So this was a whoops when committing a typo fix, but I think this same
code was submitted in a patch a while ago and I was testing it. Any
comments on this approach?

it was subsequently adjusted later on in the thread. I think it's a
good idea, and should have been done 6 months ago when it came up the
first time.

This version of Apache::Dispatch now has a default namespace of
Apache2::Dispatch, along with some fixes for installing seamlessly on
mp1 and mp2.
It also has a great example section in the Makefile.PL on how to use
Apache::Bootstrap to painlessly support your Apache::* and Apache2::*
modules on p
