The files are still on your computer, most likely the problem is that they
don't show in OpenOffice's Recent Documents setting. This may be because you
have upgraded from an earlier version of OO to the current version and the
current version knows that it has not opened any documents. If you start up
OpenOffice and use /File /Open, you can manoeuvre to the directories in which
the files are stored. Selecting each file in turn will open it and it will now
show on OO's Recent Documents. Alternately, at system level (i.e., in Windows,
if that is what you are using, double clicking on each file ought cause it to
open in OpenOffice and it should show thereafter on Recent Documents.

If the above advice doesn't work, I suggest you bring your query to the OO user
help Forum at
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/

To help us give you detailed instructions, could you tell us what kind of
operating system you are using?

Is it a Windows machine?

Also, when you say that "the documents are still there but all else has
disappeared," what do you mean by that? Are the documents still on the
computer but you can't open them in OpenOffice, or are they missing from
your computer entirely?

Also, did you just install a new version of OpenOffice? What version are
you using?

Sorry to make you answer so many questions, but any additional information
you can provide us would help us be able to help you.

Now today All my letters, memos, family tree, etc. ARE JUST GONE the documents

To expand on Alexandro's reply, one should download only from
www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect to SourceForge servers where the files are stored. The
download will start automatically in about five seconds. Its integrity can be
checked using the methods setout in

OpenOffice is a free application - from any official site there is no charge
for it; such official sites are managed by load sharing from
www.openoffice.org/download
by SourceForge where the files are stored.

If you have paid for it, you should apply to the site from which you downloaded

Can you confirm you refer to the QuickOffice pro application?

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/quickoffice-pro/id889011512?mt=8

This mailing list is for the Apache OpenOffice project:
http://www.openoffice.org/ ; we do not sell anything; we have nothing to
do with the QuickOffice or QuickOffice pro application. They abuse our
support channels and claim affiliation with OpenOffice.

Please report the application in the app store where you bought it,
explaining that it purports a non-existing affiliation with the
OpenOffice project. This will help our effort to get that application
delisted.

If you referred to something else... well, just let us know, but we have
received several reports about QuickOffice recently and I assumed your
complaint was about QuickOffice too. Again, the Apache OpenOffice
project has nothing to do with that application and it does not sell
anything.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear this, but hopefully it's something that can be
solved. Could you give us a couple details?

1) What module were you using? Writer, Calc, Impress, Base? In doubt,
you can find screenshots here: http://www.openoffice.org/product/

2) What does "Register again" mean? Registration has been disabled in
OpenOffice for more than 3 years (even though some text still refers to
it). Do you mean the initial screen where you asked for your name, last
name and initials?

3) What do you mean by "gone"? Are you trying to open your files this
way? http://i.imgur.com/p5Qu6ru.png Then it's normal that you don't see
them listed, but if you search the file (knowing part of its title) from
the file search facilities offered by your version of Windows you will
be able to find it again.

Note that we prefer the "users" list (you used the "dev" list) for
support requests in general. Support requests are answered with higher
priority there.

Hi Steve,
The registration process is no longer active, so you can just ignore
that. A JRE is a Java Runtime Environment, which is available from
Java.com. It is needed to run a few of the features of OpenOffice. However,
if you haven't run into any other problems, you don't seem to need it. Your
older version of OpenOffice requires and old version of the JRE and I don't
recommend going through the trouble without a reason.
You should consider getting a more recent version of OpenOffice from
www.openoffice.org. That download process will redirect you to SourceForge
and the download will start automatically. There is no need to click on
anything at SourceForge.
Best regards,
Francis

It is very possible that your installed OpenOffice comes from an unapproved
site. Such sites unfortunately often include unwanted add-ons so we recommend
downloading only from
http://www.openoffice/org/download
which will redirect to SourceForge servers where the files are stored.

If in any doubt about the integrity of a downloaded file - either as a good
download or of the file as it left the developers - one can check this by using
the checksum method as set out here
http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

OpenOffice does not provide incremental uogrades, so you need to download the
entire package (about 140 MB, depending on platform)

You are mentioning three different websites:
- The main site http://www.openoffice.org ; years ago users could
register there, but this has now been discontinued
- Bugzilla https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ for reporting bugs; you can
create an account there to post bugs, and you can request a new password

- Forum https://forum.openoffice.org/ for discussing with other users;
you may want to start from that one and then report bugs in Bugzilla;
you can create an account or request a new password.

It seems the lost password option needs to be changed to have just the
email address.

