I've no idea. I just know it works.

GNOME's inbuilt screen recorder does it fine.

Does that use a Gnome shell-specific API or does Wayland have support
for that now?

But there are probably many more packages where the setting is hidden in
upstream build scripts.

Older Fedoras only since F22 updates / F24 GA, see:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=902094

And what about EL?

+1. And, for that matter, that goes even for standard USING, as you implied
in the previous paragraph:

> Because I don't even have the "-modular" repositories enabled on my

As you explained pretty well, it does not make sense to FORCE modules onto
users. Even less so if those packages are dependencies of other packages
outside of the module walled garden. Ursa Major is a crude hack to make that
broken setup work.

mass-removal of LANG=anything-not-C.UTF-8 in packages

2018-11-05 Thread Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek
Dear maintainers,

I'm working again on implementing
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Remove_glibc-langpacks-all_from_buildroot.
The first step is to replace LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 with LC_ALL=C.UTF-8
(and similarly for LANG=, LC_CTYPE=, etc.) in all spec files. This
will be backwards and forwards compatible, in the sense that packages
that use C.UTF-8 should build OK on older and newer Fedoras.

Once that's done, I'll file the PRs to actually replace glibc-langpacks-all
with glibc-minimal-langpacks in mock and koji.

I'll do a mass update to use C.UTF-8 for the packages in the list that
follows, next week. I'll do test builds locally, and I'll only push to
dist-git if the local builds succeed. Let me know if you want your
package to be excluded.

Until now, I've been mostly keeping quiet about the whole modularity
thing - in part, because I disagree with the direction the concrete
implementation has been taken in;
I didn't see it as useful to me, and it has not impacted me as a
packager who only builds standard packages. TL;DR: I want to keep it
that way (at least for now).

What exactly does "could be alleviated" mean here - would that "simple
change" to mock make it just 90% more cumbersome, instead of 100%?
What would the new workflow look like?

A bit more difficult ... how, exactly?
Do I have to solve the Riemann Hypothesis before calling that command
- or what would be the added difficulty here?

> Of course local builds where the build deps are
> already installed will not be impacted.

Do you mean host-system-local, or mock-local builds?
Because I don't even have the "-modular" repositories enabled on my
f29 system, and I'll keep it that way.

> With this in mind, we wanted
> to open this up to some discussion on list before we make a decision.

I have to say, making core, non-leaf packages available as modules
only sounds like a *terrible* idea to me.
I don't want to have to deal with this uncooked mess if I just want to
do standard packaging.

Heck, as things stand right now, I'd even volunteer to maintain
"standard branches" of my dependencies which are "in danger" of being
converted to module-only, just to not have to deal with modules.

I understand that modularity can have benefits for some work-flows and
some specific packages, but this effort sure looks like jumping on the
band-wagon just because it's the new, shiny thing, without considering
the consequences.

Please don't take this criticism the wrong way - I acknowledge that
releng and FESCo are doing hard work here.
I'm just not convinced that this work is actually benefiting fedora as
a developer platform / platform to develop for.

Re: [Test-Announce] Proposal to CANCEL: 2018-11-05 Fedora QA Meeting

2018-11-05 Thread Silvia Sánchez
Hello all,

While I have an interesting bug in Dnfdragora, I don't think it's super
urgent, so if you want, we can skip this week and have a meeting the other
week?
I have one or two other little issues I'd like to discuss, but again
nothing to die for.

Kind regards,

There were a couple of things that weren't clear in the proposal or the meeting:

1. Can you use rpmbuild to rebuild packages with this change? Or do
you have to use mock or koji to do so?
2. How do sites which rebuild Fedora work with this?
3. Where do the bits which are getting added get built from and what
is their build history?
4. For buildsystems outside of koji how do they work?

I expect all the answers are benign, but it might make things clearer
to the effects.

[EPEL-devel] Re: EPEL6 conntrack-tools-0.9.13-3.el6.x86_64 metadata possibly incorrect

2018-11-05 Thread John Griffin
Hello Stephen,

We mirror the EPEL5 and EPEL7 repositories, but I really don’t know if there
are other issues with those or EPEL6. The only reason I stumbled upon this one
was due to the fact that the munin update in Sept 2018 now requires
conntrack-tools. There may be others, and this also maybe be the only one.

