I opened the document and could not reproduce a crash. I only get a slow
down when scrolling the OLE container.

I am not sure on the crash myself. AOO crashed when I tried to mark a
lot of Rows within the writer table below the OLE object.

I initially connected both incidents because of the slow scrolling, and
I thought this combines both.

So Dave did not get any Performance Issues, but you did. This is
strange. I tried today again and I have again performance Issues.

Ass soon as the Ole Object is to be rendered, AOO behaves like it tries
to deal with a lot of data.

I also use Ubuntu and my machine is definitely not powerful. ;-)

Well I just wanted to say I have enough power to handle everything.

BTW I am on KDE, but it may be that I have Gnome libaries installed. I
am not sure if this goes into our GNOME issue tolls or is a general thing.

(And I totally agree that we should look into our Gnome implementation.)

Hi Peter,

Not sure if this will be of any help to you.

My hardware spec is very similar to yours and I am on Linux Mint 20.3

I don't get any (performance issues?) with your document in AOO 4.1.13
(Released) and no crash when editing the OLE Calc object, with either
AOO or LibreOffice on Linux.

However, I do get a 100% reproducible crash when attempting to edit the
OLE Calc object in your document with LibreOffice 7.3.5.2 x64 on Win 10,
but it does not crash LibreOffice 7.4.0.2 x64 on Win 10.

I was going to suggest earlier (when you were discussing telling
users how to find their profiles) that, if you are using this to talk
to users, then the environment variable %APPDATA% is (I think) all
you need. This has the advantage of avoiding two problems: part of
the path to this is through a folder hidden by default, and some
users may not be aware of their own Windows user name.

I'm aware of the variable. However, I wanted to avoid this as it's to,
hm, variable when showing path names as example. ;-)

But maybe it's indeed the best way when covering all Windows versions.
To reach also the inexperienced users I've to add an explaination how
to use this variable, e.g., in the Windows Explorer.

Nevertheless, do you have a source for full path names?

Portfolio is at %APPDATA%\ROAMING\OpenOffice\4

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to OpenOffice. Please see below what Keith wrote.

Since the code base is large and complex, we usually suggest that the
first thing a new developer try is setting up their environment and
making a first build. A complete build guide is available at

I would expect l10n-savy developers to push changes from the Pootle
development repository into AOO41X or other branches, at appropriate
times (for example, before a beta release).

I use 41x and 42x as an example. The amount of Strings used in 41x and
42x are different. The PO files do not match.

And we will have that also in future. The way we are developing
currently that we have one productive release and we build one
development release, leads to the point that we might have 2 releases.

I would like to try to have an auto backport script the creates from the
development branch PO files PO files of the older version.

That is is the Idea at least

While not using PDF-1A may reduce the size because fonts etc. are not
embedded in the PDF we lose the control over the appearance of the PDF
on the user side.

The problem with PDF/A-1A is that it does not allow transparencies and
converts them to a graphic. For the Getting Started Guide, this
results in a 3 page ToC graphic, as well as changes to many of the
graphics used. If we are going to loose control anyway, I would rather
do it and gain smaller file size right now.

You are right regarding transparency... I didn't think of that.

But then we should at least embed the used font(s).

However, this brings up the question is it time to explore other means
of creating the PDF than what we have today? Have we ever looked at
PDFBox?

Depending on your OS you could also test one of these PDF "printer". I
often use PDF24 on Windows...

What I have done for the PDF is to delete the TOC from the ODT and
create the PDF\A-1a and export  the bookmarks as active links. It is
still a bit larger than I would like, but it does embed the fonts as
well give the user usable TOC.

Question is which one?  There are several.

If you do not have a gui, I am not sure how you want to use Apache
OpenOffice. The headless function is somewhat opaque to me, and I think
it has some issues.

You need to install all rpms. Apache OpenOffice is divided into several
packages.

However within the build folder there should be the build result. And
you can directly start AOO there.

With what configuration did you build? can you post to dev-Mailing list?

Also I cc the dev mailing list. There you can ask questions by sending

We have to figure a community solution that works for all involved.

