IIRC we do have various packages that have to do this. In this particular case, maybe it's possible to add back the symbols so that the ABI is preserved. We need a soname bump and one point anyway to address the symbol collisions between json-c, json-glib, and jansson. The json-c/json-glib collisions actually materialize in existing binaries. Removing some symbols seems kind of unavoidable, but it is obviously best to bundle all this into a single soname bump. -- Florian Weimer / Red Hat Product Security -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

Re: Dracut, dmsquash, and overlays
You're not quite right about how the overlay works. The default in-memory overlay is just 512MB. And the device-mapper docs note that if it fills up the snapshot will become useless and be disabled, returning errors.[1]. You should also note that the overlay is a block-level snapshot - so any changes to existing files or filesystem metadata will cause data to be written to the overlay. Furthermore, the default chunk size is 4kb - so any change less than 4kb will take 4kb of space. After hitting a wall several times today, I began to see what you're talking about here. ;) I assume you're using filesystem images 'cuz you don't have a reliable network connection (otherwise you'd probably be using NFS or iSCSI or something)? The network connection is reliable, but I'm working with thousands of nodes that need a largely stateless system with only a few persistent items. Since your systems have lots of RAM, why not just use a regular ext4 filesystem image as your root filesystem? Then you don't need to worry about blowing up the overlay at all. Are you suggesting an ext4 r/w filesystem stored in RAM? I haven't seen how to do that in dracut with the existing scripts. If you need compression to save RAM: why not use a squashfs image directly, and mount/bind a tmpfs to the places you'll be writing data? I'd be interested in that for sure but the dmsquash module in dracut seems to require a real ext/btrfs/xfs filesystem for device mapper. I couldn't find a way to boot a plain squashfs with a filesystem in it. Is there a particular reason you need to use dmsquash-live, or is this just a case of the hammer making all your problems look like nails? My goal is to live boot our servers since the majority of our systems would be stateless. Being able to reboot into a known good, tested state would be advantageous. I've worked with Debian's Live Systems project[1] and their strategy is to mount a squashfs read only but then use aufs to provide a writeable filesystem overlay. It's handy since you can fill up the overlay without causing the snapshot to overflow. However, AUFS isn't in the upstream kernel and that makes things a bit challenging. It sounds like oVirt node does a lot of what you need and might be a good starting point, it's basically a minimal KVM plus associated userspace hypervisor. It can be booted as a live image, pxe boot or installed. http://www.ovirt.org/Category:Node http://www.ovirt.org/Node_Building http://www.ovirt.org/Node_PXE Peter -- devel mailing list devel@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/devel Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct

I will fix these errors, compare against some other recent SRPMs, and get it in shape before requesting formal review. Just a couple more quick questions: For the Source0 URL, since this project is hosted on Github, the URL that leads to the tar.gz file doesn't contain the tar file name (it is https://github.com/derekp7/snebu/tarball/master;, which ends up creating the tar.gz file name on the fly through HTTP header / javascript magic). I will address this by attaching an exported copy of the tar.gz file as a binary asset to the Github progject release. Also, in the spec file, the release is 1%{?dist} so that is uses the dist macro to fill in automatically. But I'd like for the SRPM file to be release agnostic (so I don't have to host one for each release of Fedora). If I rename the .src.rpm file to not include fc19, then rpmlint complains. Is there a proper way to build the SRPM so that the binary RPMS built from it use the %{?dist} macro, but the SRPM is release agnostic? Or should I just one SRPM for the most current Fedora release? There was mention of dropping product specific snippets in /usr/lib/os-release.d/ as one solution. Does it have to be any more complex than the approach used by systemd? If fedora-release were to drop all product specific snippets in /usr/lib/os-release.d/, then a system admin could use a symbolic link in /etc/os-release.d to flag which product (or no product) he wanted installed. Similar to: So, one catch is that os-release.d, with snippets, isn't currently supported by the upstream standard. (If there is work to make it so, awesome.) And it's not completely trivial, because either /etc/os-release needs to be regenerated on change to the .d snippets, or else software which reads that file (like agetty) needs to be updated to follow the .d directory too. But also, ideally, the contents of /etc/os-release aren't just notes -- they actually reflect the state of the system. Having it managed by RPM (or some higher-level tool, theoretically) is helpful there. Here: Then, if a system admin wanted to change the box to a server, or to a non-productized box, he could simply change the symbolic link to: /etc/os-release.d/product - /usr/lib/os-release.d/server.product the _name_ has changed, but you don't necessarily have any of the actual software (either installed or running) that makes it Fedora Server. [Test-Announce] 2014-07-30 @ ** 16:00 UTC ** - F21 Blocker Review #4
# F21 Blocker Review meeting #4 # Date: 2014-07-30 # Time: 16:00 UTC (12:00 EDT, 09:00 PDT) # Location: #fedora-blocker-review on irc.freenode.net We've got another blocker meeting coming up this week. As of today there are 2 proposed blockers and 1 proposed FE for F21 Alpha (same as last week). The full list can be found here: https://qa.fedoraproject.org/blockerbugs/milestone/21/alpha/buglist We'll be evaluating these bugs to see if they violate the Alpha Release Criteria and warrant the blocking of a release if they're not fixed. Information on the release criteria for F21 can be found on the wiki [0]. Product specific plans are still being solidified, but that should be sorted quickly. Problems with Ghostscript license switched to AGPL?
