Re: [DISCUSS] First Apache release

Hi,

I think the time is ripe for us to cut the first Apache release.
Apart from a few fixes, I would like to include the new Flink integration.
If you would like something else to be included, this is the right place.

I volunteer to be the release manager for this round.

I have a few questions on the prerequisites for the release that maybe our
mentors might answer:

1) Do we need to fix the namespace of the source to an org.apache.* one?
You don't have to, but in my opinion this is great opportunity to do
it. After a release it's harder because you'll (hopefully) have users
that don't want you to change it. I realize you may already have users
who don't want the change, but moving to Apache is a natural boundary
that makes it easier to get the change done.

2) Do we need to change the artifacts produced to be apache compliant?
In what way? The licensing, code grants, etc. certainly need to be
dealt with.

3) Is there a guide to help cutting the release?

Alan.

Thanks,

Re: CFP for Dataworks Summit Sydney

2017-05-08 Thread Alan Gates
For a limited number of applicants Apache does offer travel assistance for
ApacheCon and Apache BigData, see [1] for details.  But as the Dataworks Summit
is hosted by Hortonworks, the Apache assistance doesn't apply.  Hortonworks
does not offer any travel assistance, though registration to the conference is
free if your talk is accepted.

Hello PMCs.

Please could you forward on the below email to your dev and user lists.

Thanks

Gav…

The Travel Assistance Committee (TAC) are pleased to announce that travel
assistance applications for ApacheCon NA 2018 are now open!

We will be supporting ApacheCon NA Montreal, Canada on 24th - 29th
September 2018

TAC exists to help those that would like to attend ApacheCon events, but
are unable to do so for financial reasons.
For more info on this years applications and qualifying criteria, please
visit the TAC website at < http://www.apache.org/travel/ >. Applications
are now open and will close 1st May.

*Important*: Applications close on May 1st, 2018. Applicants have until the
closing date above to submit their applications (which should contain as
much supporting material as required to efficiently and accurately process
their request), this will enable TAC to announce successful awards shortly
afterwards.

As usual, TAC expects to deal with a range of applications from a diverse
range of backgrounds. We therefore encourage (as always) anyone thinking
about sending in an application to do so ASAP.
We look forward to greeting many of you in Montreal

Kind Regards,
Gavin - (On behalf of the Travel Assistance Committee)

Re: Time to Retire SAMOA from Incubation?

2019-06-03 Thread Alan Gates
I agree that we need to see activity in the podling very soon or move
towards retirement. Mentors have brought up concerns before in Sept 2018
[1], March 2018 [2], December 2017 [3], March 2017 [4], and December 2016
[5]. Should we ask them to report again next month and if we don't see
strong indications of progress move towards retirement?

Re: [VOTE] Release SAMOA 0.5.0 (incubating) RC1

I haven't had a chance to finish reviewing this yet, but one I thing I
noticed off the bat is that you used sha1 and md5 to sign it. Both of
those are deprecated. You should be using sha256 or sha512. See
https://www.apache.org/dev/release-signing.html

Stepping down as a mentor

2020-06-04 Thread Alan Gates
Samoa team, it's time for me to step down from the Incubator PMC, which
means I need to step down from mentoring Samoa. Since I'm currently your
only mentor, I will work with others on the IPMC to find you a mentor
before I officially step down.

Thank you for having me as a mentor. I'm hopeful that with your recent new
additions to the community and a new release that your momentum is moving
in the right direction.

Alan.
