 We were working with data provided by

 and there is no ansible listed within packages.

Ansible is agentless, you install it on your client machine, and it uploads
Python
code to the server, without requiring anything other than that to be installed.

F23 System Wide Change: SELinux policy store migration

2015-06-11 Thread Jan Kurik
= Proposed System Wide Change: SELinux policy store migration =
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/SELinuxPolicyStoreMigration

Change owner(s):
* Petr Lautrbach plautrba at redhat dot com
* Miroslav Grepl mgrepl at redhat dot com

The newest SELinux userspace project release 2015-02-02 includes a change of
the location of the SELinux policy store, which defaults to /var/lib/selinux/.

== Detailed Description ==
In the SELinux userspace project release 2015-02-02, the SELinux policy store
was moved from /etc/selinux/store/modules/ to /var/lib/selinux/store/.
The new policy store
 * has a new complex structure
 * supports priority of modules
 * the CIL language is used for cached modules
 * original modules are converted using an HLL compiler in
/usr/libexec/selinux/hll/. The pp compiler converts pp format to CIL language.

== Scope ==
* Proposal owners:
- prepare SELinux userspace packages with the release 2015-02-02
- prepare SELinux policy packages with the new store location
- prepare a migration script for users modifications and modules
- check if all packages containing SELinux modules use the right location
- check if all SELinux modules used in Fedora packages are compatible with
the new SELinux userspace and are convertible to CIL language
* Other developers: N/A
* Release engineering: N/A
* Policies and guidelines:
- there's no need to update policies
- there might be guidelines which mention the old store location which
should be updated
* Trademark approval: N/A (not needed for this Change)

  Up until now, Fedora has used Python 2 as the default Python
  implementation. This change proposes switching to Python 3. The details of
  the term switching are explained thoroughly in the Scope section.

  == Detailed Description ==
  It is currently mature and stable, since it has been under active
  development for five years
 More than that, I'm sure.

  == Scope ==
  The main goal is switching to Python 3 as a default, in which state:
  * DNF is the default package manager instead of Yum, which only works
  with Python 2
 Does that mean that dnf-3 is going to become the default which is installed
 as /usr/bin/dnf?

Yes

 Will old dnf be available as /usr/bin/dnf-2?

This decision is solely in the hands of dnf maintainers.

Looking at current state (f22):

rkuska@deimos ~  [11:03:23]
 $ rpm -ql dnf | grep bin
/usr/bin/dnf

rkuska@deimos ~  [11:03:31]
 $ rpm -ql python-dnf | grep bin
/usr/bin/dnf-2

rkuska@deimos ~  [11:03:35]
 $ rpm -ql python3-dnf | grep bin
/usr/bin/dnf-3

the answer seems to be yes.

  Changes in packaging:
  * Change definition of default python interpreter to python3.
 What does that mean?

  * Change unversioned python macros to python3 (Possibly do that change
  in upstream rpm)
 Hm, I think that this will break hundreds of packages... Not everything has
 been updated to use %{__python2} or %{__python3}, and of those that haven't
 been
 updated, many probably are not ready for switching to python3. I think it
 would be better to avoid a flag day, and simply slowly switch packages
 one by one.

This is already part of packaging guidelines so any package that is not using
versioned macros doesn't comply the guidelines and therefore should be fixed.
So either packagers will fix their packages themselves once they fail to build
during mass rebuild or we (owners of the change) will step in.

  * All applications that use only a single python version MUST use
 python3 (unless they have a good reason not to do so).
 Do you intend to file bugs for all such packages or notify maintainers
 in some other way?

This applies for new reviewed packages and for those who are installed
by default on different target releases (do we have a common name for different
fedora releases such as LiveDVD, Atomic, Cloud etc?) listed in scope and for
these
either already exist or we plan to open bugzilla reports.

ANNOUNCE storaged 2.1.0

2015-06-11 Thread Peter Hatina
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi all,

a new version of storaged [1] is now available at [2]. Rawhide
packages have already been built.

The most significant feature of this release is: iSCSI initiator
configuration API.

Detailed list of changes since the first release:
- - introduced CreatePartitionAndFormat() which combines 2 steps needed
  to create a partition and format it
- - introduced *iSCSI initiator API*:
  - DiscoverFirmware()
  - DiscoverSendTargetsChap()
  - DiscoverSendTargetsNoAuth()
  - GetInitiatorName()
  - SetInitiatorName()
  - Login()
  - Logout()
  - for each iSCSI session, there is a separate object living on D-Bus
- this depends, if my patch gets included into Fedora's
  iscsi-initiator-utils
- - modular API was (a bit) redesigned
- - daemon can be run from build directory --uninstalled
- - added several tests for storagedctl
- - moved from transifex to zanata

[1]: https://github.com/storaged-project/storaged
[2]:
https://github.com/storaged-project/storaged/releases/tag/storaged-2.1.0

Please, feel free to forward this announce message to any other
mailing list so that people get to know about it.

Thanks and regards,

--- Comment #1 from Petr Šabata psab...@redhat.com ---
I've altered the test suite so it passes now. It's not a critical issue.
Upstream needs to decide how to fix the underlying problem.

Re: F23 System Wide Change: SELinux policy store migration

 Change owner(s):

 * Miroslav Grepl mgrepl at redhat dot com

 The newest SELinux userspace project release 2015-02-02 includes a change of
 the location of the SELinux policy store, which defaults to
 /var/lib/selinux/.

 This will need to support having an empty /var on boot in order to be
 compatible
 with both rpm-ostree and the systemd factory reset work. For most of user
 space,
 the simplest implementation of this is to just have a systemd-tmpfiles unit
 that
 copies data on startup. But policy is currently loaded very early after
 switch root.  This
 will require that /var be mounted too.

Actually, the policy will be still loaded from /etc/selinux/. The
migration will affect the policy store which is used for rebuilding
policy from modules and from other local changes. So a system could boot
with empty /var if it's needed.

However, we'll probably need to provide systemd-tmpfiles units in each
selinux-policy-* subpackage to create necessary directory structure.

 It will also mean rpm-ostree rollbacks by default won't affect the selinux
 policy, which is
 a major and unfortunate change.

 The listed benefit is:

  -moving the policy store out of /etc
 user could easily get back Factory setup by removing a directory out of
 /etc

The sub part is not listed anymore. And it's not even true.

 Note that OSTree provides that today - all the /etc defaults are copied into
 /usr/etc, so at any point you can easily reset things. (This is different
 from
 the systemd effort for an empty /etc).

 It seems far simpler to just keep things in /etc, but teach the tools to read
 /usr. Then *only if* I create a custom local policy, my changes are tracked
 in /etc, and the local compiled policy file lives there too.

Thanks for your comments,

Petr

DNF vs YUM, $pkg, $pkg-mpi, $pkg-openmpi having same provides

2015-06-11 Thread Sandro Mani

Hello,

Investigating bug #1230838, I noticed that when installing mmg3d-libs,
dnf installs Konsole output ptscotch-mpich, whereas yum-deprecated
installs scotch. Both scotch and ptscotch-mpich provide the required
libscotch.so.0()(64bit), albeit one in /usr/lib64/ and the other one in
/usr/lib64/mpich/lib/:

$ dnf repoquery --requires mmg3d-libs
[...]
libscotch.so.0()(64bit)
libscotcherr.so.0()(64bit)
[...]

$ dnf provides 'libscotch.so.0()(64bit)'
ptscotch-mpich-6.0.4-2.fc23.x86_64 : PT-Scotch libraries compiled
against mpich

Repo: rawhide

ptscotch-openmpi-6.0.4-2.fc23.x86_64 : PT-Scotch libraries compiled
against openmpi

Repo: rawhide

scotch-6.0.4-2.fc23.x86_64 : Graph, mesh and hypergraph partitioning library
Repo: rawhide

Konsole output $ dnf repoquery -l scotch.x86_64 | grep libscotch.so.0
/usr/lib64/libscotch.so.0
/usr/lib64/libscotch.so.0.2

Konsole output $ dnf repoquery -l ptscotch-mpich.x86_64 | grep
libscotch.so.0

/usr/lib64/mpich/lib/libscotch.so.0
/usr/lib64/mpich/lib/libscotch.so.0.2

$ dnf install mmg3d-libs
[...]
Installing:
 environment-modules   x86_64
3.2.10-14.fc23rawhide   117 k
 hwloc-libsx86_64
1.10.1-2.fc23 rawhide   1.3 M
 lzma-libs x86_64
4.32.7-13.fc22rawhide38 k
 mmg3d-libsx86_64
4.0.2-1.fc23  rawhide   211 k
 mpich x86_64
3.1.4-3.fc23  rawhide   1.1 M

 ptscotch-mpich

$ yum-deprecated install mmg3d-libs
[...]
Installing:
 mmg3d-libs x86_64
4.0.2-1.fc23 rawhide 211 k

Installing for dependencies:
 lzma-libs  x86_64
4.32.7-13.fc22   rawhide  38 k

 scotch

So, whose fault is this? Packaging of dnf? Nothing relevant for this
caught my eye skimming through the packaging guidelines.

And related: trying to install some $pkg-openmpi package, I don't
generally see packages enforcing that the -openmpi version of some
dependency library is installed as opposed to just the regular libs
package. Should such requires need to be stated explicitly?

Thanks,
Sandro

 The change page notes performance improvements. Can these be
 quantified? At the very least, that kind of stuff is very useful for
 marketing.

Yes, I agree it is very useful. It relates with CIL directly and it is a
part of policy store migration change. There are data coming from
SELinux Userspace upstream obtained on F20 and F21 policy.

For example, we should do a better job for bugs like

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1098446

I will attach an upstream discussion related to this topic.

And of course we want to get real results/numbers once it is a part of
rawhide by default.
