I've been playing with Struts 2 and portlets lately, so I took the time
to create a couple of simple portlet archetypes to make it easier to
start a Struts 2 portlet. The short of it is I'm very pleased with how
easy it is to create a portlet, especially when combined with the
codebehind plugin.
In addition to a blank portlet archetype, I created a database portlet
archetype, which demonstrates a portlet that queries, caches, and
returns the contents of a database table using Spring. I was happily
able to do all this with 2.0.3, which bodes well for its quality vote.
While I was at it, I improved the portlet example application to run
correctly (save the ajax examples) on Liferay, at least.
For more info, see the improved archetypes page:
http://cwiki.apache.org/WW/struts-maven-archetypes.html
and eventually:
http://struts.apache.org/2.x/docs/struts-maven-archetypes.html
I plan to run all archetypes through release votes once we finish the
2.0.3 vote.
