Sorry about that.

You could add them in as co-maintainers, provided you are willing to
show them how packaging works, etc.

See:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_get_sponsored_into_the_packager_group#Become_a_co-maintainer

Did they or you ever submit the packages for review?

They (or you) may also want to post to the python-sig list instead of
the main devel list. Sometimes things get really busy here and people
miss posts.

I'd say it's much better not to, yes.

Well, does 'desktop' mean 'gnome-sig' there? Or all desktops?
And there's no mobility sig group that I am aware of.

So, yeah, it's murky.

Possibly, but mapping them could be difficult, so perhaps just better to
let people self tag.

I meant to bring this up at todays meeting, but forgot. ;(

I think it is a good idea to change the meeting process to add a comment
that the issue will be discussed at the next meeting as part of putting
together the agenda. I suppose we could make a null commit to the wiki
page about it, but I am less convinced thats useful. Wiki watches are
pretty useless because they only tell you about the very next commit and
then go away. :(

I'm out next week, but I filed https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2646 to
amend the process.

No, just my FAS ID, however, I was able to login fine from Google Chrome on
my F33 workstation, but not from Google Chrome on my work computer (Windows
10) so it seems it may be an OS centric issue?

And I still get the popup login request on Windows that I've always clicked
"Cancel" to get to the real log in.

Thanks,

Sorry did not know you were working on this, I was helping Sahana
taking up some slack, and I am new to the package.

That makes it easier, but I still do not want to break potential users.

Python package and "vendorize"

2021-07-12 Thread Tony Asleson
Upstream pywbem project took 2 internal libraries and broke them out
into separate libraries. I asked if they would be OK with maintaining
these new packages in fedora and they said yes[1]. They followed the
process and asked for a sponsor and got no response [2].

They have now pitched the idea of using "vendorize" to meet this
requirement [3]. However, I believe the answer to this from a fedora
packaging standpoint is no. Is this correct?

I would think if the upstream project could somehow use vendorize
before they packaged the upstream release tarball, that it would be
OK?

Thanks!

A little more is provided.

You need some of the name tables for certain use cases.

This is based on Intel's clear linux work in splitting the data.

If you can minimally provide the tables of possible zones, and provide
an easy way to detect a zone is missing, then the APIs can determine:
"Yes you could do that, but your system is missing the data."
vs.
"That is an invalid zone."
Which is a useful distinction.

Re: F35 Change: tzdata-minimal (Self-Contained Change proposal)

2021-07-12 Thread Petr Viktorin

On 06. 07. 21 20:38, David Cantrell wrote:

On Tue, Jul 06, 2021 at 01:20:47PM -0400, Ben Cotton wrote:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/tzdata-minimal

== Summary ==
Split the tzdata package into two parts - tzdata and tzdata-minimal.
tzdata will require tzdata-minimal.  tzdata-minimal provides the
minimal files needed to support UTC on containers.

== Owner ==
* Name: Patsy Griffin (Franklin)
* Email: pa...@redhat.com

== Detailed Description ==
This is the first step towards providing support for a minimal, UTC
only, version of tzdata for containers.  The tzdata-minimal package
will be a stand-alone, UTC only, subset of tzdata. The tzdata package
will require tzdata-minimal.

With this framework in place, other packages can develop code to
detect a minimal tzdata installation.  These packages will also need
to provide appropriate messages when users request timezone
information not available when only tzdata-minimal is installed.

== Feedback ==
We have had requests for this functionality in order to support
minimal container installations.  Currently some container kickstart
installations already ad hoc remove most of the timezone information
provided by tzdata, leaving only UTC support available.  This change
provides a formal method of providing this support.

Both the glibc and python teams are aware of this proposed change.
This change does not currently require changes in their code.  The
goal is for those packages that currently require tzdata as part of
their build or install, move towards recommending tzdata instead.

Python should work well without *any* tzdata installed.
But having only a small subset of timezones would result in issues
unique to Fedora-based systems (assuming those are the only systems that
split tzdata).

We could theoretically patch Python to give reasonable error messages.
But since the consumer of the tz data (the zoneinfo module) was only
added in Python 3.9 (last year), existing applications mainly use
third-party modules instead of the standard library. I assume that like
Python, these modules expect tzinfo to either be missing entirely or be
all there.