If the above is not clear, please send the exact link to the web page

http://www.openoffice.org/download/ [or
http://www.openoffice.org/download/analyze.html], the dropdowns for operating
system, language and version are empty.
They are correctly shown if we use the Google Chrome browser.

Also, the "Click to select the table" button does nothing on the analyze page.

Regards,
Peter and Judy Jones

This is the second mail.

I have looked by the other languages and found the "Dutch
(Nederlands)" verion under "Finnish (Suomi)".

The downloads were now:
Apache_OpenOffice_4_1_1_Win_x86_install_nl_exe and
Apache_OpenOffice_4_1_1_Win_x86_langpack_nl_exe
These are the "Dutch (Nederlands) version which I have installed.
See the first and second picture.

I think this should be repaired for a better selectionmenu.

With kind regards,
Mr. L.J. Voets.

2014-08-22 Thread lj
When I am trying to download Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 in Dutch
(Nederlands) I had some strange things on finding the correct downloads.

I send four pictures made from my browser as documentation.

When I selected "Windows (EXE)""and "Dutch (Nederlands)" there was
only "4.1.0" as version option.

On the link "Download volledige installatie" (Download complete
installation) I would have downloaded:

Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Win_x86_install_zh-TW.exe
and that is not the Dutch (Nederlands) version. See the first
picture. It should end with "_nl.exe".
On the link "Download taalpakket" (Download languagepack) I have the
same problem. You would have downloaded:

Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Win_x86_langpack_zh-TW.exe
See the second picture.

In the second mail you see the solution I foumd for the language.
I had to split the mail in 2 mails because it was otherwise to big
for you to recieve.

With kind regards,
Mr. L.J. Voets.

Re: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-07-11 Thread Marcus (OOo)

To tell it short:
The virus alert is a false-positive. OpenOffice is not infected by a
virus but the anti-virus software has a wrong defection.

The following is an excerpt from an answer for another mail:

1. Disable the anti-virus software before downloading OpenOffice.
Only download from the official source:

http://www.openoffice.org/download/

2. For download, do not select open, select Save and place in a
memorable location (your Download folder, for example).

3. Use any of the procedures for verifying the Download. This code is
not signed, so you will have to use either the PGP or the MD5/SHA
verifications. See here for procedures:

http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

4. In your anti-virus software, see if there is a setting where it will
only remove or quarantine files after confirmation by you. This will let
you over-rule it in the future, verifying the file yourself instead.

it seems you don't have a problem with the website but with the software

Use the Built-In tool 'Navigator' - available in the Sidebar, in one of
the default toolbars and via F5
In the Navigator is a section for Bookmarks. Double-Click on it and the
text range on which the Bookmark is applied to is selected. Right-Click
opens a context menu - in a certain sub menu you find 'Delete' and
'Rename' for the Bookmark.

No need for an external tool from my point of view.

Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-07-03 Thread martin
Problem with bookmarks:
I am using the latest open office and experimenting with recreating some
of my files in odt format.

I am having a huge problem with editing a bookmark. I have put a couple
of them in the wrong place but I cannot find a facility to 'view
bookmarks' in order to see where the bookmark is and how I then edit it.

If i single click on the hyperlink it says 'ctrl-click to open hyperlink'
followed
by the bookmark name. Problem is if I hold ctrl down and click, it just
leads me to the position of the bookmark and I still can't see it to
change or delete it.

My OS is XP V 3.

Any idea?

Thanks

I'm not sure if you have downloaded the software already completely and
successfully, So, maybe it's a good idea to verify the integrity of the
download file. When you still have the file and know where it is saved
on your PC, you can read here [1] how to verify the file with hash values.

For your ongoing problems while installing or using the software you
could report the problem in our users mailing list [2] or support forums

If OpenOffice refuses to open, start TaskManager (Ctrl Shift Esc) and kill all
soffice processes shown on TM's Processes tab.
In /File /Save As, you should select (from File type dropdown) to save as ODF
text document .odt), and ensure that "Automatic file name extension" is
checked.

The selection boxes should not prevent you downloading a version. If your
computers are running Windows (or have the same operating system) you can
transfer the downloaded installation file from one to the other and install it
there.

If your documents are in WordPerfect format, you can transfer them to
OpenOffice format (.ODF/.odt) using a free service such as www.zamzar.com.
OpenOffice 4.1 will not read WordPerfect format, but the transfers via zamzar
will open, although, as with all transfers, they may need some fine tweaking.

