New release?

2019-01-22 Thread Jaikiran Pai
It's been some months now since our last 1.9.x and 1.10.x Ant releases.
During that period, we have added some good number of fixes and
enhancements to both these versions upstream. Some of the users (in
bugzilla discussions) have asked if we can do a release sooner to get
these fixes. As far as I know, there isn't anything pending that needs
to go into this release. Is there any?

Should we do a new release in the upcoming weeks?

There have been other bug fixes too, but I wasn't sure if you were
interested in some other unresolved issue and hence asked that question.

I'm almost in the final phases of getting the junitlauncher task to
support fork mode as well as better handling of classpath for 1.10.x
version. I hope to send out a PR for review this week and if it gets
accepted then I don't have anything else pending from a release point of
view.

I remember it used to be quite labor intensive, doing a release, so i
can understand if it wont be done now.

New Release(s)?

2018-02-18 Thread Stefan Bodewig
Hi all

https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=62086 is a serious
regression in 1.10.2 and it has been fixed in master by now. The 1.9.x
branch has never been affected.

By now I have reviewed all changes of the really big commit that also
caused the regression. I found a few more places that needed fixes, but
most of them were in little used parts of Ant. I also found the same
refactoring commit fixed issues with the JAI types[1] and back-ported
them to 1.9.x - but doubt it is important as nobody has ever complained
so far.

We also probably fixed
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=62076 in both branches
and this one has explicitly been reported against 1.9.x. I'll add a few
tests to both branches before closing that.

I think we should release 1.10.3 soon - with or without the junit5 task
- but am unsure about 1.9.11. What do you think? I'd volunteer to create
only a 1.10 release but also to do both at the same time.

Stefan

[1] the "text" image operation completely ignored the bold and italic
attributes - and some of the draw operations probably didn't work
properly if they contained additional transformations and additional
draw operations as nested elements.

As you can see via my last commits, I simplified again the release process. The
release notes are not written anymore in the README, CHANGES and RELEASE_NOTES
files, but only in the doc/release-notes.html file.

See the current status there:
http://ant.apache.org/ivy/history/trunk/release-notes.html

See also the update release process:
http://ant.apache.org/ivy/history/trunk/dev/makerelease.html

I think I will actually do a release this week-end.

I understand the allusion above. I had written about creating an ant
task based on openpgp to generate the
signature files. Now that the commons-dev and maven guys have helped me
building openpgp, I might be able
to write the ant task to sign a binary. I will make a bug report and
hopefully someone will commit it.

This might not happen immediately, because I will travel back to Europe
on Thursday and stay with my family 10 days.

Don't know, I've never found any use for that myself, but we do it for
Ant's core. Could do it for the final release.

In the project where I am working, we are using a lot of third party libraries,
and we plan to use manifest informations such as Implementation-Vendor,
Implementation-Title and Implementation-Version to generate automatically a
report about which third party libs we use.

Without these informations, you would have to do a lot of research to answer
the question : where does foo.jar come from ?
