[EPEL-devel] peel HTTPS urls don't work in older CentOS

2014-11-12 Thread Przemysław Hejman
Hi guys,

I’ve recently tried to deploy some apps with saltstack on CentOS 6.4. I’m using
saltstack bootstrap script, which installs EPEL. The problem is, that yum
fails with update because it cannot reach the HTTPS repositories.
When changing to HTTP, it starts working. You can see a detailed discussion
about it here:
https://github.com/saltstack/salt-bootstrap/issues/474#issuecomment-62449575

What can I do about that?

Regards,

Przemysław Hejman

The problem is that the fedora project has disabled SSLv3 (after it was
found to be insecure). As part of that, mirrors.fedoraproject.org also
no longer works for clients that can't negotiate better than SSLv3.

CentOS/RHEL 6.6 works fine.

I think 6.5 works fine with all nss* package updates applied.

I don't have any idea about 6.4. Are there pending nss* updates for you?

Would it be possible for you to update to 6.6 or 6.5?

I believe the problem is not really SSLv3, but that the Fedora Project
uses 4096 bit keys, which the old nss can't handle. I was unable to
locate any other web server that used 4096 bit keys when I was
diagnosing the issue back then, so I was unable to confirm my theory.

CentOS 6.4 without any updates does not work, but works with C6.4's nss
and nspr update. nss-3.14.3-4.el6_4 is the oldest version that works.
CentOS 6.5 and later will of course work as well.

To fix the problem: yum update --disablerepo=epel\*

If your nss is too old to handle Fedora's certificates, it means you
haven't run yum update for more than a year and you are missing a
large bunch of important CentOS updates.

Well, we changed certs in April after heartbleed. I would expect if
that broke things we would have seen it before now.

This doesn't look good...and as Image Factory doesn't provide very good

Dennis, do you know why those builds fail?

Also, let me know if there are any news in communication with Docker

Well. There is MultiPathTCP

but it is not in stock kernel yet.
In the mean time you can try Copr build:

I'd personally say people shouldn't start using this... we should be

But F21 is branched. So we are speaking about F22, where DNF should be default.

I would like to have green flag from FPC for weak deps in F22.

Dennis, do you know why those builds fail?
I looked at it today and it was due to rhel7 pykickstart not supporting

version so it should be okay now.

Also, let me know if there are any news in communication with Docker
about pushing our images or if there is anything I can do in this area

Big issue here is that its all manual processes and tehy do not want us
to update the images often, in the rawhide case we want to update daily.

wanting to collaborate on the task can need, it is suggested to
create some separate page where some subtasks and more info would be
included (hhorak, 12:37:53)

Dnf should already have full support of this feature, at least that
is the plan. Some people already tested it and so far it seems it
works as expected. The semantics is described here:

  http://rpm.org/wiki/PackagerDocs/Dependencies

Well, if things are fully implemented then...

 1. If there's a weak dep (reccomends or supplants) that generates a
solving error, dnf drops that weak dep and goes on with no error?
(I guess this case would be two packages recommending things that
conflict or one recommending something and another package with a
 supplants for a different package)

Weak deps has been supported in libsolv for long time but nobody tried
this scenarios in dnf. AFAIK it will ends with error now - no packages
installed.

 2. For 'very weak' deps (suggests, enhances) does dnf show the
matching packages as option to the user ?

It doesn't show it but it could.

 3. The page says The depsolver may offer to treat the weak like very
weak relations or the other way round does dnf do that? or not?

DNF doesn't do that and never will. IMO that would be too hackish behavior.

Perhaps some folks would like to step up to help out with this?
Make a wiki page or document of various cases people might use it, make
a test copr with those cases? Draft a FPC guideline for using them?

That would be really appreciated. All those can be done simultaneously with
the progressing adoption. I'm convinced we should use the test run in F21 to
actually know what we need to regulate/control. Writing guidelines without
 any
prior experience with the technology in Fedora is highly unlikely to do any
 good (remember SCLs?).

I would be glad if the packagers/users come with undefined scenarios and file BZ
on DNF with:
* [weak deps] summary prefix
* post link to custom COPR, so we can reproduce it easily
* write expected result

then RPM team decides how DNF should act, change it accordingly and document
this case.

FYI I have added to DNF github wiki page [1] how to report different kinds of
bugs.

ImageFactory basically does the best it can with what it can currently
get from Anaconda. Ian's making on making it record a video for the
worst case. But here, it looks like the problem may be ksflatten
(again!):

$ ksflatten  -vf20 -c fedora-docker-base.ks  /dev/null

Failed to parse kickstart file 'fedora-docker-base.ks' : The following
problem occurred on line 19 of the kickstart file:

The --nocore option was introduced in version F21, but you are using
kickstart syntax version F20.

Which means that this is failing if it's hitting a builder with f20
ksflatten, something I thought we just fixed for atomic.

Testing repository for weak dependencies

2014-11-12 Thread Miroslav Suchý

Hi,
I created public repository in Copr with packages that use weak dependencies.
Reverse dependencies are in separate project to easy testing of normal weak
deps.

