1.1 11 Sep 2018 (2018!)

There are two glitches (caused by missing MD5 files?)

downloading dmake-4.12.tar.bz2
downloading to /source/openoffice/ext_sources/dmake-4.12.tar.bz2.part
checksum not given, md5 of file is 266d817492d8259a640fad075461080e
downloading epm-3.7.tar.gz
downloading to /source/openoffice/ext_sources/epm-3.7.tar.gz.part
checksum not given, md5 of file is 3ade8cfe7e59ca8e65052644fed9fca4

Can someone fix this (or teach me how to do it?)

I agree. It is good news that ODF 1.2 supports signatures (although it would be
ideal for AOO to move on to ODF 1.3)

> What happens when you inspect the digital signatures of a file signed in LO

Document signed with OpenPGP using LO 6.4.7 in Ubuntu 18.04 x64
- opening with AOO 4.1.11 on the same Ubuntu 18.04 x64 the message is "Digital
Signature: The document signature does not match the document content. We
strongly recommend you to not trust this document."
- opening with 4.1.11 on Windows 7 Pro x64 the message is the same but there is
a popup window when the document is opened with a serious warning
https://i.imgur.com/8CloLVl.png

Document signed with OpenPGP using AOO 4.1.11 in Win7 Pro x64
- opening with AOO 4.1.11 on Ubuntu 18.04 x64 the message is "Digital
Signature: The document signature is OK, but the certificates could not be
validated."

Document signed with EU card
- opening with AOO 4.1.11 on Ubuntu 18.04 x64 the message is "Digital
Signature: The document signature is OK, but the certificates could not be
validated."
- opening with AOO 4.1.11 on Windows 7 Pro x64 (where I have installed the Root
certificate for my ID card), the message is "The document signature is OK". If
another ID card is used to sign (and the Root certificate for that card is not
imported) then the message is the same as under Ubuntu.

I can share the documents with you by personal email if that helps.

Re: AOO41X: Time for RC1?

2021-09-28 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Dave

I'm downloading the Source now.

Is there any technical reason why dist.apache.org listings only show the file
name?
Would it be possible to have them show the file details like in
https://downloads.apache.org/openoffice/4.1.10/source/
?

I really like to know the size of the file I'm downloading before starting (to
decide if it is something to be done on Wifi, on Mobile data or on ethernet)

Should this be requested to Infra?

Regards,
Pedro

Windows 10 updates reset many file associations, especially those related to MS
Office (but also images, etc). I think it is a good option to remove the Office
365 if don't plan to renew in the near future (or use it as a document viewer).
I assume this should solve the problem with file associations but it is not
guaranteed that the issue will not arise in future OS updates.

Re: AOO41X: Time for RC1?

2021-09-18 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Dave

I can't sign any document.
I have my own Certificate (from my European ID Card)
It shows up on the Windows certmgr.msc under Personal but does not show up on
AOO 4.1.11 (AOO4111m1(Build:9808) - Rev. 8167b394bd) built by Matthias
I also have a personal SSH key in Linux which AOO 4.1.11 can not use...

Any ideas?

Pedro

That was a nice touch (I remembered it after looking at the screenshots). The
UI is the same but it had an Eclipse wrapper
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Lotus_Symphony) that allowed to have a
document on each tab.

If anyone is interested to try there is still a Deutsch version available at
Chip

and I still have the English installer (from back in 2012!) that I can upload
somewhere.

32-bit AOO is perfectly fine for most (all?) users. The problem is that
Microsoft convinced users that 64 is better than 32 (using the same "bigger is
better" logic vendors use to sell digital cameras, mobile phones, etc.)

I guess AOO has to adapt to the "logic"...

Hi Michael

Just opened the ODM file without any problem under Ubuntu 18.04 x64 and Windows
7 x64 so it seems to be a Mac specific problem.

Have you opened a bug report at https://bz.apache.org/ooo/ ?
If so, please share the link.

If you can test versions 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 that could help locating the
regression.

JRE 1.8.0.291 (32 bits) works perfectly on my Win 10 21H1 laptop and is

I got an error message while using your build to update 4.1.10 on Ubuntu
18.04.5 x64

N: Download is performed unsandboxed as root as file
'/home/pedro/Desktop/DEBS_4111_Arrigo/DEBS/openoffice-ure_4.1.11-1_amd64.deb'

AOO does work correctly and there are no problems when checking for updates

Hope the error message is useful/understandable :)

As admin can you simply replace the outdated download link with the link to the
file archived in your apache account?
It is more user friendly if the download button works (instead of a link in a

I confirm Francis' findings on AOO 4.1.11 running on Windows 7 x64.
There is no problem reopening the document.

I can also confirm that all links in the document behave as expected under AOO

This sounds excellent. It would probably allow more Windows users (the most

Hi Andrea

Thank you for the links. FontAwesome requires a paid license to have access to
the SVGs so I guess that excludes it.
Personally I would avoid using something from Google so my choice would be
Remixicon. But I think we need to check which one has the most complete set.
Maybe we need a combination of both themes.

I agree with Andrea. The latest SVG files (from 2009) all mention

http://creativecommons.org/licenses/publicdomain/; />

so I think we can use them again.

As for having "something nicer" that would require a voluntary designer to
create a new Public Domain theme... What Matthias and myself are considering is
hacking an existing theme to solve the Dark Theme issue.

I think someone read GPL (the naming utilities which we won't use) and

That is correct. I just learned that Excel has such an Advanced feature which
is disabled by default.

My answer to Peter was to the point that although this feature seems useful for
some users, I'm not sure we (as a project) have the manpower to allocate to
such a task and therefore I suggested a solution (sometimes called a hack or
workaround) which involves simply having an extra formula in a separate column.

