Review swaps

2016-11-22 Thread Ben Rosser
Anyone interested in review swaps? I have four smallish packages in the
queue, would be happy to take other smallish packages in exchange:

* quassel-irssi: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1374899

* golang-github-knieriem-markdown:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1396636

* nodejs-int64-buffer: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1397620

* nodejs-qtdatastream: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1397621
(depends on nodejs-int64-buffer)

F24 GStreamer zero day

2016-11-22 Thread Michael Catanzaro
Hi,

Is anybody working on fixing [1]?

The exploit is a little impractical in that it only works if you have
not updated any F24 base packages except GStreamer, but we should still
fix it. I don't see any GStreamer updates in bodhi yet.

And I'm thrilled to say that my patch to get GSSAPI support into Koji has been
merged a few hours ago!
Once the Fedora package has been updated (which I hope happens sometime very
soon), it should all work
magically out of the box. The server side is already live on our staging
instance, and will go live on production
in the next few days:

[puiterwijk@localhost puiterwijk]$ stg-koji hello
jó napot, puiterwijk!

Or just use rpm.

OK, I went ahead and implemented the above for (1) as discussed. I'd
appreciate help with testing this is it now makes gnome-software in F23
start offering F23->F25 upgrades.

This is a change from current storage setup? Right now, containers go in the
docker volume, but images do not. If we can do that, it would be worth having
overlay right there.

My one concern for Atomic is ... how do existing users upgrade when we make
this change? Does their devicemapper config still just work when they pull the
new tree?

Trying to update octave to 4.2 in rawhide, I'm running into a segfault in

Core was generated by

[Test-Announce] Fedora 25 released!

2016-11-22 Thread Matthew Miller
Fedora 25 released!
===

The Fedora Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of
Fedora 25, the next big step our journey into the containerized, modular
future!

Fedora is a global community that works together to lead the advancement
of free and open source software. As part of the community’s mission the
project delivers three editions, each one a free, Linux-based operating
system tailored to meet specific use cases: Fedora 25 Atomic Host,
Fedora 25 Server, and Fedora 25 Workstation.

Each edition is built from a common set of base packages, which form the
foundation of the Fedora operating system. As with all new versions of
Fedora, Fedora 25 provides many bug fixes and tweaks to these underlying
components, as well as new and enhanced packages, including:

* Docker 1.12 for building and running containerized applications

* Node.js 6.5, the latest version of the popular server-side JavaScript
  engine

* Support for Rust, a faster and more stable system programming language

* Multiple Python versions — 2.6, 2.7, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 — to help run
test suites across several Python configurations, as well as PyPy,
  PyPy3, and Jython

Fedora Workstation
--

Providing many of the latest open source developer and desktop tools,
Fedora 25 Workstation delivers a host of new features, including the
long-awaited official debut of the Wayland display server. Replacing the
legacy X11 system, Wayland has been under development for several years
and seeks to provide a smoother, richer experience for graphical
environments and better capabilities for modern graphics hardware. To
further enhance ease-of-use, Fedora 25 Workstation also features GNOME
3.22, which offers multiple file renaming, a redesigned keyboard
settings tool and additional user interface improvements. Workstation
users will also be pleased with the inclusion of decoding support for
the MP3 media format.

Fedora 25 Workstation now makes it easier to for Windows and OS X users
to get started, with Fedora Media Writer serving as the default download
for those operating systems. This tool helps users find and download the
current Fedora release and write it to removable media, like a USB
stick, allowing potential Fedora users to “test drive” the operating
system from that media environment. Fedora can then be installed to
their systems with the same process.

For current Fedora users, the upgrade path from Fedora 24 to Fedora 25
has been simplified and streamlined, with typical upgrades taking less
than 30 minutes, depending on system configuration and network speed.
Upgrades can be started from the command line or from the GNOME Software
tool, just like regular security and bugfix updates.

For developers, beyond the new docker engine and language support
included in the base Fedora 25 packages, Fedora 25 Workstation
introduces improved Flatpak support. This tweak makes it easier to
install, update and remove Flatpak software and enables this application
packaging standard to be more user friendly at the workstation level.

GNOME Shell extensions are also no longer checked for compatibility with
the current version of the Shell. This was originally required because
the GNOME interfaces were changing rapidly during the early days of
GNOME 3. Now these interfaces have stabilized, and extensions can
generally be expected to work with new releases.

Fedora Server
-

In addition to the flexible multi-role functionality provided by
rolekit, Fedora 25 Server now delivers a new SELinux Troubleshooter
module for Cockpit. Similar to what is available on Fedora Workstation,
the module helps provide suggestions for a user when an SELinux denial
is encountered, which otherwise requires log checking and manual
workarounds.

