This has to do with styles and local modifications to styles. See
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/UserGuide/Writer/Styles
(feel free to propose enhancements to that page, we can create an
account for you to edit it online if you wish).

This brings up another question, does
the Q-A team have a list of cases it needs to test to make sure that
no fixed has been lost? It should have.

We use Bugzilla and query it appropriately. Bug reports should go to
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ and we can give you pointers if you need
extra documentation.

Side note: it seems you often start a discussion by simply replying to
an existing one and changing the mail subject. This makes things more
difficult to read for those who follow this mailing list in
conversation view (your message is hidden in another conversation). To
start a new conversation, simply compose a new mail to dev AT
openoffice.apache.org instead of replying to an existing one: you won't
see the difference but e-mail software will.

Regards,
  Andrea.

- at least at the beginning of the paragraph.
This may be an error in the new release.

It should have. It sometimes happens that changes to common code fixes one
problem and (re)generates another.
Some calls to the common code may need to start calling a different subroutine.
