I've added this library to the upstream tracker:
http://upstream-tracker.org/versions/xcb-util.html

So, one can view upstream ABI changes in the oncoming releases.

The following (binary) packages are affected:

boinc-manager
i3
startup-notification
xcb-util-image
xorg-x11-drv-intel

That last one is a touch unexpected. At any rate, I'll kick rebuilds

Calling gnome-ish package maintainers -- please check mclazy metadata

2012-08-22 Thread Richard Hughes
Hi all,

mclazy.py has spent the last couple of days sending builds to koji for
the 3.5.90 release. mclazy.py uses the default version numbers of:

f16 = 3.2.*
f17 = 3.4.*
f18 = 3.5.*/3.6.*
rawhide = * (the newest upstream version)

This works really well when the project pushing tarballs to
ftp.gnome.org uses the official GNOME version numbering. If a project
decides to do it's own thing (like sushi, glib, cheese, etc.) then we
need a way to map the upstream version numbers to Fedora releases.
This is where the modules.xml file comes in.

I would very much appreciate if maintainers could please just do a 20
second check of
https://gitorious.org/mclazy/mclazy/blobs/master/modules.xml to make
sure mclazy is picking up the right version for each release. If there
are any mistakes, or if you just want to opt out of mclazy completely,
please just reply to this email or send me email off-list.

Thanks,

Richard

I completely agree.

 I just wanted to ask that you not let the actions of one

When the community cannot limit the actions/flames/insults of one

(At least for people, who will be using mate on Fedora).

 I'm sure that a reasonable solution
 can be worked out in time.

As people prefer to leave the project instead of opening a ticket on
fesco, insults by Dan nothing will change.
By the way, Wolfgang is not the first one, who steps back because of
insults of Dan, just the first one who posts here about it as he wants
to continue on packages where Dan has no interests in. For proof, see
the communication above and [1].

When someone insults people, so that they step back or completely
leave the project, they should be kicked out. But as I'm not a mate

so we'll need to wait till someone is concerned enough about it...

Unexpanded rpm macros in Requires

2012-08-22 Thread Ralf Corsepius

Hi,

Bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=850628 has made me
look into some more packages and lets me come up with this finding:

There are several packages in Fedora, which carry unexpanded rpm-macros
in their Requires [1]:

b/beefy-miracle-kde-theme-16.91.0.1-2.fc18.noarch.rpm:
beefy-miracle-backgrounds-kde = %{backgrounds-kde-version}

l/libpng12-devel-1.2.50-1.fc18.i686.rpm:
libpng12(x86-32) = %{epoch}:1.2.50-1.fc18

l/libproxy-mozjs-0.4.7-5.fc18.i686.rpm:
gecko-libs = %{gecko_version}

t/Thunar-devel-1.4.0-2.fc18.i686.rpm:
exo-devel = %{exoversion}

x/xfce4-cellmodem-plugin-0.0.5-10.fc18.i686.rpm:
xfce4-panel = %{panelversion}

I would suggest the package maintainers of these packages to step up and
fix these.

Ralf

[1] For reasons of simpilicity, I am only listing the fedora-18-i386
variants. In general, these broken Requires: are present in several
versions of Fedora.

compared to non-debug modes (much more so than used to be the case).
Every so often the kernel team does a build with debugging disabled,
you might want to grab one of those builds and see if it resolves the
issue before filing a bug. If I'm reading the changelog right, the
latest non-debug build is 3.6.0-0.rc2.git0.1:

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=348688

so give that one a shot.

Oh yes, that debugged kernel. Using the non-debug version improved the
performance of the DE (desktop environment). Thanks, Adam.

Start by filing bugs. Every feature owner should get the chance to first
fix things before you escalate it all the way to FESCO.

Right now there is exactly one bug in tracked in the tmp-on-tmpfs
tracker bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=826015

One bug doesn't sound too bad, so I see no reason at all for all the

escalating to FESCO before even filing a single bug, thank you very

[Test-Announce] Fedora 18 Alpha to slip by one week

2012-08-22 Thread Jaroslav Reznik
Today at Go/No-Go meeting it was decided to slip Fedora 18
Alpha release by one week due to numerous unresolved bugs
[1] and incomplete test matrices for Alpha [2][3][4]. See
the meeting minutes [5] for more details.

