You might wonder why the --oldest-fraction is necessary when one can use
--user-defined and some OS level scripting.

Just my random thoughts as an outsider while trying to look at this thread
months after the fact. I could have missed some details along the way and
might not quite understand the final proposal.
On this topic in general, it seems a bit odd to me to have support / fixes
for a release defined
left in limbo with no
resolution is worse than being told "no", especially for new contributors.