I will request from RH the technical details they use when applying date
filters in Satellite, maybe with that I can scan the other RPM’s in our mirrors
for other hits.

Hello Stephen,

Yes, we have the conntrack-tools in our Red Hat Satellite repository, and we
can apply it outside of our Satellite process; by manually copying the rpm to
each server and installing outside of our process.

The issue is the interworking of the metatdata in the conntrack-tools RPM and
Red Hat Satellite date filters for Content Views. Not sure how familiar you are
with Red Hat Satellite, but the data filters are the primary method used to
create a cyclical patching schedule and thus patch sets based on date.

In Red Hat Satellite, if I specify any date inclusion (Like from January 1,
1970 - October 12, 2018) and point it at the EPEL6 repository the filter does
not pick up the conntrack-tools. I opened support case with Red Hat, and with
their assistance we have a work around, where we don't specify any Satellite
date filters for the EPEL repositories (i.e. Get Everything no matter when
released) and yes still keep the Satellite date filters on the official Red Hat
repositories used to create the combined Satellite content view.

However this work-around does not allow us to recreate a patch content view of
EPEL product or patches of any date other than 'today'. Without a date filter
we get all EPEL content and patches. This does not work with our Patching
paradigm, as we base patch sets on Date. We then use life-cycle management to
promote a patch set to Production after it has been vetted on Dev then Test.

Red Hat does not support EPEL, and indicated this is not a Satellite issue but
a RPM metadata issue with EPEL release process.

I will check but I am not sure it is a problem we can solve quickly as I don't
know how Satellite categorizes dates currently. Do you also mirror anything
from other non Red Hat Network repositories and do they have the problem also?
[I am mostly looking to see if we are not setting something up we should or not]

Let me know if you need further clarification.

I need more information like what you are exactly seeing. The conntrack-tools
is in the repository and can be downloaded and installed via yum and reposync.

Cassandra package looking for human power

2018-11-05 Thread Jakub Janco
Hello Fedora developers and maintainers,

Apache Cassandra is a free and open-source distributed NoSQL database written
in Java, we have a package since Fedora 27, I am a maintainer for about a year
with a help of Augusto Caringi, but currently we dont have enought capacity to
keep it up-to-date.

State in Fedora:
- older Cassandra version 3.11.1 with backported fix for CVE-2018-8016 from
3.11.2
- generally working, no issues in Bugzilla
- 2 main packages are cassandra(client tools) and cassandra-server(database
server)
- removed Thrift interface

We also have docker container[1], software collection[2] and tests[3].

Current goal is to update Cassandra to 3.11.3 version. This is not that easy
because of Thrift API, there are 2 ways:
1. rebase patch which removes Thrift interface, it is not trivial, the patch is
quite big and touch almost everything
2. package missing dependencies for Thrift interface

Nice to have:
- dnf module
- SELinux policy

If you have any questions or you are interested, do not hessitate to contact me.

Thanks.

Ursa Major (modules in buildroot) enablement

2018-11-05 Thread Justin Forbes
This is related to an open ticket to Release Engineering
(https://pagure.io/releng/issue/7840) which was brought to FESCo
(https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2003). We understand the need to
enable this, but there is an impact to workflow for local builds. It
is possible that some of this could be alleviated with a fairly simple
change to mock.
The ability to install all builddeps with dnf builddep will be a bit
more difficult. Of course local builds where the build deps are
already installed will not be impacted. With this in mind, we wanted
to open this up to some discussion on list before we make a decision.

Thanks,
Justin

Is there a bug report for this?

Probably:) But I haven’t checked. It’s 2018. I’m getting sick of telling
people:

1. use unicode.
2. use unicode mechanisms like PUA for special non-standard glyphs.
3. apply Fedora fonts packaging guidelines so apps find the result
4. use Opentype only (ttf and otf). Do not ship multiple special
feel-good just-in-case cargo culted font formats that confuse apps.
4. write the fontconfig file our guidelines request so your font get
picked by fontconfig substitution
5. for fonts intended for use in terms and code editors: get your font
aliases in “monospace”. And make sure your font is actually monospace.

Regards,

A lighter weight alternative might be PureLine:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd do it in copr and mass rebuild everything (all python3 packages) in
it. If it works, I'd assume it is safe.

If there are FTBFS, I'd investigate if they are setuptools related.
Feel free o bring any possible setuptools related problems here so we
can all try to figure them out.
