How to search for files to modify to fix a bug?
Hi all, I am just starting out to fix bugs. I spent some time around Bugzilla and now have a decent knowledge about how it works. And I understand finding the right files to fix is big part of fixing a bug. It seems there's no set of rules on how to find the files of interest. But, I bet there's some logical way to look for those files that needed to be modified to fix a bug. Any ideas/suggestions/advices on how to do that is much appreciated. Re: Successful 1st Build!
Hi Andre, I had no problems building OpenOffice, it was flawless. It just took several hours (like over 10) just like it says in the building guide page. I am also a math minor and fond of numbers, so I prefer any work related to numeral computation. But, if not, other areas sound interesting too. My goal is to gain some experience working in a huge real world project like OpenOffice as well as contribute to the open source world. I am planning to work on OpenOffice at least for the remaining of my college career, which is over a year. So something that I can work for a long time will be nice. Successful 1st Build!
Hi all, I had previously introduced myself and subscribed to the dev list with another email. But, I'll be using this e-mail: chhos...@gmail.com from now on so I am reintroducing myself shortly. I am Tenzin Chhosphel from New York City. I am currently a computer science major at City College - CUNY, a rising senior. I have hands-on experience on multiple languages: C, Objective-C, Java, etc. but I primarily code in C++. I have successfully built OpenOffice on Ubuntu 12.04 and ready for coding, debugging, and woking. So what projects can I contribute, where can I get started? Thanks, Tenzin
New Dev Volunteer
Hello OpenOffice developers, My name is Tenzin Chhosphel. I am based in New York City. I am a rising senior at City College - CUNY majoring in Computer Science. As I was browsing through the never ending list of programming volunteer opportunities, OpenOffice stood out. I had used OpenOffice in my linux system as well as in school's linux lab. I think providing such a great productivity suite for free is a kind and wonderful thing. This makes me wonder how can Microsoft and Apple charge over hundred dollars for a similar productivity suite ! Some of the most relevant CS courses I took in school include data structures, algorithms, and OOP programming. I did well in those courses as well as throughout my college career. I have over 3.6 GPA. Although I have experience in several programming languages such as C, Java, Objective-C, and so forth, I primary code in C++. So, as OpenOffice is coded in C++, I think I can contribute to the project. I want to leave with few questions. I like to get to know more specifics about current happenings, who is working on what, that sort of thing. I also like to know which specific part of the project can I contribute should I be a volunteer at OpenOffice. Thank you. Sincerely, Tenzin Chhosphel - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@openoffice.apache.org