That is a simple calculation that can be done in two columns. Just type the
number in one column without the dot (although I don't see that pressing an
extra key would slow down any typist) and then on the next column divide it by
100.

I think this is a simple user problem, not a dev issue...

I am all in favor and I am available to contribute. However, as you know, I'm
not a designer. I am knowledgeable in image software and image file formats so
I can hack images :)
Do you know any volunteer designer and/or free (Public Domain or similar
license) icons that we can play with?

I actually like it. But in this case I'm happy it is not the Default theme for
Ubuntu 21.04 :)

I agree. The problem is twofold: 1) the licence for the icon themes (can't use
GPL) and 2) the current icons are bitmaps (it would be really good if AOO
accepted SVG)

Re: Ubuntu 21.04 / dark mode

2021-04-24 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Matthias, all

I just installed Ubuntu 21.04 from scratch (formatted the Pop!_OS SSD) and the
default theme (Standard) does not cause AOO to switch to the High Contrast icon
style.

However the problem does occur if the user manually switches to the Dark
Appearance.

Turning off the Accessibility switch partially solves most of the problem, but
there are other small glitches

https://imgur.com/a/NFqJqoZ

Answering your previous question: no I had not restarted. In the second image
from today's Imgur you can see what it looks like with the Automatic Galaxy
icons after restart.

That worked. The icons are now using the selected theme.
But some items are difficult to see now

Yes, it is better than High Contrast
And I think that the default for Icon size should be Large (since Automatic
doesn't work...) and most current monitors are HiDPI...

Re: Ubuntu 21.04 / dark mode

Hi Matthias

I can say that on PopOS 20.10 based on Ubuntu 20.10 the default theme is also
dark (Pop-dark) and AOO 4.1.9 shows the High Contrast icons (which is quite
unpleasant) even if you switch to another Icon Style.

The download link redirects to Sourceforge a reliable download source.

You can also use the direct download from the Apache server
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.9/binaries/

but you need to manually select the correct file e.g. for en_US using the

Re: What happens if you save a Calc file as Microsoft Excel 2003 XML (.xml) in Windows

My findings are exactly the same as those from Francis. Copying the contents to

Curiously, the file saved as XML 2003 will not open correctly in OpenOffice...

That is how a Compact Disk works. You can not edit a document in a CD.

Hi Pete

If you are using OpenOffice under the Windows OS, please notice that the only
version available for that OS is 32bit (or x86) which means that you need to

There is no conflict between the two so there is no problem in having both

It won't accept my password which I know is correct.

Hi Iouri

This problem has been solved in version 4.1.9 which will be released soon.

I think that what is unacceptable is that Apple released such a buggy update to
the OS. Example https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252174979?page=19

Remember that you are paying to Apple while Apache OpenOffice is a volunteer

If/when the process is streamlined I can volunteer to run it on a monthly/2
months basis (except before and after a new AOO release).
It should be an improvement compared to 3 years :)

It is fixed indeed (although I get 2 notifications for that extension, but one
problem at a time!). Thanks!

It makes sense that it is manually to prevent double notifications but if an
extension author submits a new version does s/he have permission to do that
manual update or s/he has to request someone to do it? Is that the part that
needs to be documented?

Thank you for solving this issue!

Sourceforge seems to work. If you install the 2017.03.01 version or any older
from
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/english-dictionaries-apache-openoffice
you will be notified to update to 2017.05.01 (I noticed this because on my old
XP laptop I still had version 2015.10.01 and was notified about updates after
installing 4.1.9RC1)

So the last notification is from version 2017.05.01 and nobody noticed because
2017 was probably when the Update function was broken.

I hope this helps fixing the issue ;)

Pedro

Thank you for confirming!
There is also no information on new versions available when using AOO version
4.1.8 under Ubuntu 20.04 (which included the English spelling extension from
2020.10.01) which means it is also not a Windows problem, but it is specific to
this extension.

Re: Check for English spelling extension updates broken?

2021-01-19 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Marco

This may be broken for a long time. Please remember that checking for updates
(extensions or program) was broken for years.
It is only since 4.1.8 that it is working again.

But this is only a problem for people who need the English dictionary but do
not use the Windows English installer (which is very likely a minority...)

Pedro

Check for English spelling extension updates broken?

2021-01-19 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi all

I am testing version 4.1.9 RC1 under Windows 7 and I just noticed that the
English spelling extension I have installed is from 2020.07.01 but Checking for
updates does not report any new version.
This is particularly odd because this extension is updated monthly (including
in January 2021).

Installing an older version of another extension does detect new versions so
this not a problem with Checking for Extension Updates but seems specific for
this extension (and maybe for others too).

Can someone confirm this problem?

Just to be clear: this is not a regression or an obstacle for the release of
4.1.9 RC1, the problem also occurs in 4.1.8

Thanks!
Pedro

On Ubuntu 18.04 you need

sudo apt-get install g++ gcc bison flex libarchive-zip-perl libcups2-dev
libpam0g-dev \
   gperf libfreetype6-dev libxaw7-dev libfontconfig1-dev libxrandr-dev

Hope this helps ;)

I already read your opinion in the previous email. Is this a written rule? If
so there should be a warning in the footer code.

Still it does not make sense to leave an outdated banner. The banner can be
hidden by simply commenting the code.

Failure to load document from connected Android device

Hi all

I reported some time ago a bug which I assumed was related to Samba shared
folders
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=128049

Today while trying to edit an ods document in my Android phone (connected
through USB on Ubuntu 18.04 x64) I got a similar error message

General input/output error while accessing
/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A001%2C009%5D/Internal Shared
Storage/Documents/document.ods

The Android drive is mounted as mtp://[usb:001,009]

I can open files on Samba and Android folders using every other program but
OpenOffice...

Any ideas?
