Minor nits:

s/multiple computer./multiple computers./

You can use OpenOffice perpetually, - that does not read well to me.
Perpetually means ceaselessly/continuously to me - which is not
something we should encourage! (kids also need to get out and about)

Perhaps put something like:

You can use OpenOffice, with no subscription fees - ever.

Although the picture is fun, it is obviously US and white (and not recent).
I'm not sure it gives the correct message for a multilingual modern appliction.

Perpetual is a licensing term, perhaps a term not familiar to the
average blog reader. When you have a perpetual license it never
expires. I've rephrased it along your suggestion.

Our main concern has been to use freely available images, generally
public domain ones. We've been finding them on Flickr Commons, which
generally contains public domain works from various government
archives:

http://www.flickr.com/commons

They are not all U.S. images. We've used good ones from Australia,
Norway, Ireland, etc., in the past. But are predominately older, BW
images.

Feel free to look around those available images. If you find
something more appropriate we use it. In theory we could use some
forms of CC images as well, but so far we tried to limit ourselves to
images that were permissively licensed.

Something I'd like to organize, at some point, is a photo contest,
where we can invite contributions of photographs of individuals and
groups using AOO. Or maybe at a conference we can even shoot our own
stock photos to give us a more modern set of images to work with. But
I would like to avoid the cliche corporate stock photo of two people
in business suits looking at a laptop, one sitting and one standing
;-)

Can not be achieved immediately, of course, but I think that these ideas

 1. Use the same software at home and at school without worrying about

 2. Participate in the AOO community and provide useful things for others
 while you learn
 3. Fix broken Word documents
 4. Provide choice and promote transferrable skills by using more than one
 type of tool
 5. Get a qualification referenced to the European Qualifications Framework

 6. Fits nicely in a small/low income community's school budget.

7. Work in multiple languages.

8. use it on your llinux/win/mac machine

9. having all you need for the school in one suit/program (cause other projects
which has to make money trying to split up the programs like one program for
writing onother for drawing to make more money)

10. possible to open other formats like .doc (maybe note that it does not work
perfect because it's a propritary/closed format) but works mostly

maybe also note some features that are new to 4.0, like the optional side bar
which makes the work easier and faster.

If you also want to mention that there are still some things missing, here are
my most wanted/missing featured I still remember from shool:
(of course there are more things like Inserting a bibliographic reference int
a frame (e.g. image frame) (-will show up allways as [0]))

#create a 3d surface chart (surface plots)
#save the annotations in impress
(don*t know if these are still missing)

for example here are some little resources produced by EducOOo
for our 14 - 19 y o pupils

 galleries and extensions
http://campuslibre.educoo.org/main/document/document.php?cidReq=OUTILSAUTOUROOO
AOODraw has enough features to allow simple electronic schematic design either
using connectors or grid (the choice in these galleries, some of them taken
from dsciences)

millimetered, semi-log and log-log generator
http://campuslibre.educoo.org/courses/BACPROM/document/24_Logarithmes_et_exponentielles/milifred4.otg
an english version exists but as there is few text it would be easy to
translate it in any language.
This module is used by dmaths

Oscilloscope simulator without macros

rem : after 25y of teaching , it appears to me that that pupils are mainly
looking for short howtos
(one page, no more) about specific issues related to their program of study (ex
: how to deal with complex numbers in calc, how to write a simple formula, how
to structure a homeworrk with AOO, where can i find an AOO template for my

It is that time of year now: back to school.

I wonder if this could make a good blog post. Of course, AOO being

Maybe specific templates or extensions that are especially useful for school?

Good for students as well as for teachers?

Any special tips or techniques about using AOO for school work?
