Re: F23 Self Contained Change: RPM MPI Requires Provides

Where are we with this? I see some F23 builds but no updates yet.

Formally, this Change has been removed from the scope of F23 as it
was not ready for Alpha, which is a requirement to have a Change in
 a release.
However Zbyszek told me yesterday that he is going to work on it and
would like to push this F23. So, lets see when it will be ready and
then decide whether it can still meet the F23.

 Regards,
 Jan
So the issues I pointed out in my previous mail (conerning
MPI_PYTHON_SITEARCH and MPI_FORTRAN_MOD_DIR) above have been
resolved. A batch of F24 rebuilts has been done by Zbyszek, hitting
some build failures along the way. Most of these are now fixed, still
needing a fix is nwchem which fails [1] due to what appears to be a
fortran use before decleared issue. Once a full set of working F23
package is built, the plan is to submit one big mass-update.

Should MPI packages be OK to push in f23 currently? I've just had
failures from auto-qa like this, though the build actually ran an MPI
test successfully:

not ok - depcheck for Koji build scalasca-2.2.2-2.fc23# FAIL

If anyone knowledgable of fortran has an idea how to fix the nwchem
issue, that should resolve the last pending issue. Appears to have
been triggered by a recent change of some other component, since it
rebuilt fine just a few weeks back when testing in copr.

Do you mean it's up to me to debug it? I don't think it's reasonable to

The other appears to be from Python rpm macros:

error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.Ytxu8V (%check)
   Macro %py2_install has unterminated body

This will show up on all arches due to:
 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1241655
 fix in:
 https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/epel-rpm-macros-7-3

Should only be fatal for packages that use the py2_install macro though I
 think.

OK, thanks. It looked as if it was the fatal failure, but maybe that
was just confusion with the test failure in this case.

Who else is it going be up to? :) BTW - I think it's ppc64, not ppc64le.
See

first I would get the openmpi folks take on it. They are very helpful.

Rawhide plans

2015-08-19 Thread Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.

We had some nice discussions about rawhide in my friday workshop at
flock. I thought I would post here to get input from folks not there,
and also allow people who were there to comment more now that it's not
after 5pm on a friday of the 3rd day of flock. ;)

* The problems/issues:

First we talked about current issues we see.

I think most everyone was in agreement that once you had a rawhide
install and were just applying updates, you were in pretty good shape.
Much better than you would have been a few years ago. There are bugs,
but they are often easy to workaround with downgrades until they are
fixed, etc. Also dnf tries very hard to not install anything thats part
of a set of broken deps, so while it might take longer to get some
packages you won't break your local install.

I think everyone also agreed that the pain points were around getting a
rawhide install in the first place:

1. boot/netinstall iso is often broken or not produced. Live media
likewise.

2. Upgrading from a stable release is also often hard due to broken
deps, resulting in having to remove packages just to get upgraded.

There was some mention of rawhide not being fully signed (which we
cannot do until we have gating of some kind and the sigul batch signing
bug fixed).

There was mention of larger rebuilds that didn't use side tags. It's
pretty easy to request a side tag from releng and use it to do all your
rebuilds and then get it tagged back in. When larger stacks don't do
this, they break things for a few days while they sort out all the
packages.

Finally there was mention of the baggage associated with the name
rawhide. To this day I see people telling others that rawhide will
eat your babies or rawhide is a methlab and will blow up in your face
every day.

Do you all see other issues ?

Next I divided things up into 3 time periods. What could we do to make
things better short term (in the next few weeks), medium term (next few
months), longer term (next year).

Short term:

* Hook up openqa to run on rawhide every night and give us data on how
often things are broken on the install path. This could be a seperate
report, or we could hook it up to the rawhide compose.

* Hook up taskotron to run checks on packages as they are built and
send at least to the maintainer about the broken deps. If the
maintainer sees their build causing lots of broken deps they can
untag it or get someone to rebuild all the other packages.