I know the licenses but I don't understand why I couldn't offer Apache a

The Apache OpenOffice Logo is part of our trademark. Trademarks are
legal documents, that provide us rights if we clash with other
companies. That are not our rules. This are the rules Companies play by.
Since a lot of people have interest in the market name OpenOffice, Logo
is nothing we can easily change. I hope you understand that this is a
difficult topic, and has nothing to do with your proposal or person. So
lets see if we can agree on the other things first. If a trademark is
running out we can have a discussion on the logo for sure. This will

But you would need to find a new name for it, since you wouldn't be
allowed to call it OpenOffice.

You could change the toolbar icons, while leaving the icons identifying

Occitan is composed by these diferent variants.

 Alvernès

 Bearnès

 Creixent

 Gascó

 Judeoprovençal

 Llenguadocià

 Montpellerenc (subdialecte)

 Niçard

 Occità llemosí

 Provençal

 Vivaroalpí

Aranese is a Gascon dialect spoken in Aran Valley (Spain)

I think that ISO 639 is a realy bad system to define languages an their
dialects.

Nowadays exists 2 spell checkers for libreoffice

oc_FR - I think that is Llenguadocian (but I'm not sure)
gsc_FR - A gascon dialect spell checker.

The correct definition maybe can be
FR_oci_leng
FR_oci_gsc

But this isn't a ISO 639 code. Really I don't have a good solution for that and
I'm not sure what are the diferences between the diferent dialects.

If you defines a code OCI_fr you need to update the oc_FR spell checker.

In my case I prefer use oc_ES to standarize with the old aplications. But I'm
not sure what is the best choice to define it in libreoffice.

You can decide at your own criterion, oc_ES or oci_ES. Really is not a problem
for me, because Aran Valley is the only region in Spain where people speaks
occitan. I need just a code.

I send you the locale file.

Subject: Aranese Spell Checking

Javier:

I saw your request for support of Aranese in Apache OpenOffice.

I don't how difference Aranese is from Gascon, nor how different either
of those are from Occitan.

The primary issue is ISO 639-3 Code OCI, which is for Occitan, and the
various dialects. A spell checker for Aranese will conflict with a spell
checker for Occitan.
(I am saying that, based on working with spell checkers for various
languages of Southern Africa.)

LibreOffice currently supports Occitan as a language/local.

My suggestion is creating OCI_fr, OCI_ad, OCI_es, and maybe OCI_it as
locales. Get together with users of other dialects/languages that are
classified under OCI, and work up something that is acceptable to
everybody, but still allows them to use the grammar and spell checkers.

Go to http://www.it46.se/localegen/select_lang.php to create the locales.
Then either go to https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/buglist.cgi and
file a bug requesting creation of the respective locales, or email the
xml, and I'll do that.

The _only_ reason I'm not creating the locales, is that I have no idea
what the correct information is.

Hallo Herr Dr. Michael Stehmann,
Hallo Frau Mechtilde Stehmann,

TU Chemnitz treffen. Die Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2022 werden daher voll
verteilt -- also rein virtuell -- stattfinden.

folgender URL anmelden:
https://chemnitzer.linux-tage.de/2022/de/programm/beitrag/change/121/9b253b7a79e434cb72c20f8cf80f763e

Workadventure (siehe https://workadventu.re/) nachbauen.

gut ankommt. Gern könnt Ihr kleine Veranstaltungen (z.B.
Mini-Diskussionsrunden, Quizze, was auch immer euch einfällt)
anbieten. Diese dürfen auch mehrfach über das Wochenende stattfinden.
Wir empfehlen eine Dauer von 15 bis 45 Minuten. Natürlich dürft ihr
euch auch die gesamte Zeit für Gespräche und Diskussionen nehmen.

WICHTIG: Teilt uns euer Standprogramm (Zeitpunkt, Titel,

Re: volunteer in contributing to Open Office

2022-01-16 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi George,

Cool! Volunteers are very welcome. The time you spend is up to you. I am
very happy if you can regular invest 3h a month.

Even you have no Experience beyond python, would you mind to test our
build guide and try to build AOO?

We try to switch to SCONs, which is complete python based approach. A
additional Volunteer who is looking into this field would be awesome.

If you want to look more into testing, I am not sure where we are there,
but going through Bugzilla and test Issues if they still are accurate
could be something worth doing.

All the best

Peter

I ask, because I have seen the Update Feed fail on Ubuntu in a VM when
it definitely worked on my Laptop.

There were a lot of errors during unpack, as I said.

What kind of errors? Maybe permission issues?
I hope I will eventually get a trunk build right for everyone...

