I found a bug in the xmlbeans build that I had accidentally added, that meant
some important classes were being omitted from the xmlbeans jar.

I rebuilt my xmlbeans 3.0.0 candidate and removed the older 2.7.0-rc1
candidate.

I agree, running local unit tests (if there are any?) and our full set of
tests that we do for POI releases should suffice for an initial release.
A plus would be to add a few tests in POI for the things that should
work/be fixed with the new release.

I think there's been a reasonable consensus on:
A +1
B: 1.6
C: +1
The 2.7.0-rc1 candidate is pretty close to what I would like to release. I
can produce a new version as a candidate for 3.0.0.
I have been using a very similar XMLBeans code base in production
applications for close to a year
A +1
B: 1.6
C: +1
I would not do too large jumps in Java version here for now, better to get
out a first release done by POI and then continue from there.

Technical there's no need for upgrading to 1.8 and I haven't investigated which
projects depend on XmlBeans and have already upgraded to 1.8. If we choose Java
1.6 for XmlBeans 3.0.0, we will hardly soon switch to Java 1.8.
I'm happy that POI has switched to 1.8, but