* pungi4 landing. pungi4 is a big re-write of our pungi tool. When we
enable this in rawhide it's going to make rawhide look a lot more
like release trees. Instead of having a rawhide/ dir with just trees
and boot isos, we will have Everything tree like we do at release
time, and server/cloud/workstation trees each with their own branded
netinstall isos, the server dvd and such. Also, pungi4 emits json
logs with exactly what was produced, so we can easily parse from day
to day and know what broke, etc.

* Matt opened a thread on the marketing list about renaming rawhide. It
sounds like most people would prefer us to make the changes first,
then and only then look at renaming.

Medium term:

* Setup some gating. I think it should work like this:

today you build a rawhide build and it tags into f24 tag, which is used
by the daily compose.

I'd like to change that to build into a f24-candidate tag. At that
point taskotron or other tests are run. If the package passes it goes
to f24-pending tag. When a compose happens we run taskotron or other
tests on the f24-pending packages and if they pass, they tag into f24
and the compose happens.

This gives us two points to check/test things. If someone needs to
override due to a check thats wrong or some other need, they can simply
use the existing koji command line client to tag their package over and
it will go out in the compose anyhow. Note that we will then have a log
of who did this. ;)

This will also hopefully allow us to enable autosign for rawhide
packages (if we can get the batch signing bug fixed) since we can sign
them at one of the above points.

Longer term:

* Put in place something so we can tell if a just rebuilt package is:

- in the mock init root
- in the deps for pungi4/mock/etc
- on the boot/netinstall isos
- on live media/images
- not on/used by anything in composes

If it is, then fire off a test rebuild of that thing, test it and only
let the new thing in if it doesn't fail. We can also then relax
requirements for leaf node type packages if we wish.

* Possibly drop daily rawhide composes in favor of just rebuilding
things when something in them changes. ie, new kernel build? then
rebuild images/trees, new cowsay, just rebuild the repo.

Feedback welcome.

kevin

New Package: python-scandir

2015-08-19 Thread Avram Lubkin
Just thought I'd let this list know python-scandir is now in the stable
repos. The code itself has been accepted as an enhancement to the os module
in Python 3.5, but the original independent module is great for older
versions. I tend to use as an optional speedup when I am heavily using
os.walk() or os.listdir(). The maintainer has been very responsive.

How will f24-build be affected by this?

This gives us two points to check/test things. If someone needs to
override due to a check thats wrong or some other need, they can simply
use the existing koji command line client to tag their package over and
it will go out in the compose anyhow. Note that we will then have a log
 of who did this. ;)

This will also hopefully allow us to enable autosign for rawhide
packages (if we can get the batch signing bug fixed) since we can sign
them at one of the above points.

Rawhide rebrand:

Something akin to openSUSE's Tumbleweed name.

Maybe reuse the Fedora.Next name? Something that implies its rolling
release / pre-release. Fedora Testing? For some reason Fedora Tophat just
popped into my head as a pun on hats and being ontop of updates.

Finally there was mention of the baggage associated with the name
rawhide. To this day I see people telling others that rawhide will
eat your babies or rawhide is a methlab and will blow up in your face

As a relative newcomer (using Fedora since ~F20) the name rawhide does
seem to have some implied broken-ness, if that's a word. I would be in
favor of a name change/rebrand that makes it a little more approachable.

One thing I would like to see is that Fedora's development code could
reach a state where something like openSUSE's Tumbleweed would be possible.
If we could take daily/weekly/biweekly snapshots of the repositories for
people to use as a rolling release like the way the openSUSE folks are
doing, I think that would go a long way to enabling a higher scale of
testing of code that makes it into Fedora releases. I don't want use to let
go of normal releases, but I feel that the people who want to have that
rolling model should be able to from Fedora and expect a reasonable level
of things working.

If we're able to do something like this, the rawhide name could certainly
stay for the development code, but a new name for these snapshots would be
appropriate.

Rescheduled: Planned Outage: fedorahosted lists migration - Now at: 2015-08-21 08:00 UTC

2015-08-19 Thread Kevin Fenzi
We ran into some issues importing archives, and so are going to fix
those and retry the migration on friday (2015-08-21) at the same time.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I personally would prefer the name be preserved if at all possible, but if
the marketing gurus feel otherwise, so be it.