By the way the problem _under Linux_ may or may not be due to
TLS... in fact the error message is "Device or resource busy". There
is something _inside_ serf that is failing; I am not sure it is a
network protocol issue.

I am looking into this issue in my available time.

It's true that the returned value (16) corresponds to "Device or
resource busy"... but it _also_ corresponds to
SERF_SSL_CERT_UNKNOWN_FAILURE ! And _this_ is the error!

This error is raised during the verification of the SSL certificate
chain. We are in method SerfSession::verifySerfCertificateChain().
Apparently, we have a certificate with subject "CN=*.apache.org" and
we are asking our certificate container if it "has" and "trusts" such
certificate for URL ooo-updates.apache.org.

The call (simply described) is:
CertificateContainer::hasCertificate("ooo-updates.apache.org",
   "*.apache.org")

Surprisingly (to me at least), this returns
security::CertificateContainerStatus_UNTRUSTED

This breaks the update request process.

The culprit is the nss library. Our method
SecurityEnvironment_NssImpl::verifyCertificate calls
CERT_PKIXVerifyCert() that returns failure. The reason is error -8172,
"Peer's certificate issuer has been marked as not trusted by the user."

The problem is that NSS does not have access to an updated list of
certification authorities.

NSS has its own built-in list of CA's that is stored inside library
libnssckbi.so. Such list does not include the CA used by our update
server. For this reason, the check for updates fails as described.

There are two possible solutions, given the fact that we may not be
able to update our NSS to the latest and greatest version:

1- patch the latest CA list from current NSS into our NSS. I did it
for the purpose of this development, and... it is horrible. We have
to shave away some attributes that are not supported by our NSS:
 - CKA_NSS_SERVER_DISTRUST_AFTER
 - CKA_NSS_EMAIL_DISTRUST_AFTER
 - CKA_NSS_MOZILLA_CA_POLICY
and I would not feel ``safe'' for our end-users if we did so.

2- try to access the system-level CA list, that every system should
   have.

I think that 2- is the way to go.

Just an unqalified question, can we use OpenSSL instead?

I am not sure how much the functionalities of NSS and OpenSSL overlap.

It is true that we already have a codebase supporting NSS, and that
NSS is fairly widespread IMHO. If possible, I prefer remaining with
NSS.

sure, it is a dependency we have to maintain of some sort. Since we will
not use the edge Version.

So I thought if it is not working we could try to make it obsolete. But
you got it otherwise. nice.

And... you know what?

Don Lewis' proposed update to NSS seem to fix this problem!
If I build from his branch, I get the much awaited "already up to
date" message!
Proof:
https://home.apache.org/~ardovm/openoffice/linux/openoffice4-nss-x86_64-2022-01-07-installed.tar.bz2

So, the way to go is probably the one I had just excluded in the first
place:

0- update NSS as per https://github.com/apache/openoffice/pull/100

cool if it works merge it.

Re: I want to volunteer.

2021-12-09 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi Gabriel,

sorry for the late reply.

It is a good thinking to start of with submitting bug problem reports
for starters. However I would like to improve on your idea.

Website Issues:

If you see an Issue on our website we would rather like you to send
directly a proposal. Or in case of the wiki, just go and fix what you
want to change. If the community does not agree, we can discuss it.
Every change is tracked and we can role back in case of need. So in
order to work on the website all you need is a github account. See our
guide at [1] for further explainations

Bugzilla:

For working on Bugzilla [2], you need to request a Bugzilla Account. For
this you write a mail to this list with your request, a prefered user
name and a n email you own. You can of course still add further bugs to
the over 10K open Bugs we have. In my opinion if you want to work on
Bugzilla, it would be more helpfull top check if the reported ones are
still valid. And in case there is no Test description add a comment how
to test this case.

Bugzilla Example [3]

In this Bug we see it is on Accepted, which means the report is not only
open but confirmed. Version it says 619, which is old...

Latest Confirmation is --- Which says we do not know if this is still
valid. So if you test this one and find out it is still valid. then you
select the version you have tested with (preferable 4.1.11)

If it is not valid anymore you can close it.

If you could think on my suggestion and provide feedback this would be
awesome :-)

All the best

I have no Idea what you want, except that you are in a rage.

Please focus on the Microsoft Shop. What Issues do you have?

I do not work for MS, but I am a committer of the ASF and focus on AOO and not
on MS shops.