Hi, I know this is old news, but Ghostscript switched to AGPL with version 9.07 (Feb 2013). I was not able to find any announcement of this on the Fedora lists. Fedora 18 was the last release with the non-AGPL Ghostscript. This is a surprise, because since Fedora 19 we've possibly introduced a fairly large end-user burden on AGPL compliance, with ghostscript being rather deep in the dependency tree. Here are just a few of the affected packages by way of repoquery --whatrequires --recursive ghostscript: ImageMagick-0:6.8.6.3-4.fc20.x86_64 R-0:3.1.0-5.fc20.x86_64 cups-1:1.7.4-1.fc20.x86_64 ejabberd-0:2.1.13-7.fc20.x86_64 emacs-1:24.3-17.fc20.x86_64 erlang-0:R16B-03.7.fc20.x86_64 gimp-2:2.8.10-4.fc20.x86_64 graphviz-0:2.34.0-8.fc20.x86_64 libguestfs-1:1.26.5-1.fc20.x86_64 mediawiki-0:1.21.11-1.fc20.noarch openstack-nova-0:2013.2.3-2.fc20.noarch redhat-lsb-0:4.1-21.fc20.x86_64 vips-0:7.36.5-1.fc20.x86_64 Is seems like a problem that these packages depend on an AGPL package. This list suggests to me that running a print server (cups) or XMPP server (ejabberd) would put a burden on me to comply with AGPL. Am I misunderstanding something? My first reaction would be to fork ghostscript at a pre-AGPL version at this point. Does this seem remotely feasible? Is there a better option? (Also, there is another AGPL package, libquvi, which notably has nautilus and other packages as depending on it. But that's a separate issue.) The GNU C Library will be rebased in F21 to match glibc 2.20.
Fedora, This is a reminder that the glibc team will be rebasing glibc in F21 to match glibc 2.20. The plan remains largely as was written here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/GLIBC220 Only glibc 2.20 has ABI guarantees, and therefore we will move to 2.20 before F21 goes to GA to ensure that F21 has a strong ABI guarantee. I expect this to be the process forever going forward: * Rawhide tracks glibc master. * Fedora release is branched from Rawhide. * glibc release is made upstream. * Fedora branch is rebased on glibc upstream release to include ABI guarantees. * Fedora release goes GA. The changes in the rebase should be minor since we've been tracking master the whole time. Rawhide soname version bumps on evolution-data-server and evolution packages
Hello, I'm going to update evolution packages (evolution-data-server, evolution, evolution-ews and evolution-mapi) in rawhide to their 3.13.4 versions during today, which brings soname version bumps in evolution-data-server and evolution. I'll take care of rebuilds where needed (and I have commit rights for). There are also large changes in 3.13.4, in evolution-data-server are used subprocesses for backends and evolution uses webkit-based composer. Please use GNOME's bugzilla [1] for any issue you might find with these. [Bug 1122956] Cannot install amavisd-new in CentOS-7
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1122956 --- Comment #4 from Timothy Murphy gayle...@eircom.net --- Please look more carefully at what I said in (1) above. The package perl-Unix-Syslog, which amavisd-new required, was not in epel. I don't like mixing Epel and Rpmforge, and don't have rpmforge.repo enabled, but in this case it appeared necessary to enable it temporarily to get this package. As to the confusion with clamd/clamav-server, it is possible that the site yum found for me is not up-to-date. I will try again tomorrow, and see if I have better luck. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. Re: Introducing Python 3.5 nightly builds for Fedora
- Original Message - On 07/03/2014 11:55 PM, Miro Hrončok wrote: Other than the packaging reasons: Fedora might attract Python enthusiasts and developers as it is most likely the only Linux distro that has development version of Python packaged nightly. Developers and powerusers can play with new features committed yesterday just by doing `dnf update`. I actually mentioned this in my recent SciPy keynote, on the grounds that scientists may want to play around with the new matrix multiplication operator without having to build Python from source :) Yeah, I saw that one on YouTube. Good talk :) Actually, I'd like to advertise this even more, e.g. on some of Python upstream mailing list - on the other hand, I don't want to look like I'm spamming everyone needlessly... What do you think would be the best place to announce this? python-announce-list? Re: Python 2.7 SSL upgrade patch available for testing
- Original Message - PEP 466 approved bring the core Python 2 network security infrastructure up to speed with the modern internet. Alex Gaynor has provided a draft patch of the most complex part of that PEP, backporting the bulk of the Python 3.4 SSL module to Python 2.7: http://bugs.python.org/issue21308#msg223895 This is also the part of the PEP most likely to break things, so figuring out a way to test it in Fedora before it makes it into an upstream CPython release would be a good idea... We could create a copr repo where we would rebuild python (in an SCL?) with these patches and then we'd rebuild some modules that use ssl - to see if the tests pass and if they're actually usable. The disadvantage of this approach is that it just takes lots of time to implement... Or, if we're feeling lucky, we can just build Python with these patches in rawhide and see if something breaks :) That's easy and fast (assuming everything works fine). I'd really love to help here, but I really can't spare enough time to do it properly in Copr as noted above. So the question is, are we feeling lucky? :) I'd say yes, since rawhide has just recently become future Fedora 22 and not much is going on in there right now. If we break something, we can just revert it quickly and everything will be fine. Is someone strictly against this or shall I move on with patching our rawhide Python?