Making whatever changes you're going to make first would make the most
sense IMHO, as
far as the name is concerned... if you DO decide to change it, you should
just jettison
the nickname like we did for the naming of new releases. Just name it
unstable.

Re: Sponsors - who does (not) work on FE-NEEDSPONSOR tickets

2015-08-19 Thread Christoph Wickert
2015-08-15 9:13 GMT+02:00 Miroslav Suchý msu...@redhat.com:
Recently we had discussion here about the queue of package reviews with
 FE-NEEDSPONSOR flag.
I suggested to write some script which would query db and reveal those
sponsors who does not make his duty.

 Here comes this script:
https://github.com/xsuchy/guard-fedora-sponsors

It is first version and I'm sure there will be some false negatives. The
 current logic is:
 1. query FAS to get all usernames from packager group who are sponsors
 2. for each such user get all bugs from past 365 day for Package Review
component which are assigned to this sponsor
 3. give the sponsor some credit when he changed bug status (to whatever
state) as this indicate some work on this bug
 4. give the sponsor some credit if he remove FE-NEEDSPONSOR from blocking
bugs as this indicate finishing sponsor work

This does not reflect if you sponsor somebody directly.

Hi Miroslav,

this is not the only problem with your script. I think the underlying
definition of sponsoring work is flawed.

A sponsor not only sponsors new contributors into the packager group
but acts as guide ever after. Even though I have not accepted any new
candidates throughout the last year, I still look after all of my 24
protégés. I not only answer questions when they occur, I also look at
every commit, build and update. This of course, takes some time and
thus limits the number of packagers a sponsor can take care of.

While I see the need for sponsoring new contributors in a timely
manner, I always found the focus on sponsoring as many as possible
questionable. And I'm afraid your script can encourage this behavior,
no matter if the output says no sponsor work or recent sponsor
activity. I think the least you should do is change the wording to
has not accepted any new candidates or alike, but you will never be
able to know who did actual sponsor work.

Best regards,
Christoph

Finally there was mention of the baggage associated with the name
rawhide. To this day I see people telling others that rawhide will
eat your babies or rawhide is a methlab and will blow up in your face
 every day.

Boo, hiss on the idea. IMO the Rawhide name is appropriate and meaningful.
Another is unlikely to better serve. Plus there's baggage that goes with any
name change, including a disruption in historical record. Did we learn
nothing from the yum to dnf switch?

 Kevin Fenzi ke...@scrye.com wrote:

2. Upgrading from a stable release is also often hard due to broken

dnf works much better than yum for this. You can use distro-sync with
the --allowerasing option to do an update. If there are file conflicts,
you might have to remove a handful of packages and retry it. You can use
script to keep track of what actually got erased. You might need to upgrade
the kernel first as distro-sync may try to remove your running kernel and
then abort the update. If you run rawhide nodebug kernels this won't
normally be an issue.

A few days ago I went from f22 to branched on a system with over 17000
packages installed and things went well. I had to remove a couple of
packages that had a file conflict before being able to do the update and
one package's clean up script hung and I had to manually kill it to let the
upgrade procede.

rpmfusion is messed up for branched and rawhide right now (the packages
haven't been rebuilt since f22 and this is resulting in soname conflicts)
so having the superior depsolving of dnf is really useful right now.

Re: Rawhide plans

2015-08-19 Thread Eric Griffith
Personally, if it weren't for the confusion, I think Fedora Next would be
the perfect name for this. But the confusion exists so... we either don't
use it, or we -do- use it and Marketing makes an announcement that as as
part of the continuously-changing plans of what defines Fedora Next they
are adding a more-stable Rawhide to the list of goals. This new initiative
will share the name. Still might be a little confusing but if it would be
announced along side Fedora Next news then -maybe- itd be less confusing?
Kind of bringing the more stable rawhide under the Fedora Next
umbrella.

So you think public shaming is the way to bully people into sponsoring more

I can easily hit the sponsor button on 10 random people a week to make

that!

