I've just tried the very thing and it worked. Maybe you simply mistyped your query. What you wrote is either text, not a number, as it contains a non-numerical symbol, or a formatted figure. If it's a formatted figure, formatted as currency, type the number in the query, without the pound symbol, i.e. -83.04.

And, by the way, you may want to remember the NetIQuette! ;)
