Alan Conway resolved PROTON-1519.

    Resolution: Fixed

Fix based on PR 111 from  [~Fryguy], extended to eliminate Fixnum/Bignum 
entirely from the codebase so we have consistent code using the Integer class 
only for all ruby versions.