Are you
against publishing on the shop?

no

Great!

Or is the issue more that you weren't
included in the process?

Yes, that's what I mean - more specifically, that I don't understand why there
hasn't been a thorough public discussion on such an issue.

(Again, I may be overlooking something, but where is this discussion?)

Okay, all are in favor for publishing Apache OpenOffice on Microsoft
Shop. Everyone has expressed a positive attitude. No one said he had any
issues with it.

So I do not see any worth in that if we had done a discussion. We do not
need to take any action to fix anything.

Please understand that I am not technically against AOO now being available in
the MS store, but I am criticising the fact that we do not communicate enough.

Meritocracy is one thing, but in projects as big as ours, there are things that
should not just be done, but should be discussed in advance with everyone
involved - a bit of democracy within meritocracy.

(I also don't think that such criticism is unreasonable, because the mere formality that
we also have places where "votes" are obligatory shows that there is already
democracy within the meritocracy.)

What is with the formal release vote? For me that is total sufficient.
And we documented all voices [1]. I am not able to follow what you want.

[1] https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.11

So I finalize:

You have no objections on the Release of Apache OpenOffice on Microsoft
store. And we have the requested democratic Vote. Where everyone can
vote on and is acknowledged.

For me all possible concerns and demands are fulfilled.

What do you want to discuss? Please do so. Make your case. I
do not see it.

It is a pity that you now seem to want to portray the release process (which is
actually well regulated) as something where everyone can do 'their thing'
individually.
I still clearly remember the criticism I met from you when I only announced
that I wanted to change the release notes afterwards.
What I have always seen is that even in a meritocratic project, every active
project-member has a right to have a say in all centrally important things and
it would somehow be appropriate for a free project if such things were
discussed together in advance.

Re: Combine VMs

2021-11-29 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi Gavin,

Thanks for bringing this up.

This is an interesting proposal which I would like to discuss as a fresh
request. I’ll include some notes about ASF Infra works so that the community
can understand the constraints.

I have some questions and concerns about this proposal.

(1) As part of this update Infra requested that we change from using Infra’s
MySQL server to moving this onto the VMs. Under this plan is this still the
case? If so, does your load analysis take this into account?

(2) Each of the three sites uses different configurations to display content
from within the HTTPD server.
- phpBB - https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/ug/
- mediaWiki - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/PHP_configuration
- pootle -
http://docs.translatehouse.org/projects/pootle/en/stable-2.8.x/server/installation.html

(a) For phpBB and mediaWiki we need to assure that the php and mysql
configurations are compatible.
(b) For pootle we’ll need to assure that it’s python based approach and
database choices are also compatible,

(3) translate.apache.org - the pootle service gets its httpd service locked up
frequently and then it is currently crontab’s to restart. I’m not sure that is a
“solution" that is compatible with shared services. We’ll also need to
understand more clearly from the L10N team their special requirements.

(4) I am pretty close to ready to do the forum migration. The one last bit was
understanding how to get full administrative control over the forums. I found
the way a couple of weeks ago.

(5) In addition to migrations each of the software packages needs to be
upgraded.

(6) If we go down this path I would recommend that we combine Forum and Wiki
first and once that is done we consider pootle.

(7) Since Infra uses puppet to configure VMs is there an easy way to use puppet
to configure an equivalent docker image? (Thanks Peter). Doing this would allow
more community members to participate in maintaining these critical resources.

I have found a blog post on puppet.com [1]  that describes how puppet
can help to build an image.

There is also the way that podman has a puppet module to build the image
from [2]

Also we could use maybe use  puppet for the provisioning / managing a
podman infrastructure, example at [3]

I am not sure which way to go. I only had checked Kubernetes with my
company (which is currently the hype at work), and they said it is not
feasable if we only look at AOO Project. If other projects would want to
move also their services into an container infrastructure it might worth
it a second thought.

For me. I can work with Infra on moving forum and media wiki to the same VM. I
have a new job which will limit my volunteer time for this to Sunday and
perhaps one evening. Having more community sysadmins would be great.

I would like to help. Not sure when I have time. :(

If we could maybe have one of our three VMs extendet with Docker or
podman capabilities, we could use that as a testing ground and see if we
can move things there.

