[OSM-dev] Sasha Maps on the iPhone

2009-09-30 Thread Alexander Maryanovsky
Hi all,

I've recently finished implementing iPhone support for my maps
library. You can check out the iPhone demo at
http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/iphonedemo/ (open on an iPhone
or iPod Touch). It works as smoothly as Google Lattitude, and some
things are even nicer (for example, it slides smoothly into the
integer zoom when you pinch instead of snapping to it). Gestures:

* Drag to drag (no inertia though).
* Double-tap to zoom in and recenter.
* Two-finger tap to zoom out.
* Pinch to zoom in/out.

You can also drag the smiley around.

The main page is at http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/

Enjoy :-),
Alexander (aka Sasha) Maryanovsky

I've significantly improved the responsiveness/smoothness. It's now
on-par with Google Latitude (some things are even better, like
animated zoom), and is close to the performance of the native iPhone
maps application.

Thanks, I've now implemented support for OSM maps. You can see a demo
 at http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/osm/

My non-scientific experimentation shows that my maps are faster at at
 least panning :-)

 Alexander (aka Sasha) Maryanovsky.

P.S. Do I need to put a copyright notice on that page (for the map
data)? If so, what is it?

If course you have to. You need to state that it's data from the OSM
project and that it's licenced CC-By-SA preferably with a link to the
full license.

2009-06-02 Thread Alexander Maryanovsky
Hi all.

I've developed a mapping client library (like Slippy Map) in GWT
(Google's Java-to-Javascript compiler/toolkit). It has several
advantages over Slippy Map, and I was wondering what you think about
it, and about possible collaborations.
The main page of Sasha Maps is at
http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/ and a small demo with Google's
tiles is at http://www.maryanovsky.com/sasha/maps/demo/

Also, if someone could point me to the description of OpenStreetMaps'
tile protocol, I could implement it and put up a demo using your
tiles.

Thanks,
Alexander (aka Sasha) Maryanovsky.
