Until someone develops that extension, you can always use the fantastic,
distraction free FocusWriter
https://gottcode.org/focuswriter/
Just enable the typewriter sounds under Settings > Preferences > General >
Typewriter sounds
For an added nostalgia, under Settings > Themes, switch to Old School ;)

Hi Matthias, thanks for that tip. :-)

I just tried it out on Ubuntu 18.04 (with Gnome, on another computer)
and haven't got it working there either, although I will keep trying and
will post a bug report if it doesn't work out.

Anyway, I guess that's OT for this list. :-)

Lee, that's another cool tip. :-) After the IBM 92, I was soon typing on
an IBM PC (8088) and that was indeed a good keyboard - and totally
unbreakable. Those guys really built the hardware to last! :-)

Anyway, like I originally said, what a cool idea about the typewriter
sounds. :-)

All the best,

Dave

Type "bucklespring.buckle" on the commandline and it should work... ;-)

However, I am not sure if snaps work on Ubuntu Studio.

But the idea is really lovely. Personally, I learned to type on an IBM
92. :-D

If someone is willing to create such an extension, why not. ;-)
But we do not have any Influence on that.

It would be yet a nicer writing experience.

Meanwhile (and if you are using Ubuntu) I recommend this:

OK, not a typewriter, but an IBM Model M keyboard [1]. However, it
sounds similar! ;-)

If keyboard sfx emulator is not working, Unicomp bought IBM's keyboard
business, you can buy a new "IBM" keyboard, no emulator needed. They
optionally address issues like modern (USB) connector and the Windows
and Office keys.

Hello,

I hope this is getting throught to your 'Suggestions Box':

I always thought, it would be nice to have an optional /*audio add-on*/
for the Open Office Writer which gives out the Clatter, Ping! Crrk!
Cachunk! (when lifting to the Shift function) etc. of a /*typewriter*/.

It would be yet a nicer writing experience.