As a result, ALL MAJOR MILESTONES, and their dependent tasks,
will be pushed out by one week.

The Fedora 18 Alpha readiness meeting is on Thursday,
Aug 23 at 19:00 UTC (3 PM EDT/12 PM Pacific). Please join
the meeting to sync Alpha preparations.

The next Go/No-Go meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday,
Aug 30, same time, same place (21:00 UTC, 5 PM EDT,
#fedora-meeting), just a different day!

Unfortunatelly due to family reasons (life does not respect
schedules) I'm not sure I'll be able to fix F18 schedule
until Friday... So please make sure to count with slip
before I'll update it. Reminder: schedule was moved to
my personal space [6]!

Thanks

Fedora 18 Alpha Release Readiness Meeting.

date: 2012-08-23
place: irc.freenode.net in #fedora-meeting-1
time: 19:00 UTC (3 PM Eastern, 12 PM Pacific, 21 PM CEST)

This Thursday, August 23, we will meet to make sure we are coordinated
and ready for the public release of Fedora 18 Alpha on Tuesday, August
28, 2012. Please note that this meeting will occur on August 23 *even
if the release is delayed at the Go/No-Go meeting on August 22.* - in
half hour (I tell you secret - it's going to be No-Go...).

This meeting works best when we have representatives from all of the
teams, so we'll be looking for the following people to attend or send a
representative in their place. Unfortunately I won't be available
during the whole day (see PS...), so let's hope we'll meet.

We will meet in #fedora-meeting-1 because of conflict in meeting
schedules.

small tip regarding git branch bash prompt in F18/Rawhide

2012-08-22 Thread Adam Williamson
Hey folks - just in case you haven't all figured this out yet, if
you're using the neat little trick of putting a few lines in your
~/.bashrc so that when you're in a directory containing a git repo, the
prompt will display what branch you're in, it'll stop working when you
update to the latest git - 1.7.12 - in F18 or Rawhide. To fix it, you
need to change:

source /etc/bash_completion.d/git

to:

source /usr/share/doc/git-1.7.12/contrib/completion/git-prompt.sh

because upstream split the prompt stuff out from the bash_completion
script. Perhaps the git packagers could consider providing git-prompt.sh
in a more permanent location, so we don't have to poke .bashrc every
time the git version changes? Thanks!

Well, you could have two macros -- pre-F18 they do what they do now,
F18+, they do the same thing and defer to the policy.

Another way to go is to create 2 macros for pre-F18 that are no-ops
F18+ and make the F18+ macros no-ops pre-F18. Then have packagers put
both in (or maintain two versions of the spec file).

It's kind of ugly, but it sounds like it's that or wait until F20 before
maintainers start picking up the new macros (unless they already have
different spec files per Fedora version).

This is definitely planned. I mailed Adam (the other Adam) today to

TLS definition mismatch error in mrpt

2012-08-22 Thread Rich Mattes

Hi,

I'm trying to rebuild one of my packages (mrpt), and I'm running into a
TLS mismatch error that I am having issues troubleshooting. The
offending build is at
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=4412122

A little background into the involved packages symbols: pcl (the point
cloud library) is a huge library that implements a bunch of different
algorithms for dealing with point clouds. It uses the eigen3 library
extensively for matrix math. eigen3 is a header-only c++ template
library. I recently built new versions of eigen3[1] and pcl[2].

I've googled it a bit, the only results I find have to do with including
errno.h in the offending source files. I was wondering if anyone had
any insight into this error or could provide some pointers as to how to
debug.

Thanks,

Rich

CPAN output of error

Description of problem:

I try to install perl (v5.14.2) modules IO::Uncompress::Bunzip2 and
Compress::Zlib through CPAN on 3.5.2-1.fc17.x86_64. The prerequisits for the
modules are:
Compress::Raw::Bzip2 2.055
Compress::Raw::Zlib 2.055
The versions I have for Compress::Raw::Bzip2 and Compress::Raw::Zlib are 2.052.
I have upgraded both of these packages and the upgrade went fine, but the
version numbers have not changed for the two newly built packages making it
impossible to install IO::Uncompress::Bunzip2 and Compress::Zlib.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 2.055

How reproducible: Install Compress::Zlib via CPAN.

Steps to Reproduce:

2.
3.

Actual results:
