The branch name in git can easily be changed too to match.

Please don't. The branch names in git will ripple out to our other apps and
infrastructure scripts. It's also unnecessary -- we have a long history of
using the targetted release for the git branch names, rather than what
project we're building within. (ie: FC-1 was the scm branch name for
packages in Fedora Extras.

please make note to the following bug-report before I file the SCM request.

 Hello list,
I run into rpmlint error about incorrect fsf address. My solution was
report it to upstream and left incorrect address in my packages. I
didn't block review of new packages because of it.
Some maintainers are blocking reviews and they are patching license file
 with correct address.
What's the correct solution? Could you post it on fedora-devel list?

Rpmlint might offer better explanation or change it to warning:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700095

Incorrect FSF address is something that should be reported to upstreams.
No further action is required of packagers, although, if a maintainer
wishes to correct the address with a patch, they are certainly permitted
to do so.

FUDCon EMEA travel subsidies are open

2011-08-05 Thread Christoph Wickert
(I just sent the following mail to the ambassadors list and then figured
out, that we may want to have developers at Milan, so I think it's a
good idea to send this to this list, too)

Hi there,

if you are planing to attend FUDCon Milan 2011 and need travel
subsidies, the ticket system is now open. If you need sponsoring, please

 1. register at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Milan_2011#Pre-registration
 2. put an X in the $$$ column
 3. make a funding request in the the FUDCon ticket tracker at
https://fedorahosted.org/fudcon-planning/wiki/FundingRequest
 4. General instructions about sponsoring can be found at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Sponsoring_event_attendees

Funding requests without a ticket will not be considered. We have a
limited budget and will work hard to fund as many people as possible.
We'll use these answers to help figure out budgeting for the event. We
are making arrangements for attendees from other geographic regions to
encourage specific initiatives such as future FUDCon events, but
preference may otherwise be given to people in EMEA.

The next subsidy meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 15:00
UTC in #fudcon-planning. Please show up in case the event organizers
have questions about your request.

Regards,
Christoph

Screen brightness settings, are there any commands?

2011-08-05 Thread Andreas Tunek
I have problems with bug 722745
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722745), but I have heard
that there are other ways to control the screen brightness settings.
Are there any special commands you can do in addition to the gnome
screen brightness settings? That would probably help regarding that
bug.

Re: build dependency loop in guava / gwt

2011-08-05 Thread Andy Grimm
I talked to jlaska about this, but his response was:

I maintain a gwt package in a private repo since it's a %buildrequires for
autotest. However, I've given up on attempting to package the world of java
just since it's way beyond my skill level. so in it's current state, it
contains a slew of bundled JARs that would never be accepted as an official
Fedora package.

so my original question about how to handle the guava-gwt dependency loop
still stands.

Hi, everyone. I'm looking into packaging gwt (Google Web Toolkit) 2.3
and guava r09. In this new version (unlike Fedora's current version r05),
the full guava build requires gwt. gwt, of course, requires guava to
build. So, I'm looking at doing the following:

 * build guava without guava-gwt (so that gwt is not required for the
 build)
 * build gwt (which has a whole pile of other problems, but that's for
 another day)
 * build guava-gwt as a completely separate package, using essentially the
same upstream source as the guava package

Is this the accepted way to go about this? or should I actually be using
a bootstrap guava package to build gwt, and then rebuild guava with a
guava-gwt subpackage (thus leaving a build dependency loop).

Re: Screen brightness settings, are there any commands?

2011-08-05 Thread Than Ngo
you can use xgamma or xrandr to adjust gamma.

Than

I have problems with bug 722745
 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722745), but I have heard
that there are other ways to control the screen brightness settings.
Are there any special commands you can do in addition to the gnome
screen brightness settings? That would probably help regarding that
 bug.

I just got back from OSCON where the virtues of perl5i were shown.

I guess schwern was giving a talk then?

Looking in yum I don't see perl5i anywhere, and I'm wondering why.

Simply because it's not a dependency of anything else that we have and
no-one was interested in packaging it yet.

Would it be possible to get perl5i added to the Fedora yum repos?

Looks like there's a bunch of dependencies that we're missing too. If
you add a new section to the Perl wishlist[1] with the outstanding
dependency tree, I'm sure one or more of us will get around to adding
them at some point.

Summary: frozen bubble will need new SDL

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728524

Summary: frozen bubble will need new SDL
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
  Platform: Unspecified
OS/Version: Unspecified
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
  Priority: unspecified
 Component: perl-SDL
AssignedTo: hdego...@redhat.com
ReportedBy: mmasl...@redhat.com
 QAContact: extras...@fedoraproject.org
CC: hdego...@redhat.com, fedora-perl-devel-l...@redhat.com
Classification: Fedora
  Story Points: ---
  Type: ---

I wonder why we have so old SDL? They even changed versioning since our last
update:
http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/KTHAKORE/SDL-2.533/CHANGELOG

Upstream of frozen-bubble asked me to update to their beta version, but I'm
stuck with perl-SDL. It needs at least 2.511.

--- Comment #1 from Hans de Goede hdego...@redhat.com 2011-08-05 08:54:26 EDT
---
Hi,

We are at the old perl-SDL because the old frozen bubble would not work with
the new perl-SDL (and AFAIK the new perl-SDL does still not have a stable API
yet, which may also be a problem).

So if the new frozen-bubble needs the new perl-SDL feel free to update perl-SDL
too, request rights in pkgdb if necessary and I'll gladly grant them.

Note that phoronix-test-suite is the only other perl-SDL user in Fedora, you
may want to coordinate this with the phoronix-test-suite owner.

Thanks Regards,

Hans

FUDCon EMEA travel subsidies are open

2011-08-05 Thread Christoph Wickert
(I just sent the following mail to the ambassadors list and then figured
out, that we may want to have developers at Milan, so I think it's a
good idea to send this to this list, too)

Hi there,

if you are planing to attend FUDCon Milan 2011 and need travel
subsidies, the ticket system is now open. If you need sponsoring, please

 1. register at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Milan_2011#Pre-registration
 2. put an X in the $$$ column
 3. make a funding request in the the FUDCon ticket tracker at
https://fedorahosted.org/fudcon-planning/wiki/FundingRequest
 4. General instructions about sponsoring can be found at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Sponsoring_event_attendees

Funding requests without a ticket will not be considered. We have a
limited budget and will work hard to fund as many people as possible.
We'll use these answers to help figure out budgeting for the event. We
are making arrangements for attendees from other geographic regions to
encourage specific initiatives such as future FUDCon events, but
preference may otherwise be given to people in EMEA.

The next subsidy meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 15:00
UTC in #fudcon-planning. Please show up in case the event organizers
have questions about your request.

Regards,
Christoph