However we have here and there had the Idea that a container (podman,

[Infra as code] A docker build environment for AOO

Recently Arrigo tried it, and it did work for him too. I would like to

The dockerfile depends on centos7 image, with Java 1.8 and an outdated

I would maybe add a mwiki page next to our build guides, and have that

Hi Jörg,

Check:

Version Number Assignment (Apache OpenOffice internal)

   Structure

..

   Explanation

: huge release with visible changes and new features including
incompatible API changes if necessary. Translation updates are most
often necessary to address the UI visible changes.

: smaller improvements of features that don't need any
translation. And of course any kind of bug fixes.

: only selected bug fixes and most often only critical
ones. This
includes any potential security issues.

From: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Releases

Yes, agreed.

That is the current policy. So well as long as compatible we could
Change the API with a minor Release.

I see no need and no justification for watering down clear rules/explanations.

The question of what "compatible" actually means is by no means easy to answer.

Example: Perhaps there is a property, method, etc. in the API that accidentally has a spelling mistake in its name (I recently had something like this in LO regarding a parameter of a Posgresql access) - on the one hand, one can then argue that a name correction that does not change the actual function would be compatible, but one can also argue that it is incompatible because only the old naming (which is possibly already used a lot in projects) no longer works.

I define Incompatible on User API level if the API user has to change
his work, as a result of changes in a release.

I think there are a lot of old an new stuff intermixed. We have left the

My humble suggestion, given the fact that the section contains updated

I am available to do this work, if no one else has either better ideas

QA automatisation in AOO

2021-10-24 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hello all,

In the discussion on API, and releases Jörg has ask about how we could
improve QA.

The only way in general is to formalize. We need to define testcases and
automate those.

There are 2 ways of Automation:

1) is through Code

2) is through GUI.

Today both can be automated.

@1)

The Automation through code is already in place, but needs optimization
and improvements.

We lack KPIs like test coverage, We lack a reporting facility and we
have issues during the build.

@2)

What we have are test cases written on [1]. What we need is to extend them.

And then we need to automate them to get a good test coverage.

Also in this field we have no statistics. I think the last volunteer
looked into it has been Kai 3 years ago. I am not aware that we have
anyone who is looking into it now.

We have also a lot of Testcases in Bugzilla. Also some years ago
Mechtilde and I looked at some Test tool for Testers. But we did not
come to any conclusion.

Once we have testcases, we can again Automate them. These Tools are
called Robots, and remember in some ways in game bots. They click on the
Application window and check for results.

There are open sourced solution and Commercial solutions with community
editions.

That is what I have in mind when I talk in QA.

Re: API doc on web site [Was: Accessing the comment object (annotation) in Draw/Impress via API]

2021-10-24 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi Jörg,

Check:

Version Number Assignment (Apache OpenOffice internal)

 Structure

..

 Explanation

: huge release with visible changes and new features including
incompatible API changes if necessary. Translation updates are most
often necessary to address the UI visible changes.

: smaller improvements of features that don't need any
translation. And of course any kind of bug fixes.

: only selected bug fixes and most often only critical ones. This
includes any potential security issues.

From: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/Releases

That is the current policy. So well as long as compatible we could
Change the API with a minor Release. It seems I got the detail wrong.

Actually we do provide updated documentation included in

the SDK with

each convenience binary release.
It can be found on Linux at
/opt/openoffice4/sdk/docs/common/ref/module-ix.html
if the SDK is installed.

Knowing that we can't make API changes like adding or deprecating
methods or things like that in a minor version change,

Is this a principle that _all_ those involved in releases

will also _reliably_ follow?

It's up to us to inform new contributors who may make such a
mistake if
it were to happen.

yes, but ...

As far as I know, only the PMC has the right to decide about the release of a
release - so will the PMC reliably support the mentioned principle (='API
changes not in a minor release')?
I would appreciate a clear "yes" or "no" on this.

And please allow me to say that the current formal minor release of AOO is
"4.1", so, respecting the implied principle, a change to the API is thus not
allowed until version 5.0.0.

Hi Jörg,

I am not sure what you refer to.

I refer to the fact that changes in the API documentation are marked in time (the typical
entry is "since ..."), so that the API documentation can be used in practice
for all program versions.
I think we are on the same page if we want to change the API, but I
think this is not the topic.

The documentation has no
influence on
backward compatibility.

right.

What I am referring to is only that we should not make changes if the QA is not
100% guaranteed. And what I currently experience is that there is a tiny(!)
problem in the API documentation, but immediately demanded now to regularly
renew the documentation routinely.

