Fwd: Freeze Break Request: Increase execution timeouts in taskotron's buildbot

2015-04-16 Thread Kamil Paral
Just a note - we don't need an increased timeout, if we deploy newer
python-yamlish. That could have been done a long time ago, but we forgot to
update the spec file, so nobody found out. That's why I tried to fix it in
https://phab.qadevel.cloud.fedoraproject.org/D337 . Once that is accepted, the
next libtaskotron build will require the newer python-yamlish.

Subject: Freeze Break Request: Increase execution timeouts in taskotron's
buildbot

As the set of packages in f22 has grown with freeze, some of the tasks
(most often depcheck) are not completing before hitting the default
timeout of 20 minutes for execution in buildbot.

I want to double the timeout for task execution from 20 to 40 minutes.
I've made the change in dev and stg already and the change works - long
tasks are no longer being killed prior to completion. This freeze break
is for production.

+1s?

Tim

[Bug 1212345] New: Slic3r won't start (subroutine error)

2015-04-16 Thread bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1212345

Bug ID: 1212345
Summary: Slic3r won't start (subroutine error)
   Product: Fedora
   Version: 21
 Component: slic3r
  Severity: medium
  Assignee: mhron...@redhat.com
  Reporter: mediak...@gmail.com
QA Contact: extras...@fedoraproject.org

Description of problem: When trying to run Slic3r (1.1.7 installed for F21),
Slic3r won't start and throw some subroutines errors.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Slic3r 1.1.7

How reproducible:
Run Slic3r at least once. At this point and in my case, it worked (at first).
Then, run it again a few days later, Slic3r crashes with subroutine errors.
Trying to remove slic3r conf folder (.Slic3r) didn't help.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run slic3r
2. Close Slic3r
3. Run slic3r again

Actual results:

Re: Agenda for Env-and-Stacks WG meeting (2015-04-16)

2015-04-16 Thread Petr Hracek

Hi Matthew,

only for my better understanding.
dark blue circles means rings?

Base design means ring 0 (if we start with counting from 0).
Light blue means ring 1?
Orange circle mean ring 2?

Would it be possible to describe a bit the picture?

I would like to be prepared for the meeting which we will have this evening.

I am glad that we will discuss about it.

Greetings
Petr

Package was retired due to lack of maintainership.

No one from Java SIG was interested in keeping it alive any longer -- it
was only here to support VisualVM, IIRC, but that is also now retired.

Hi,

Which version of Netbeans are you trying to build? I am also trying to
build Netbeans and Netbeans-platform (version 8.0.2) on fedora 21 and I
have not succeed yet but I made some progress. Maybe I can help you.

[Test-Announce] Fedora 22 Beta Release Candidate 2 (RC3) Available Now!

2015-04-16 Thread Adam Williamson
As per the Fedora 22 schedule [1], Fedora 22 Beta Release Candidate 3
(RC3) is now available for testing.

RC3 has only one change from RC2: an updated libhif package to fix
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1211991 . As time is short
before Go/No-Go we will likely not be able to complete all tests; we
can transfer results that should be unaffected by the package change
from RC2. Folks who have time to test RC3, please concentrate on the
tests that may be affected (desktop updates test cases for both KDE
and GNOME), and the basic sanity check tests to ensure nothing went
wrong with the compose process. Thanks! I will look at the matrices in
the morning (NA time) and transfer results as appropriate.

Content information, including changes, can be found at
 https://fedorahosted.org/rel-eng/ticket/6132#comment:19 . Please see
the following pages for download links and testing instructions.
Normally dl.fedoraproject.org should provide the fastest download, but
download-ib01.fedoraproject.org is available as a mirror (with an
approximately 1 hour lag) in case of trouble. To use it, just replace
dl with download-ib01 in the download URL.

All Beta priority test cases for each of these test pages [2] must

try and identify later release blocker bugs as early as possible.

I suppose then those perl modules are the ones breaking the systemwide

well, and that is bad

back in the good old days replacements typically where commandline
compatible and worked as drop-in replacement, these days people all day
long are bothered with the new shiny things need work left and right
from everybody and often the improvements are not worth the time wasted
by thousands of people

It is not. I checked last week

that is pretty sure hardware dependent

most NICs supporting WOL have it enabled and you need to disable it when
not needed to stop power waste

Is that good enough? Should systemd obsolete it, too? I thought the
whole point of this thread was that pm-utils was actively dangerous
now, so shouldn't we actively remove it from users' systems?

