It is absolutely a pain and its a bit unfortunate its still in use. this
was the longest it took me to update 4 lines in a repo that I can remember.
That said, it has been committed. I don't see it yet reflected on the live
page but I assume (hope) there is some amount of auto-deployment. Otherwise
let me know and I will take the steps necessary. Mick, there was also some
discussion on if we need to merge the PR ahead of the repo transfer. From
what I can tell those transfers have occurred before those merges but
whatever is required i can click the button before or after as afaik the PR
is ready to go

Committed r1925506

r1925506 = 1822b63d67915a47cf46c96926202a20cd4e9ea5 (refs/remotes/git-svn)
No changes between fa8ff009c5d9fb182c9eeda179bed172dbb014e5 and

I’m working on updating the date in the form. Some feedback I plan to
eventually give: it took me literally 12 hours (that’s not an
exaggeration) to clone the ASF Infra repo (on a good internet connection)
to make this one line change and that took the free time I had over the
weekend for this.

To be fair I used git-svn so it could’ve been related and Jon later pointed
out maybe I could do a shallow clone. Unfortunate side effect of using SVN
but I am working on it.

This is the vote thread, I was only correcting Dave. This is the vote
thread for the Cassandra PMC, but for the IPMC (that's been cc'd) only a
lazy consensus is required. A link to this thread will need to be added to
the IP Clearance form (see its very last box).

This thread already has the three binding votes from the Cassandra PMC it
needs, but my veto needs to be addressed (which is just small details of
process, and strictly speaking only blocking the gh transfer).

Re: [VOTE][IP CLEARANCE] easy-cass-stress

2025-05-05 Thread Mick Semb Wever
Apologies for coming in late on this one.

+1 in general, but… -1 on the gh transfer (see below), and a few questions
seeking clarification.

Dave, is your comment about lazy-consensus applicable to both the project's
PMC or the IPMC (Incubator PMC's role on this thread) ? My understanding
is that the PMC must still formally vote (requires 3 binding and no vetos)
and the IPMC just needs visibility (lazy). To be specific, the PMC vote
requirements is on us, and my opinion is that importing a new codebase and
repository always deserves a proper vote by us (even in situations like
this where we are generally confident of the outcome based on previous
discussions).

Furthermore, this text in https://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/
indicates the form's checklist must be complete first.
"Once a PMC directly checks-in a filled-out short form, the Incubator PMC
will need to approve the paper work after which point the receiving PMC is
free to import the code."

These are somewhat confirmed by steps (6) and (7) on this page:
https://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/ip-clearance-template.html

This IP Clearance form is not yet completed. Please fill out the data
column in the form to indicate all steps have been done.

They are:
 - Check and make sure that the files that have been donated have been
updated to reflect the new ASF copyright.
 - Check and make sure that for all items included with the distribution
that is not under the Apache license, we have the right to combine with
Apache-licensed code and redistribute.
 - Check and make sure that all items depended upon by the project is
covered by one or more of the following approved licenses: Apache, BSD,
Artistic, MIT/X, MIT/W3C, MPL 1.1, or something with essentially the same
terms.

My understanding is the latter two points have been done, and the license
headers and the LICENSE and NOTICE stuff will land with
https://github.com/rustyrazorblade/cassandra-easy-stress/pull/41

And IIRC that PR needs to be merged before asking infra to transfer the
repo. (only reason for my -1 on the transfer)

Please vote on the acceptance of the easy-cass-stress (to be renamed
 cassandra-stress) and its IP Clearance:

 https://incubator.apache.org/ip-clearance/cassandra-easy-cass-stress.html

All consent from original authors of the donation, and tracking of
 collected CLAs, is found in

 https://github.com/rustyrazorblade/easy-cass-stress/pull/41/files and

 https://delicate-tail-8c0.notion.site/easy-cass-stress-submission-141ac849cc9d80a4972cc8623aa54667

These do not all require acknowledgement before the vote.

The code is prepared for donation at
 https://github.com/rustyrazorblade/easy-cass-stress

Once this vote passes we will request ASF Infra to move the
 rustyrazorblade/easy-cass-stress as-is to apache/cassandra-stress. The main
branch and gh-pages branches, all tags, and all history, will be kept. The
main branch will continue to be named main.

PMC members, please check carefully the IP Clearance requirements
 before voting.

The vote will be open for 72 hours (or longer). Votes by PMC members

are considered binding. A vote passes if there are at least three
 binding +1s and no -1's.

 Thanks,

 Jordan

I've renamed the repo to cassandra-easy-stress and filed INFRA-26785 to
initiate the transfer.

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-26785

Will update here when it's moved over.

+1, open to other names, cassandra-easy-stress is fine with me. I do
think we should change it to avoid confusion though.

The code is prepared for donation at

>
For anyone else trying to find it, the code that is prepped with proper
licenses etc for donation is in
https://github.com/rustyrazorblade/easy-cass-stress/tree/jwest/donation_prep
(the
branch from PR 41) not in main.

The code in the donation_prep branch looks good to me.
The collected CLAs look good.

Re: [VOTE][IP CLEARANCE] easy-cass-stress

2025-04-30 Thread Miklosovic, Stefan via dev
cassandra-easy-stress maybe?

Seems to be minimal divergence from easy-cass-stress and will be aligned with
cassandra-analytics and cassandra-sidecar while not clashing with
cassandra-stress. (and what is going to be donated is indeed something _easier_
than the legacy stress tool, right?)

Not a big deal, but renaming this project to cassandra-stress could potentially
confuse users with legacy (in-tree) cassandra-stress, since this is the name
referred to in old documentation. Not sure what would be a more appropriate
name though, just keep easy-cass-stress perhaps?
