Using OpenOffice Math on Windows 10 en_US, the formula "a cdot b + b" seems to
have the dot missing but no problem with the + spacing unless it is a kerning
problem on the italic "b". If I zoom in very closely, I see that a small dot
has been juxtaposed to the "a".
This appears to be a problem with font availability/substitution when Apache
OpenOffice 4.1.2 is installed on Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10.

The workaround is to perform the font substitution described in Comment 4
there. It seems to solve both problems described by Howard.