Again this is relevant if we change the API itself.

Explain to me bitterly where there are at all changes in the API that would
make it necessary to update the documentation inflationary frequently?
I follow every release carefully, only from API changes I have not noticed for
years.

The API Documentation is extracted from the Code.

For example the comment in

http://opengrok.openoffice.org/xref/aoo41x/main/offapi/com/sun/star/modules.idl?r=d1766043#83

does have an impact on the web page:

https://www.openoffice.org/api/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/office/module-ix.html

I hope you see both documentations are linked. So when do we update the
documentation on the web site?

Currently we will never update the web site, and the danger is that if
we change a comment in the documentation it will not end up on the website..

So Arrigos Idea is to update with each release. This would keep the
documentation on the web in sync with the latest Code released for this
API Version (Which should roughly correspond with the major release).

It makes sense to publish on the website which Code the extraction has
been taken from and what Versions the Documentation relates to.

On an API Change, QA and documentation  Versions need to be discussed.
But we can discuss this when we get near to a API Change. I think until
then we have done some steps in respect of QA.

Carl is working on improvements, and I would like to try if we can
establish a UI check with UI Path or similar tool.

All the best

Peter

Re: API doc on web site [Was: Accessing the comment object (annotation) in Draw/Impress via API]

2021-10-17 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi Jörg,

I am not sure what you refer to. The documentation has no influence on
backward compatibility.

According to current rules for Version numbers we must bump the first
digit if we do an API change.

So for Version 5 we must provide a Documentation a Version 4
Documentation and a Version 5 Documentation.

I think even if Version 5 is backward compatible with Version 4, the
documentation should be per Main Version.

I am fighting that we stick to the rule. (Actually I whish we only
change the first Digit if we have an API change. Which is a clear signal
to anyone what he has to look out for.

Current rules have a loophole to bumb for a majore release for features.
Which I do not see the benefit in. But this is maybe a different discussion)

It would be beneficial if we update the documentation with each release,
allowing a process that the documentation improves.

I think that means at current release speed we update API Documentation
once / twice a year. Which should not be to much effort?

I would not see documentation update as a blocker to a release thought.
Maybe even not part on the Release itself. But I think it is smart

to have both process in sync.

I think Arrigos Idea is a good one.

the API doc is (somehow) part of the website. And what you

Those pages should be generated by Autodoc, for what I understand.

Are there any scripts that do this? Or any policies on how and when to
update the API documentation? For example, I would suggest that each
new release would be a good time to update the API.

-1 (for the moment)

this is only a good idea if there was a way to make backward compatibility,
because information is needed for all OO versions, not only for the current
version

please understand me correctly:
it's not about not changing anything, it's about not changing a whole procedure
without careful(!) examination just because there is an incorrect entry

[Discussion] ODF 1.3 filter implementation strategy

2021-10-10 Thread Peter Kovacs

Hi all,

ODF 1.3 becomes more relevant soon. MS Office 2021 will support only ODF 1.3

So I try to look into this, however our implementation on ODF currently
uses not the filter API but office Document model directly.

Should we stay with this architecture or should we use this opportunity
to migrate on a API driven filter?

What is your opinion on this?

Hi Caroline,

I quote from the FAQ (Just replaced Ignite with OpenOffice, so you can

May I use Apache marks, screenshots, or program output within

In general, yes, as long as you comply with the rest of the Apache
trademark policies, in particular in regard to not claiming
association or endorsement of/for/by the ASF. For more details or for
explicit permissions when legally required, contact us
.

 *

The ASF prefers that you refer to Apache products using the full
"Apache /Ignite/" form of the product name, at least in the first
or most prominent uses within a book, chapter, article, or other
section of a larger published work; see the Apache /Project/ brand
usage guide for
details.

 *

You may use screenshots, program output, and other displays
created by or taken of Apache products in use in descriptive ways
in the content of publications. Such use may include Apache
product logos as they normally display in the product in question.

 *

You must include a trademark attribution on the obverse title page
or wherever you acknowledge other trademarks and copyrights. A
preferred attribution would be:

Apache®, Apache OpenOffice®, OpenOffice®, and the logo are either
registered trademarks or trademarks of the Apache Software
Foundation in the United States and/or other countries. No
endorsement by The Apache Software Foundation is implied by the
use of these marks.

