How does netinstall work on that same box?

Bigger issue as I see it, is the lack of UEFI support for BFO. None of
my hardware has BIOS firmware.

Nope, it's part of the productimg file, which is what sets the default
package selection and also defines what is default partitioning. So
this is netinstall image specific.

Sure. But I thought it would be beneficial to point the OP directly to that
section, since discussion was happening here and on IRC, and a review request
is more appropriate for that.

[HEADS UP] gpgme-1.8.0 comes in Rawhide

2016-12-10 Thread Igor Gnatenko
Currently we stuck for very old version and I am preparing update,
notable changes are:
* Python bindings (both py2 and py3), upstream recommend projects to
switch to official bindings
* libgpgme-pthread.so is removed, GPGME is thread-safe (should not
affect packages using gpgme-config)

There is also C++ bindings, but I didn't package it. Do you want me to do it?

Packages to rebuild:
* almanah
* alot
* balsa
* centerim
* claws-mail
* docker
* docker-latest
* fwknop
* fwknop-gui
* fwupd
* geany-plugins
* kdepim
* kdepim4
* kdepim
* kdepim-apps-libs
* kdepimlibs
* kde-runtime
* kf5-gpgmepp
* kf5-kwallet
* kf5-libkleo
* kf5-mailcommon
* kf5-messagelib
* kget
* kleopatra
* libcryptui
* libisds
* librepo
* mcabber
* mutt
* openvas-libraries
* openvas-manager
* ostree
* pacman
* python-pygpgme
* reprepro
* seahorse
* seahorse-nautilus
* seahorse-sharing
* skopeo
* sylpheed
* trojita
* volume_key

I will rebuild all this packages.

KVM should arguably take care of this itself: mask off TSX in CPUID on
problematic CPUs. Actually obtaining the list of problematic CPUs may
be difficult. But maybe it's easy -- Intel often documents errata
fairly well.

Well, the first link is to a step-by-step guide that also includes one
section about creating a review request, and a link to the Package Review

Is this true?

Yes, it is.

 One could drop a library and it's dependants and that
would be that.
You can not remove any package without a drop-in replacement in a
released version of Fedora, because it would break user installations.

I.e. you can only retire packages from rawhide.

significant motivator, to me.

Are you saying that QCad cannot be easily maintained on Fedora?
Current relationship of QCad to its fork LibreCAD is not a pertinent

On Fri, Dec 9, 2016 at 11:10 AM, Florian Weimer wrote:

We would like to enable hardware-assisted lock optimizations in glibc on

hardware with current firmware, and not on pre-production machines some
vendors provide for architecture bringup.

Have you got an overview of the required instructions/generations of
CPU architecture needed for each different architecture by chance?

I'm afraid not. Even the information on ark.intel.com is not accurate
because it lists TSX support at launch time and does not take into
account subsequent firmware updates which disable TSX. Based on
ark.intel.com, Broadwell and Skylake Xeons seem to support TSX, and
Haswell-EX Xeons as well, but some other Haswell Xeons do not.

In /proc/cpuinfo, the Intel feature appears as “rtm” (even though the
marketing name is TSX).

I don't know where the POWER8 support status appears. It could well be
the case that all POWER8 CPUs support the form lock elision of that
glibc supports (optionally).

From there it might be easier to give details of where all the build
HW is at. In the case of build VMs (x86/aarch64/Power64) does this
need to be emulated by qemu/kvm or is it passed through from the host
CPU?

TSX does not need hypervisor support AFAIK. We are trying to get
clarification from KVM folks which CPUID values can be influenced by the
hypervisor. We are concerned that the hypervisor makes a CPU with
broken TSX look like one with working TSX (so that Debian-style software
blacklisting of TSX fails).

Florian
