2024-11-04 Thread Amogh Jahagirdar
Thanks for identifying this issue and bringing it up here Cheng, that's
really appreciated! @Russell Spitzer I do think
it is an issue, if I understand the issue correctly, there are certain
cases in 1.14.3 where we may not be reading the dictionary filter in its
entirety, leading to correctness issues/data loss Concretely, I see we'd
exercise that path in ParquetDictionaryRowGroupFilter when doing
dictionaries.readDictionaryPage and in ParquetUtil#readDictionaryPage but
someone else please double check my read of it.

I'd advocate for going back to Parquet 1.13.1 and cutting another release?

Thanks,

Verified signature, checksum, license. Did Flink SQL local testing with the

Didn't run build because Azure FileIO testing requires Docker environment.

+1 (non-binding)
Checked the following:

  *   Verified the signatures
  *   Verified the checksums
  *   Verified the license documentation
  * Verified the iceberg spark release binary by downloading the runtime jar
from the 1.7.0 release repo. Ran a basic iceberg workflow (DDL, DML, DQL) using
OSS Spark 3.5 (with scala 2.12).

Thanks Russell for managing the release!

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Iceberg 1.7.0 RC0

2024-10-31 Thread Ajantha Bhat
Hi Russell,

The LICENSE and NOTICE issue turned out to be a false positive. When I used
the Archive Utility app on Mac to unzip, it automatically overwrote
identical files without any prompts. However, using the command line to
unzip provided a prompt for identical files.
I can confirm both the files exist. Nothing to fix.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Iceberg 1.7.0 RC0

2024-10-30 Thread Russell Spitzer
Technically those binaries are not the release. Only the source is the
release and those binaries are provided as a convenience, although that
said we should probably fix it.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Iceberg 1.7.0 RC0

2024-10-30 Thread Ajantha Bhat
Hi Russell,
Thanks for working on the release.

I just found the issue[1] that none of the Iceberg runtime jars are
including the LICENSE and NOTICE from the respective module directory. It
always only packs the LICENSE and NOTICE from the root directory.
This is observed even in the old releases like 1.5.0.

 Hey Y'all,

 I propose that we release the following RC as the official Apache
 Iceberg 1.7.0 release.

 The commit ID is 91e04c9c88b63dc01d6c8e69dfdc8cd27ee811cc
 * This corresponds to the tag: apache-iceberg-1.7.0-rc0
 * https://github.com/apache/iceberg/commits/apache-iceberg-1.7.0-rc0
 *
 https://github.com/apache/iceberg/tree/91e04c9c88b63dc01d6c8e69dfdc8cd27ee811cc

 The release tarball, signature, and checksums are here:
 *
 https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/iceberg/apache-iceberg-1.7.0-rc0

 You can find the KEYS file here:
 * https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/iceberg/KEYS

 Convenience binary artifacts are staged on Nexus. The Maven repository
 URL is:
 * https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapacheiceberg-
 /

 Please download, verify, and test.

 Please vote in the next 72 hours.

 [ ] +1 Release this as Apache Iceberg 1.7.0
 [ ] +0
 [ ] -1 Do not release this because...

 Only PMC members have binding votes, but other community members are
 encouraged to cast
 non-binding votes. This vote will pass if there are 3 binding +1 votes
 and more binding
 +1 votes than -1 votes.

Thanks Russell for making the release.
Not a blocker but I really wish this doc change[1] can be included into
1.7.0.