  * ASF does not require royalties for the use of Apache marks or
other IP in regularly-published books. We certainly do appreciate
non-targeted donations, and a number of publishers have set up
systems to donate all or part of the royalties from their books to
the ASF. Read more about Donating to the ASF
.

If you still need a explicit permission then please contact PMC of

A decentral approach is maybe to use git. You have only to unpack and

Using git people may have a git server in the web (there some free

Should I think about it further on?

Sure. It is always worth to play through the approach. I found a related

IMHO the only answer is theming. That mean we need to develop the UI

The menu / nav now looks more sorted and clear. The menu items are well aligned
and personally I don't miss any icons for them.

Maybe you can reduce the font size and margins a bit as currently less content
is fitting on the page than before without the need to scroll.

I reduced the base font size from 18px to 16px. Tweaked a lot of other margin
related items slightly. I think we now have a website that reads well even on a
small iPhone.

Unless there are objections I’ll put it in production in my morning tomorrow.

The feather in front of “The ASF” is possible.

And maybe an indication which menu point we currently see. Maybe an arrow? (if you visit the
link and you click on General you would see a -> in front of the menu point
"About".)

I’m counting on bootstrap for the nav menus and I don’t think that is at all
easy. It would likely require keeping information about what menu a page is
part of in the page along with making sure that the page is on the menu.

I thought of something like this pseudocode:

if (window.location.href = this.dropdown-item.href) then this.css = "selected" else
this.css = "unselected"?

I get your idea and it could be a way to do it and there is a way to make
bootstrap menu items inactive.

There may be some issues with the comparison as the window.location.href is
fully qualified while we do not want to use fully qualified urls for the
dropdown-item hrefs (makes testing the site painful.)

Hmm, bummer seems not that easy.

So maybe something like:

const boxes =
documentui.dropdown-menu.show.querySelectorAll('#dropdown-item');

boxes.forEach(box => {
if (window.location.href = box.dropdown-item.href) then box.css = "selected" else box.css
= "unselected"?

}

Well something along those lines. I really suck at JS, i just try to write
something so you have a better Idea what I thought of. Could well (likely) be
this is rubbish.

So for the pages I tried this approach seem to be pretty neat. Pages that are
not listed on the menue, maybe it is the qwuestion where they belong, anyhow.

Actually, I would want to learn how to customize Bootstrap 5 first, but I’m not
going to do that right now.

There were numerous tweaks needed. The current site did not catch the rename of
volunteer@ to recruitment@.

Unless there are objections I plan to squash & merge after I get the mobile
view better.

I tried earlier today on my phone and it did look promising already. The
Desktop does also look great.

Do you have an android phone, or iPhone?

I tried from an Android phone. Sony Xperia XA2 and now Samsung S8 to be exact.
I use a Firefox browser.

Now I see a hamburger menu, nice. However the feather makes the menu look
unaligned. it is great on the desktop.

I am not a gui developer so I am not sure what is state of the art on hamburger
menus is, but i would intend the other menus, with the goal that the text
starts always at same point.

IMO the feather is good in the hamburger menu. All of the ASF menu items leave
the site.

I’m done with UI work for now. It is time to update content. See
https://github.com/apache/openoffice-project/blob/preview/refresh/PAGES.md

I really like the fact that it incorporates the UI approach we are using.

Without testing the switch on Mac and Windows I hesitate. That's is all.

From our dependency point of view, yes we need to make the switch soon.

Hi Yuri,

Nice work! However there is more then One change I am unsure about.

# you removed the __cplusplus string check. I think that is a bit hacky.
It would have benn better to check the content and add it with or

# switching to C11 -> we should do this and start refactoring the code
to the C11 style. However again we should check that all our target are
aware of C11, and then have a plan to move up the compiler versions. I
think [1] will help creating such a plan.

This are 2 points where we should think a bit before looking into the
next steps what we would need to do.

Again I really like the way to go. It needs some more work until we can
set this up.

This issue occurs because your Boost library is to new, and the fallback
case has been selected (as in

Maybe this is more an issue of autoconf? My build on Arch Linux stopped
working because of needed changes due to a incompatible autoconf update.

Whatever. The best way is to check how HAVE_STL_INCLUDE_PATH is set. Or
what __cplusplus Macroi variable is set to. __cplusplus should fuillfill
>= 201103L. This can be soimething that may fail if there is a change