Best regards,
Christoph

I was about to send just the same thing.

Also this command is right solution, if all packages have same prefix (but
my packages doesnt have same prefix, and I don't want to hardcode all
 package names there)
dnf --enablerepo=MYREPO update $(sudo dnf list installed | grep
 PREFIX_OF_MY_PACKAGES* | cut -f1 -d )

I don't quite follow. Why don't you use dnf repository-packages? It works the
same as yum's equivalent.

I can use yum-deprecated, buts iits somehow awkward :)

Yes, yum-deprecated is ultimately going to be removed so we generally
discourage users from using it if not necessary.

After update to dnf-1.1.0-2.fc22.noarch, this same command
 dnf -y repository-packages MYREPO update
takes 5 minutes or more, and update is just few kilobytes.

If you think it's a bug and not e.g. network latency, feel free to report it.

Thanks

Not really sure how we're going to handle the notifications stuff. I'm
not crazy about putting any time into the bodhi_comment directive but
because of the lack of notice we had on this change, fedmsg emission
isn't ready and probably won't be ready for at least a week or two.

I suspect that we'll need to take a stab at fixing the bodhi_comment

The discussion around this will continue as we figure out what to do
 about it :-/

After a few releases and much futzing, this should be ready to go once
D511 is pushed and included in the next release.

I was testing on dev but all of a sudden the clients couldn't talk to
bodhi.stg and more testing was rather pointless. Hopefully we'll get
this all figured out tomorrow before the downtime starts.

stg was inadvertantly updated and is failing just about everything.
once we get a new release and fix some of the if deployment_type ==
dev bits, it should work but I'm having trouble getting at least some
of the stg clients to communicate with bodhi.stg as well.

Re: DNF - Update packages from specific repository with dependencies

2015-08-19 Thread Zelja Tux
I tried the deprecated command yum and it works:
yum-deprecated -y repository-packages MYREPO update
yum-deprecated -y repo-pkgs MYREPO update

Also this command is right solution, if all packages have same prefix (but
my packages doesnt have same prefix, and I don't want to hardcode all
package names there)
dnf --enablerepo=MYREPO update $(sudo dnf list installed | grep
PREFIX_OF_MY_PACKAGES* | cut -f1 -d )

I can use yum-deprecated, buts iits somehow awkward :)

After update to dnf-1.1.0-2.fc22.noarch, this same command
dnf -y repository-packages MYREPO update
takes 5 minutes or more, and update is just few kilobytes.

Just want to update all installed packages from my repository with DNF (I
dont wan't to update system repos (fedora, updates, etc).

Thanks
Zelja

Earlier version of DNF (maybe few weeks ago), throw these messages while
 doing upgrade:
Package SOMEPACKAGE1 not installed, cannot update it
Package SOMEPACKAGE2 not installed, cannot update it
Package SOMEPACKAGE3 not installed, cannot update it
Package SOMEPACKAGE4 not installed, cannot update it

I assume that the problem could be in the fact that DNF is trying to
update ALL packages from my custom repository MYREPO, but on my PC, I use
only few of those packages (have installed) just a few packages.

  I use following on Fedora 22 x86_64:

  dnf -y repo-pkgs MYREPO upgrade

Upgrade is successfull, but it takes VERY LONG time to complete (5mins).

  If I use following:

  Upgrade fails with:

  Yum command worked fine.
  yum -y repo-pkgs MYREPO update

 Does

 dnf -y repository-packages MYREPO upgrade

 not work?

Re: Build root prepared by DNF is way larger

2015-08-19 Thread Vít Ondruch
Dne 18.8.2015 v 16:26 Vít Ondruch napsal(a):
 Hi all,

Today, I noticed that mock build root prepared by DNF is significantly
larger then prepared by YUM (see attached logs). Owners of packages
installed into minimal buildroot probably wants to review their
 dependency chain.

I also reported the issue against DNF [1] in case DNF guys wants to
 improve this situation.

 Vít

 [1] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1254634

Please note that the issue was already resolved in mock upstream, but
you need to have DNF 1.1 to make it work, if I am not mistaken.