And I expect this is the case for more than just Python modules.

Is it reasonable for glibc to hardcode the +0 fallback timezone, rather
than needing the zoneinfo file for it? If so, we could remove tzdata
from minimal containers entirely.

Or is that too naive?

== Benefit to Fedora ==
This change will reduce the size of base container installations.

== Scope ==
* Proposal owners: Implement the proposal.
* Other developers: Developers need to ensure that their packages
continue to build and install with the new split tzdata/tzdata-minimal
package changes.

* Release engineering: No coordination required with Release Engineering.
* Policies and guidelines: The policies and guidelines do not need to
be updated.
* Trademark approval: N/A (not needed for this Change)
* Alignment with Objectives: N/A

== Upgrade/compatibility impact ==
The only visible change will be a new package tzdata-minimal required
by tzdata.

== How To Test ==
Run a dnf upgrade of tzdata and observe that tzdata-minimal is now
also installed as a dependency.

== User Experience ==
Users will see that new updates to tzdata include a new package
dependency on tzdata-minimal.

== Dependencies ==
This change does not require or depend on changes to other packages.
However, we hope that dependent packages will work towards
recommending tzdata for builds and installs rather than requiring it.

== Contingency Plan ==
* Contingency mechanism: If we are unable to complete this feature by
the final development freeze, we will revert to the shipped
configuration.
* Contingency deadline: 100% Code complete deadline
* Blocks release? No

== Documentation ==
No documentation changes are needed at this time.

== Release Notes ==
The tzdata package is now divided into a UTC only package,
tzdata-minimal, and tzdata.

What is supposed to be in tzdata-minimal?  Is it
/usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC or that and more?

Forcibly removing tzdata on a fresh Fedora VM that I just set up has
the system fall back to UTC, as expected.  On this incredibly small
install, tzdata is required glibc-common, python3-libs, and
python3-dateutil.  The last one is reasonable, but for all of them I
ask if tzdata is actually a hard dependency or if it can become a weak
dependency and this change proposal could become "make tzdata
something easily removable" rather than creating more tzdata packages.

For python3-libs, I would have no issue with tzdata a weak dependency.
For users of python3-dateutil, I'd suggest using the Python standard
library instead, where possible.

That's super useful thank you! Adding stuff to ubi8-micro from F34 is
awkward (GPG keys, running rebuilddb to get a sqlite rpmdb, etc). I
might copy the build script which I found at -
https://github.com/fatherlinux/ubi-micro/blob/master/ubi8-micro

It is already being discussed here:
https://github.com/smuellerDD/libkcapi/issues/115

Please in the future at least look at open pull requests before you
push something to dist-git. I had started the rebase to 1.3 already
[1], but was holding it off because of the ABI change (though to be
fair I didn't note that in the PR).

AFAIK, no other package in Fedora currently links against libkcapi, so
there should be no impact on other packages.

Undetected ABI change in libkcapi (rawhide)

2021-07-12 Thread Simo Sorce
Hello,
I just rebased libkcapi in Rawhide, without realizing there was an ABI
change.
The ABI change should affect only S390 but I am discussing with the
author on handling this better given the library does use symbol
versioning.

So I may "revert" this ABI change in short order.

Apologies if any build will have issues between today and when I will
be able to handle it, if you have any concerns please let me know.

Simo.

OpenCL quickdoc PR update (https://pagure.io/fedora-docs/quick-docs/pull-request/356)

2021-07-12 Thread jatin garg via devel
I want to give an update on this PR
https://pagure.io/fedora-docs/quick-docs/pull-request/356
However unable to login due to either an `OpenID request was cancelled` or
`Strange state: failure`. If anyone from the fedora team is here please add to
this thread that the guide itself has to be updated constantly and that is why
I am hesitant to put it in quickdocs now.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/m2il41/guide_installing_opencl_alongside_mesa_drivers/

I have been editing, updating the guide with each openCL update and issues
reported by the users. And also from the help of other people, one of them
created copr repo to support the guide and solve a mesa 21.1.1 + bug with
OpenCL (https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/rmnscnce/amdgpu-pro-shims/)
which tricks AMDGPU-PRO OpenCL to use Mesa libraries. And also updating it
according to software specific issues.

