Apparently this issue only happened with my own build. It does not occur with
the official 418 RC3 build compiled by Jim

I always install with apt when I test on Ubuntu:
$ sudo apt install ./*.deb ./desktop-integration/*.deb
but I think apt is the recommended tool "only" since Ubuntu 16.04,