Feel free to use it for testing how weak dependencies work.

https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/msuchy/weakdeps/
https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/msuchy/weakdeps-rev/

There is 9 packages: A, B, C, BB1, BB2, CC1, CC2, S and E with dependencies as
follow:

A:
Recommends: B
Suggests: C
Recommends: BB
Suggests: CC

S:
Supplements:A

E:
Enhances: A

Where BB is virtual package provided by both BB1 and BB2. And CC is virtual
package provided by CC1 and CC2.

That sounds good to me - let's update fedora:rawhide
(https://registry.hub.docker.com/_/fedora/) base image for example
weekly and create f.e. fedora/rawhide image which could be pushed there
easily daily and mention this from fedora repo.

Would that work for you?

Packaging american fuzzy lop (a fuzzer)

2014-11-12 Thread Richard W.M. Jones
American fuzzy lop is the name of a rabbit breed, and also quite a
nice little fuzzing tool that I'm using to discover new bugs in my software:

  http://code.google.com/p/american-fuzzy-lop/

I want to submit a package for Fedora, but I'm not sure what the name
should be:

  - american-fuzzy-lop
  - afl (not taken in Fedora)
  - afl-fuzz (the name of the main binary)
  - afl-fuzzer ?

There doesn't seem to be a package for any other distro yet, so
there's no obvious precedent.

18:00:13 jwb hi
18:00:14 mitr Hello
18:00:25 kalev hi
18:00:38 nirik morning everyone.
18:01:01 mattdm hello!
18:02:15 nirik ok, I guess lets dive in. A pretty short agenda today...
18:02:24 nirik #topic #1365 A unique system-wide TMP directory for all
programs and sane ways to retrieve the default
18:02:24 nirik .fesco 1365
18:02:24 nirik https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/1365
18:02:26 zodbot nirik: #1365 (A unique system-wide TMP directory for all
programs and sane ways to retrieve the default) – FESCo -
https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/1365
18:02:34 nirik this sort of stalled out after last week...
18:03:04 nirik firefox folks removed their hack...
18:03:31 nirik so they use /tmp again in rawhide.
18:04:14 kalev that sounds like a regression
18:04:35 nirik regression?
18:04:46 kalev downloading multi gigabyte files into /tmp would probably
easily fill it up
18:04:48 mattdm well, that's going to fill up with big downloads
18:04:59 nirik well, only if people don't say where to download them too...
18:05:05 dgilmore hola
18:05:07 t8m hi, sorry for being late
18:05:15 nirik it only uses that until the save dialog not answered.
18:05:46 nirik so I guess somone could save an iso and not answer the dialog
and fill up space.
18:05:47 mitr While I have questions around that, I’m not sure we should be
micromanaging individual component’s behavior
18:05:49 kalev my understanding is that they should continue using /var/tmp
for that purpose
18:06:12 mitr If we ended up researching Firefox and proposing Firefox
changes today, that would get us no closer to resolving 1365
18:06:18 nirik https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1161110#c4
18:06:30 * nirik is with mitr
18:06:31 t8m mitr, +1
18:06:38 kalev which they did previously, but the problem was the way they
achieved it, by overriding the TMPDIR variable which incidentally then also
override it in the env passed to other programs
18:06:48 nirik so do we have some distro wide policy or proposal here?
18:07:04 mitr Proposal: design a sane system-wide API with a single
implementation.
18:07:09 mitr There, that’s going to help, isn’t it?
18:07:09 t8m kalev, they want to stop that and use /tmp from now
18:07:12 * mitr shuts up
18:07:23 nirik mitr: sure... but then the questions come. ;)
18:07:26 t8m mitr, heh
18:07:40 t8m mitr, is there actually a way tho get a sane API?
18:08:05 mitr t8m: All it would take is FESCo saying Thou Shalt Use $library
and “I don’t like it” doesn’
18:08:09 mitr t count as a reason not to.
18:08:17 mitr

I am using lukscrypt as well, but it works for me.

Are you using it docked, suspend, undock, and resume afterwards?
I see a blank screen after switching between external and internal
screens. IMHO it's already a reported issue.

I have issues docked or undocked. Seems like docked is worse? I was having
blank screen issues but they are gone after installing nvidia drivers.

through cliffs and shallow waters here as best as I can.

 I added myself as co-maintainer to openstack-tuskar,

If we don't hear anything in a week, we will be setting the point of

I don't see a reason, why we need to wait for a week here, and I

Sure. I can reassign them...

So to be clear thats:

openstack-tuskar
openstack-tuskar-ui
python-soaplib
python-tuskarclient

change POC to jrist?

ImageFactory basically does the best it can with what it can currently
get from Anaconda. Ian's making on making it record a video for the
worst case. But here, it looks like the problem may be ksflatten
 (again!):

 $ ksflatten  -vf20 -c fedora-docker-base.ks  /dev/null

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=8109378
after updating pykickstart on the compose box, which runs rhel7 to a
build from f21 we had a successful docker base image built last night.

 (also see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1162881)

The best fix is really to make sure that all these different steps
happen in chroots of the target os so that we always have a suitable
version for the os we are working with
