I added a new feature to my osm-history-renderer/-importer that allows
you to handle much larger areas, by using the RAM more efficiently. In
theoriy it should be possible wo import a fill history planet with ~32GB
of RAM.

I have problems getting Tirex up and running. Rendering maps with mapnik
and render works fine.
I use tirex from svn and mapnik version 2.1.0.

thank you for your answer.
I tried setting both parameters, but nothing changed. I'm sure i set it
to the right directory. It's confusing because I don't know if the font
error or the python.input error is more worse.

Please have a look at the public transport plugin, in class
RoutePatternAction, at lines 1806-1819.
This does exactly the desired. I agree it would bencessary to refactor the
code.