Keeping this in mind it will be hard to reach community quicker in a PR
environment. For example solution to people facing instant issues due to an
update must be reflected in the guide quickly.

The PR itself can be closed accordingly.

Pcre2 libpcre2-posix.so soname bump

2021-07-12 Thread Lukas Javorsky
Hi,

I'm announcing the soname bump of the *libpcre2-posix.so *library (pcre2
package) happening this Wednesday.

Library has some ABI changes which lead to this bump (you can read more
about it here under 10.37 version).

We are including the old soname library to prevent some running errors for
the dependencies. After rebuilding all of the packages, we will remove it
from the pcre2 package.

This change impact several packages listed below:
carbon-c-relay-3.7.2-1.fc35.src.rpm
haproxy-2.4.0-5.fc35.src.rpm
mariadb-10.5.11-1.fc35.src.rpm
metis-5.1.0-29.fc34.src.rpm
pcre2-10.36-4.fc35.src.rpm
util-linux-2.37-2.fc35.src.rpm
xterm-368-1.fc35.src.rpm

I'm CCing all the main maintainers of these packages to give them heads-up.

We're planning the rebuild on the 14th of July 2021 (07.14.2021), so if you
have any questions or reasons why not to do that, please let me know ASAP.

The actual rebase PR is here:
 https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/pcre2/pull-request/2#

Thanks and have a great day
Lukas

Permanent Updates Policy exception for PrusaSlicer, Cura, Black, tox, HTTPie and ownCloud Desktop Client

2021-07-12 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hello,

I happen to maintain some applications in Fedora where I am strongly confident
our users would prefer "latest and greatest" over 100 % "stability" of the user
interface and/or results.

For some of them, I've been more or less silently breaking the Updates Policy
hoping that nothing would break (nothing did so far). For others, I've
requested FESCo exceptions for individual updates. I'd like to request a
*permanent exception* to allow upgrading the following tools and apps to latest
versions in stable Fedora releases.

For transparency reasons, I've decided to share the list of packages on this
mailing list before approaching FESCo. If you see potential problems, do let me
know.

PrusaSlicer and Cura (3D printer control apps)
==

- prusa-slicer
- cura (and dependencies):
  - CuraEngine
  - cura-fdm-materials
  - libarcus
  - libnest2d
  - libsavitar
  - python-pynest2d
  - python-uranium

IMHO users want the latest features to support their latest 3D printers and
having an outdated version only makes them reach for an alternate source of
PrusaSlicer / Cura.

Black (Python code formatter)
=

- python-black

See also https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2259 and
https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2525

Black is a code formatter with very strict rules. One of the benefit of using
black is the determinism of its output. By running black on code twice, it is
guaranteed (well, claimed) to produce no changes. When updating it however, new
changes might appear on a codebase that was previously considered "OK".

With each release, there might be several subtle changes in formatting, however
I expect users who install black from RPM to prefer the latest version of black
over total stability of its output. Who needs 100 % stability can "pin" exact
black version in their requirements / pipenv /poetry file and get it form PyPI.

Tox (standardized Python test executor)
===

- python-tox

Tox aims to automate and standardize testing in Python.
As new standards happen, tox is adapted upstream. It very rarely breaks
backwards compatibility. Unlike other Python development tools, it is much more
beneficial to have tox installed in the system Python stack and not in a
virtual environment. I'd like to always provide the latest and greatest tox to
our users = Python developers.

Note that this exception would not apply to the planned entire rewrite (i.e.
tox version 4), only to latest tox 3.

HTTPie (command-line HTTP client)
=

- httpie

"HTTPie is a user-friendly command-line HTTP client for the API era. It comes
with JSON support, syntax highlighting, persistent sessions, wget-like
downloads, plugins, and more." The command line interface is generally very
stable and the upstream developers are very interested in seeing the latest
version in stable Fedora releases (and eventually also EPEL, but that is out of
scope here).

ownCloud Desktop Client
===

- owncloud-client

As OwnCloud serves are updated, users might need the latest version of the
client installed to be able to use them. Hence, I'd like to be able to update
this package freely.

OTOH I don't actually plan to do that often, because I maintain the package "to
scratch my own itch" and I would only do that if the server used by our
university requires client updates. However, if co-maintainers appear, this
could happen more often.

