Makes sense!
I will now enable it for my test builds...

For release versions we built without it.

If you want the Java unit tests to run, then enable JUnit.

Unit tests should always run, IMO. Testing during the build catches
problems as early as possible, and isolates bugs at a much finer level than
integration tests and graphical tests.

Thank you. Windows worked for me too, probably because I used
--without-junit and skipped the tests that way.

In 1828829 I committed a check for whether tests are present before trying
to compile them. I think it should fix this problem.

openoffice-linux64-nightly

2016-07-18 Thread Don Lewis
I'm not openoffice-linux64-nightly fail in bootstrap due to
LWP::Protocol::https being missing. I think it was before.

There is a MD5 checksum mismatch in commons-lang3-3.3-src.tar.gz.

The openssl download fails, but the error is "500 Can't connect to
www.openssl.org:443", so it looks like the http -> https redirect is
working.

There are also a bunch of connection failures to archive.apache.org port
80.

So the main suspect is AOO's custom messageFormatter. Maybe it throws an
exception that is internally caught by the buildbot software? Since we
don't have access (AFAIK) to the buildbot's stderr output we have to
guess. In revision 908989 I disabled our custom messageFormatter for
now. Let's see how if we can narrow down the problem in this way.

So my hypothesis that the custom message formatter caused the problem
was apparently correct: The messages are now sent again after I
(temporarily?) changed the mail notifier configuration to use the
default message formatter. The difference can be seen in [1] (default)
and [2] (custom). The default formatter produces a quite good message so
that I suggest to keep it as is. Fixing the original problem when access
to stderr or the bbot's internal log isn't available isn't worth the
trouble.

+1 for the easy way, using the default formatter

There were no changes in the openoffice buildbot script at that time,
but it seems the buildbot instance was updated from 0.8.6 to 0.8.8. And
the cms-build notifications were moved to another file, but that was a
while later.

Other asf-buildbot projects use a similiar MailNotifier setup and their
mailing works fine. The only major differences between them us and them
are that they don't use the messageFormatter option and they set the
MailNotifier mode to change instead of AOO's all.