Hello Roberta,
Yes. 4.1.0 is the latest version of Apache OpenOffice.
The 4.1.0 version should install in parallel to your 3.0 version. I
suggest keeping both versions active for a little while until you are sure
that 4.1.0 works well for you. There have been many improvements since 3.0
but it only takes one bug sometimes to cause a big problem.
The latest version can still save in the .doc format and its native
format is .odt.
Best regards,
Francis

well, sort of -

I have been using OpenOffice for some time and now have version 3.0. I did not
know that Apache has taken over OpenOffice, and I have a few questions:

Is Apache 4.1.0 the latest version of what I already have?

If I install Apache 4.1.0, will it upgrade my present 3.0 or will it install a
completely different system, so that I would have to delete the 3.0 myself?

I normally save my documents as .doc - is that still possible with 4.1.0?

Is a .doc usable (edit, etc) with 4.1.0?

My OpenOffice documents are .odt - does 4.1.0 still use that extension? If
not, is it still usable with 4.1.0?

In addition, I have a problem with printing envelopes: they print barcodes
across (up and down) the envelope face. I have worked with a printer
technician, and we cannot find any way that the printer could be adding the
barcodes. He suggested that I call OpenOffice; that is why I have discovered
Apache OpenOffice! If the answers to all my above questions are positive, I
will download the 4.1.0 and hope that the barcode problem will no longer be
present.

If the barcodes persist, I will go to Support, but before that happens, I need
to know the answers to these questions.

Thank you very much.

Since the list mailer has stripped your attachment, the best way to get
help with your problem is to use our issue reporting mechanism,
Bugzilla, and either add your attachment to an existing issue concerning
RTF imports (there are a number of these), or create a new issue and add
your file as an attachment.

I am on openSUSE 12.3 and opened the RTF file attached to this issue:
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121479

without any problems,

but the "copy" attached to this issue:
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=90120

comes up empty for me as well. Issue #90120 references additional issues
which you also want to take a look at.

Also, you may find additonal help on either the "users" mailing list
(instructions for subscribing --
http://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html#users-mailing-list-public

or by using our support forums -- https://forum.openoffice.org/

Sorry about your attachment being stripped, but, we really do need a
copy of it to help you further.

The only source from which one should download OpenOffice or any upgrade is
www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect to SourceForge servers.

This is correct. But David, could you please let us know what version
you were using? update32.services.openoffice.org is an old server used
to notify updates; it is now offline but it is important for us to know
what versions are affected, since we may want to redirect it.

Re: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-05-21 Thread Mathias Röllig

Hello Joan!

I have a new spread sheet for each month and between each
month I insert a sheet to paste a picture to, in total I use about 25
new sheets for this project so when I go to Edit - Header/footer and
type in the month of January this copies to every sheet, but what I
want is January for January, February for February and so on.

You have 2 options.

1) Create a page template for each month (with different headers) and
assign it to the right sheets.

2) Name the sheets with the month name and insert the sheet name as
field into the header.

Greetings, Mathias

I had originally tried typing in http://www.openoffice.org and got a page
cannot be found response. Then I googled to find out if your site was still
available, I found some links worked like the main address
https://www.openoffice.org but others like http://www.openoffice.org/download
and http://www.openoffice.org/product/draw.html did not. I see they are working
today regardless of having http or https so it may have already been fixed...

Hello,

I have found many search engines have http:// links to your site, the http://
links do not appear to be working at the moment. I am able to get around this
by modifying the URL to https:// but there are people out there who would have
no idea they need to do this to get to your site so I suggestion you put a

Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-05-13 Thread Joan Learmonth
Hi,
I am having a problem with Open Office 4.01.
I am busy creating a 2015 calendar using the spread sheet, when I go to the
Header and type in the month say January this goes across the whole twelve
months, go to February and repeat the process it changes everything to
February. I have spent hours looking on line how to resolve this and nothing
has worked.
Last year before the upgrade it workedso this is very frustrating, can
you email a solution to this problem?

I look forward to your reply,
Regards,
Joan Learmonth

Re: Reporting a problem with the OpenOffice website

2014-05-13 Thread Joan Learmonth
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your reply, sorry I haven't explained myself properly.
I have a new spread sheet for each month and between each month I insert a
sheet to paste a picture to, in total I use about 25 new sheets for this
project so when I go to Edit - Header/footer and type in the month of January
this copies to every sheet, but what I want is January for January, February
for February and so on.
I hope this is clearer.

Regards
Joan.