I wasn't dangerous, just confusing and obsolete. You raise a good point.
Nevertheless, systemd does not provide command-line compatiblity to pm-utils,
so I don't think we can obsolete it. Someone might be using it in their
 scripts,
 etc.

Just replace it with wrapper scripts that use systemctl under the hood.

Re: Agenda for Env-and-Stacks WG meeting (2015-04-16)

2015-04-16 Thread Matthew Miller
On Thu, Apr 16, 2015 at 09:16:39AM +0200, Petr Hracek wrote:
 only for my better understanding.
 dark blue circles means rings?

Yeah.

Base design means ring 0 (if we start with counting from 0).
 Light blue means ring 1?
 Orange circle mean ring 2?

Going with my earlier circle, I'd say that Base Design is Ring 1,
and there is actually a not-pictured Ring 0 inside that, which
represents the minimal installable system.

Would it be possible to describe a bit the picture?

Sure. The following is kind of a brain dump rather than an organized
presentation -- you can read the paragraphs out of order if it helps.
:)

The basic idea is that we have Workstation, Cloud, Server (and, not
pictured, various spins) drawn from the general package collection,
possibly composed with rpm-ostree (and likely an rpm-ostree with
extensions to its current capability allowing more local overlays —
something Colin has talked about but not implemented because it's
outside of the Atomic use case).

The various rectangles next to each edition represent layering
technologies, whether they be ostree overlays, docker or other
containers, or the LinuxApps effort. Ideally, these are _all_
implemented with container technologies, although I'm not quite sure
we're there yet. For Server, it's the Server Roles (obviously, I hope).
For Workstation, I drew these as _modules_ comprising functional
bundles of software, because as a user, that's an level _I'd_ find
useful (with individual applications installable as a separate thing).
For Cloud, I wrote Docker, but we don't necessarily want to be
completely tied to that — if Project Atomic continues to be successful,
I envision that eventually being the _primary_ Fedora Cloud output,
with the minimal cloud base image being a side deliverable.

The dotted line for IOT or SDN represents suggested Internet of Things
or Software Defined Networking editions which have been informally
suggested but not formally proposed or worked on.

Everything in the blue circle is basically what we think of as the
Fedora OS today. If this were a 3D diagram, I might draw the rounded
rectangles as floating above.

The orange circle extends outside of traditional Fedora OS, but I'd
love for people to start thinking about the Fedora brand as bigger and
more inclusive than just the distro as it exists. I've put a dotted
line on the outside of that to indicate that it's really a fuzzy
border.

Also of note, see the Docker containers for the cloud edition stepping
outside of the blue circle. I suggest that at some point at least
_some_ components which are part of a standard edition will consist of
containers built from source right to a docker container, eschewing the
middle step of building RPMs — but giving us the same traceability and
verifiability. (Maybe these containers will be built in koji, for
example.)

I didn't draw it, but I think the Playground actually exists on the
border between orange and blue, but really more inside than out. Maybe
it's best drawn as an incursion of the orange circle into the blue one.
:)

Re: Fwd: Why Isn't NFS Working?

Well, like I said before, I figured out that the problem isn't with
NFS directly, but that systemd isn't starting nfs-lock like it's
supposed to at startup for some reason. When I started it manually,
everything worked fine.

Yes, and I had a similar problem when I've upgraded my workstation to F21:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1158164

There was systemd not starting nfs-lock, but in the end it was a problem
caused by rpcbind and out of order start of unit files. Maybe you can
start it manually because at the point you reach terminal the other unit
files have been loaded, while at startup systemd tries to load nfs-lock
before something needed to start nfs-lock.

Re: Freeze Break Request: Increase execution timeouts in taskotron's buildbot

Just a note - we don't need an increased timeout, if we deploy newer

forgot to update the spec file, so nobody found out. That's why I
 tried to fix it in
 https://phab.qadevel.cloud.fedoraproject.org/D337 . Once that is
accepted, the next libtaskotron build will require the newer
 python-yamlish.

I'd argue that we do need to get the increased timeout working but that
doesn't negate your point about python-yamlish.

However, there are two problems:
1. there's no newer python-yamlish package to update to - that's
something that I wrote the specfile for and isn't in the fedora
repos, as far as I know.

2. we can't deploy a newer libtaskotron in production yet - that'll
bring in stuff that I don't want to push into production yet.

That being said, I've started a build of python-yamlish-0.18 and will
get that pushed out to dev/stg later today.

Subject: Freeze Break Request: Increase execution timeouts in
 taskotron's buildbot

As the set of packages in f22 has grown with freeze, some of the tasks
(most often depcheck) are not completing before hitting the default
timeout of 20 minutes for execution in buildbot.

