Missing package build for Fedora 34

2021-06-26 Thread Rajeesh K V
Hello package wranglers,

I maintain the python-cffsubr package for Fedora. It was added to the
repo and built on 2021-03-17 (during the beta freeze timeline of
Fedora 34).

The package was built for f33, f34 & f35; see [1]. But probably
because of beta freeze, the f34 build didn’t go to repo. That build is
now deleted in koji. I have tried ‘fedpkg build && fedpkg update’
(after the build was deleted) but that errors out with the message
“package is already built”.

Question is, how do I create a build for f34 and push it to stable
channel now? Do I have to bump the release and create a fresh build? I
have checked the package maintenance guidelines and ask.fp.org etc.,
but didn’t find a way to accomplish that. Any pointers would be
appreciated.

This is ambiguous... Are you going to rebuild the dependencies or are you
expecting the maintainers to rebuild? In a side-tag?

wlroots 0.14.0 is coming to rawhide

2021-06-26 Thread Aleksei Bavshin

Greetings,

wlroots 0.14.0 was released this week with a lot of bugfixes, new pixman
software renderer for not-so-recent hardware and continuation of
renderer refactoring. As usual, the update is API and ABI breaking and
all dependent packages must be rebuilt.

I'll be taking care of all rebuilds except `cage`, `labwc` and
`wayfire`. I'll notify maintainers of those packages additionally (and
send a PR with compatibility patches for `labwc`) once the side-tag is
ready.
`phoc` will continue using wlroots0.12 compat package; no actions
required here.

Rawhide update ETA is in a week from this message or when all the
required builds are complete.

Best regards,
Aleksei Bavshin

Re: New RPM submission

2021-06-26 Thread Stephen John Smoogen
The process is complicated for multiple reasons:
1. There are a lot of steps to deal with corner cases which have come
up over the years which need to be dealt with.
2. There are some steps to make sure that the package is going to be
maintained versus just dropped and forgotten as a lot of packages have
been.
3. There are a lot of warts/headaches/problems which have been there
but people who have packaged for 20 years no longer see (or in a
Stockholm syndrome feel they NEED to be there.)

In packaging software there are a set of steps you need to ask yourself:

1. Why are you wanting to do this task?
2. What do you expect to get out of this?
3. How committed are you to continually packaging this software?
4. What does this software bring to a complete operating system?
5. Why this operating system?

The first three questions are mostly about personal motivations but it
is something that I see people not answering and then burning
themselves out on finding out how complicated packaging is. Packaging
up software is a long term commitment. It is saying 'I think this
software is useful and will be maintained for years at a time.' If the
software is more of a short term project or you really don't think
that you (or others) want to keep fixing/maintaining it for years..
then the software doesn't really need to be in a distribution but in
some sort of PPA or COPR.

The fourth and fifth are to deal with marketing the software. Just
having it in a distribution isn't going to get it to be used. [In most
distribution early years, they don't take this part seriously and then
end up with hundreds or thousands of ghost packages which end up being
a pain. A distribution then starts adding more 'does anyone need this
really???' type roadblocks which may go into overkill. Or it may be
that putting it in the operating system is going to be a headache the
entire time because the way the operating system deals with the
language set is more work than you care for.

For Fedora/RHEL, programs written in newer languages like Java, Go,
Rust are going to have a lot of rules which seem completely
antithetical to how the language is set up elsewhere. Getting software
written in these is going to need a LOT of extra work which requires
even more dedication. [I am not saying that they shouldn't be done,
but it is more like the 'packaging game' is set to Instadeath/Torment
X mode.

It would have, if you didn't patch it in yourself, according to the .spec file:

# Downgrade owned-ttf-parser to 0.6

Rust dependency detection bug

2021-06-26 Thread Rémi Lauzier via devel
Hi.
There seem to have a bug with rust dependency detection with owned_ttf-parser.
I am not sure what components create the bug.
https://github.com/alexheretic/ab-glyph/issues/37#issuecomment-868976786

It should have detect that the version doesn't match.

Re: use unit names in systemd output by default?

2021-06-26 Thread Paweł Marciniak
I've written a code heavily based on the above-mentioned PR:15957 but I've
added some missing code (new option StatusUnitFormat=combined).

Now you can set StatusUnitFormat=combined in the configuration file or as a
kernel command line argument systemd.status_unit_format=combined
The output format is unit_name (unit description)

Live system examples:

combined:
Jun 26 18:24:19 fedora systemd[1]: Starting firewalld.service (firewalld -
dynamic firewall daemon)...
Jun 26 18:24:20 fedora systemd[1]: Started firewalld.service (firewalld -
dynamic firewall daemon).

name:
Jun 26 18:31:06 fedora systemd[1]: Starting firewalld.service...
Jun 26 18:31:06 fedora systemd[1]: Started firewalld.service.

description:
Jun 26 18:32:04 fedora systemd[1]: Starting firewalld - dynamic firewall
daemon...
Jun 26 18:32:04 fedora systemd[1]: Started firewalld - dynamic firewall daemon.

Bug ID: 1976453
   Summary: F35FailsToInstall: perl-Alien-pkgconf
   Product: Fedora
   Version: rawhide
Status: NEW
 Component: perl-Alien-pkgconf
  Assignee: ppi...@redhat.com

Classification: Fedora

Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that
this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhron...@redhat.com).

Your package (perl-Alien-pkgconf) Fails To Install in Fedora 35:

can't install perl-Alien-pkgconf:
  - nothing provides libpkgconf-devel(x86-64) = 1.7.3 needed by
perl-Alien-pkgconf-0.17-7.fc35.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please
acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to
maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent
packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs
(https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/),
your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer
than the latest compose or the content on mirrors.

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple
dependent packages, please consider using side tags:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!