Fedora 25 Server also will now display SSH keys in the Cockpit system
dashboard to make it easier for administrators to see what keys are
connecting to a given machine. Additionally, support is now included for
multi-step (including two-factor) authentication services.

The FreeIPA identity management system has also been upgraded to 4.4
series, which offers a set of new features for servers deployed in an
identity management role. Some of these enhancements include:

* Topology management: FreeIPA web UI can now be used to visually
manage topology graph for large deployments.

* DNS sites: DNS management in FreeIPA now supports location-specific
  placement of services.

* Subordinate Certificate Authorities: FreeIPA Certificate Authority
now is able to create subordinate CAs to issue certificates with a
  specific scope.

* Kerberos Authentication Indicators: Kerberos KDC now takes
Authentication Indicators into account when issuing service tickets.
For example, two-factor authenticated Kerberos credentials can now be
required prior to obtaining tickets to a VPN service (supported by
  OpenConnect Server).

We do this in Mageia, and openSUSE does this as well.

However, while I agree with the idea of actually splitting
applications and libraries out more (packages like libxslt are
aggravating at times), I'm not sure it's useful to put the soversion
in the name, especially since RPM already generates a versioned
provide using the library soname. User-facing versions make much more
sense here.

For example, if foo 1.23 has libbar.so.5 and foo-exec, I would leave
foo with foo-exec and have libbar contain libbar.so.5. It's more
useful to users. If we want to have multiple versions, we can just
affix ${ver} to the name, as user-facing versions are comprehensible
to people. Few people understand what soversions mean, and fewer
follow them correctly.

And even with all this, this idea above is really only useful in the
context of a distribution that aims to maintain binary compatibility
across longer lifetimes. If we're able to keep moving forward and
properly integrate things against the latest versions of libraries,
then I don't see why we should affix versions or soversions to library
package names.

This sounds as the best option to me.

If the user hasn't upgraded to N+1 in 6 months, it's pretty clear she does not
want to upgrade too frequently, quite the opposite. So why should we recommend
here just N+1 upgrade, which doesn't decrease the number of needed upgrades at
all? In another 6 months she will be forced to upgrade again. Rather, let's
suggest N+2 upgrade, which cuts the number of needed upgrades in half. (As for
upgrade safety, this is very hard to measure, but I believe both methods have a
very similar success rate). Of course, having a option to choose the target
release in gnome-software would definitely help.

It would be a good idea if we could enforce that the keys were private
and well kept. However I have had to clean up unencrypted private keys
from developers so many times on people01 and other servers that I
would worry that someone making a mistake could cause a problem for
everyone. [And while I could turn off people's access if I found them
on people, how do I protect them when they copy them to the university
server I don't have access to?]

The amount of damage someone getting hold of a key could be large and
the amount of time to detect it would also be long as there aren't any
tools to do so. When problems do happen it also brings all sorts of
social witch hunts (from dealing with this in the past with a project
set up like that). People think oh its because joe fucked up, but it
usually turns out that bob fucked up, and the attacker used social
engineering as bob to become joe. [They then do so again after bob is
kicked out if the investigation isn't thorough because people want
action fast.]

In this case if the keys get broken, it is on one group (us in
infrastructure) who fucked up. We get kicked to the curb and some
other group can take it over and try again.

That said, having keys like ssh or gpg could work but i believe it
would take a massive ground up engineering of other processes. [EG if
we use ssh keys and it turns out there is a fundamental crypto flaw
that shows up because they aren't engineered for this sort of process
but it doesn't show up when they are used as ssh keys. ] Does that
make sense?

Yes , this time the script to copy rawhide builds to f25 didn't run ,
so it seems to us we don't have f25, but we have it since near f25
branching ...

Hm, I would need to downgrade more packages apparently I'll wait
and hopefully it'll get fixed soon

Well the koji web interface itself doesn't use authentication anymore,
from a fedpkg PoV there's a lot of complexity with http(s) because it
could be proxied or NATed (worst is CG-NAT) so the same connection
from the same laptop might not even come via the same IP. Basically
what you're describing is exactly what kerberos solves, tokens to
authenticate various different connections.

A lot of companies and data security standards explicitly disallow ssh
keys because of the fact it's client side pass phrases with no way to
enforce a policy so there's no way to tell even if the key has a
passphrase. Personally I'd like to see eventually the move to kerberos
to replace ssh-keys as it's easier to enforce a minimum policy and
manage.
