The project's Jira link gets nowhere, last release is 2 years ago, and
xmlbeans chokes on Upper Planes of UNICODE with an exception starting with:

java.io.CharConversionException: Characters larger than 4 bytes are not
supported: byte 0x82 implies a length of more than 4 bytes

It's AD 2014, Twitter users are frantically using the emojies mapped by the
Upper Planes, everybody and their dog (even MySQL, half-baked as they do it
in 5.x) started to do something about those characters.

I haven't seen any serious activity from this project since it got
rebooted about six months ago.

Do we need to close this down?  There's no shame in that if that is
the case, but it doesn't appear to be serving much of a purpose now.
