Yeah I get that from the perspective of users not running on Debian etc. However we support Debian and RHEL / building packages for that and major OS releases do not happen often so I was thinking it is somehow natural to wait for it. I do not mind ultimately either way though, it is just tempting to wait a bit. I am wondering what the opinions of others are. I'm a Debian user myself, but I don't think it's a good idea to have our release predicated upon any other project's release. That's a slippery slope and it doesn't really seem right to delay 5.0.5 for non-Debian users who might want some fix that 5.0.5 has sooner. There is Debian 13 (Trixie) planned to be released on 9th August. Could we wait one more week and be sure that 5.0.5 also runs smoothly on that? In case (albeit improbably, I believe) something is wrong with it, we will have 5.0.5 out broken on 13. It does not make rushing that when 13 is around the corner and 5.0.4 was released so long ago anyway ... Thoughts? During evaluation / testing what was staged, I have identified (1) to be a blocker as source artifacts are not buildable because of that. We need to fix 20802 by committing that 5.0 (and trunk) and re-stage. The PR is up.