I want to double the timeout for task execution from 20 to 40 minutes.
I've made the change in dev and stg already and the change works -
long tasks are no longer being killed prior to completion. This
 freeze break is for production.

 +1s?

It's a time out issue. Increasing the timeout value for bodhi client
in f-e-k works around it:

 Hi,

Which version of Netbeans are you trying to build? I am also trying to
build Netbeans and Netbeans-platform (version 8.0.2) on fedora 21 and I
have not succeed yet but I made some progress. Maybe I can help you.

It doesn't compile yet but I made some improuvements earlier this week.

netbeans is here:

It doesn't compile and I haven't touched in a while (it requires

Well, as I said before, I do not like packages, which are doing so.

My advise to users: Don't use such packages if you are concerned about

If package provide some basic modules and also utilities for user to

Why would you trust such update channels and the content they provide?

Who tells me their site is trustworthy and not run or having been taken
over by a secret service, the Mafia or other criminals?

As was mentioned
early many software do the same.
In Fedora? None that I am aware of, except of Mozilla, whose
plugins/addons basically suffer from the same issue. Nothing but Mozilla
itself prevents you from installing the Nigerian Mafia or the
NSA-Trojan add-ons.

Although we do not ship any external
yum repos in rpm there clear way for users how to add others.
Correct. The rationale not to allow non-fedora repos in Fedora is
basically the same.

And it may
be much more security breach.
Well, instead of relying on Fedora shipping a fixed set of scripts
(which should have been reviewed and tested by the package maintainer
and protected from forgery with rpm), they want users to download
install arbitrary scripts from their site.

IMO, they are implementing a carte-blanche to trojans, malware and
espionage.

I have never used plowshare nor do I know what it is used for.

Due the massive change of hosters, the modules are always beeing
updated, and a little tool plowmod deal with modules updates. This
tool can install and update the modules locally, which is much better
than to provide the modules inside the package.

So, upstream recommends to deal with plowshare core only, which it is
 quite stable. And I agree.

So, the question is: Am I violating Fedora Packaging Guidelines if I do
not provide the modules into fedora repositories?

Letting applications install something into system-wide directories outside
of rpm is not allowed in Fedora.

Note that is's not preventable: Python, CPAN, and rubygems all have
strong support for this, although it's certainly preferable.

But I don't think the FPG formally disallows installing arbitrary
executables from arbitrary sites into private user directories as part of
 applications.

And I'm very grateful for the very nice people who sort out the
dependencies and build up SRPM's rather than saying dude!!! just run
CPAN. I've been going through this lately with chef RPM's and trying
to pott them to Fedora or RHEL, and the ruby 'bundler' they use seems
to build RPM's, not SPRM's,a nd installs rubygems from upstream at
build time. *NASTY!!!*.

plowmod seems to be more like SpamAssassin: it can be RPM packaged,
but its out of date *really fast* and it's very difficult to keep the
modules packaged.

Copying more than 500 MB crashes Fedora Live CD even though there is
sufficient RAM.

It doesn't matter how much RAM your system has, once you copy more
than 500 MB you will get stuff like Input/output error or just plain
crashes like Segmentation fault.

Why does this happen?

So, in my mind plowshare just must clearly state what it doing and
provide described way to control such process for user (see and manage
repos added, enabled/disabled and so on). Off course that should be
installed somewhere under user $HOME...

We have a Fedora packaging rule which disallows all system-wide
installations outside of rpm's control.

The reasons for this conventions are
* system-consistency
* system-security
* testing

The only gap left open is installing into user private directories.

I consider people, who run CPAN to be not knowing what they are doing.
The are shooting themselves into their own foot.

Wrt. perl, CPAN vs. rpm installation issues and users having broken CPAN
modules in their system is a common cause for people facing perl issue.

plowmod seems to be more like SpamAssassin: it can be RPM packaged,

Well, I can understand why its convenient to users, but these users
probably will only comprehend that such practices are wide open doors to
all kind of malicious people and technical issues, when they will be
personally affected.

To cut a long story short: One of the reasons for Linux being considered
safer than other OSes is being very reluctant against per-user installs.

I don't think this is a question meant for the devel list. You would be
better off asking on the users list. Also when you do ask it there, please
make sure you give a lot of data you did not in this email.

1) Which of the many 'Fedora Live CD' are you referring to.
2) What is the hardware you are trying to install it on. (x86_32, x86_64,
ppc, arm) (type of computer if possible) (how much memory you have)
3) How are you copying 500 MB of data. This matters as there are multiple
ways of copying and it may be something about how you are doing it.