Thanks for any feedback.

Community Platform Engineering Quarterly ~~Bragging Rights~~ Report Q2 2021

2021-07-12 Thread Aoife Moloney
Hi Everyone,

Below you will find a report of the work the Community Platform Engineering
(CPE) team was involved in over the last three months. If you would like to
view this in a 'toggle-able' view, I would suggest you visit this hackmd
link https://hackmd.io/@Ap8CkTlpSfmjb44UGV-kWA/BJlrOsBpu

## Intro
The Community Platform Engineering team is a group of people who work on
infrastructure, release engineering, documentation, development and just
about anything else you can think of that supports both the CentOS and
Fedora projects.
In an effort to try work even more effectively and improve on our work
planning, we have been scheduling some of our work on a quarterly basis for
the last 15-18 months. And its been working pretty well...once we got the
hang of it :)
This in a nutshell, just means that there is work the CPE team *will
commit* to delivering every quarter that relates to both distros, while
also still providing support to the projects infrastructure that come in as
bugs, tickets, etc.
Quarter two 2021, or April, May and June to give them their government
names, has been a particularly good quarter for our team with a lot of work
getting completed. Below is a breakdown of what our team delivered over the
quarter per project.
A note, that is a given but should never go without saying - is that the
CPE team work in the Fedora and CentOS communities, and rely on community
member feedback and discussion while working. Without your continued
support and engagement with our team - be it when we are announcing
something available and need input on how it works or an idea we have had
and we want more discussion on a proposal before we start developing - the
work we deliver at the end of each quarter would not be possible.
So on behalf of the CPE team, thank you for your involvement in our
quarterly work! This is as much your bragging rights as it is ours :)

## Fedora
### RPMautospec
This project was originally prototyped early last year and presented at
Nest with Fedora last August. It was a body of work that would relieve
packagers from the burden of manually updating the Release field and
%changelog section in RPM spec files.
Some of the highlights of this project that the team delivered was:
* Implemented a simplified release enumeration algorithm (from the
discussion on the devel list and with FESCo)
* Reflect flags to %autorelease in generated changelog entries
* `fedpkg local`, `fedpkg mockbuild` (possibly `fedpkg srpm`)
supports rpmautospec features, i.e. prepare the SRPM on the fly as
Koji would do it before building.
* Allows for uncommitted changes in local builds with fedpkg, i.e. bump the
release number by one and generate a boilerplate “- uncommitted changes”
RPM changelog entry.
* Up-to-date and more complete documentation :)

You can read more detailed information on this project from the repo
https://pagure.io/docs/fedora-infra/rpmautospec/ and from the fedora
mailing list

Thank you Thierry for your support.

So I will try to get the thread dump .. If the problem comes with a connection
timeout from a (not listening) client, shoudn´t I see an error log entry
somewhere? I searched for that for hours but no hints .. Maybe not the right
idea but the problem came after our last linux patch, so if others have similar
problems maybe a code change issue?

Note that this is a Sqlite decision, from RHEL engineering we only
requested the removal in digital signatures and where integrity
protection is required for security.
Also note that we do not require full removal, just that SHA-1 is not
used unless users intentionally change configuration.

[389-devel] Re: 300s delay when query cn=monitor

2021-07-12 Thread Pierre Rogier
HI Erwin,

Just seeing your mail, I got a wild idea:
If I remember correctly a cn=monitor query collects some disk
statistics and to do
 that it performs a stat on all mount points.
A problem with some nfs mounted file system could then explain the
delay.
It would be interesting to see if "df" command is responsive ...
  (could be interesting to check the df output in sos report if you
have it )

Regards,
Pierre

[389-devel] Re: 300s delay when query cn=monitor

2021-07-12 Thread Thierry Bordaz

Hi Erwin,

I think the pstack is first step to diagnose what is going on. I
suspected a timeout because of the long etime (250s) that is close to a
5min timeout (ioblock, ssl timeout,...) but ATM there is no strong
evidence of this. timeout are not systematically reported in error logs
as it is normal networking event.

best regards
thierry

Re: F35 Change: Remove SHA-1 from Sqlite (Self-Contained Change proposal)

2021-07-12 Thread Ondrej Dubaj
Hello,

According to the response from upstream [1], it seems I have come up with a
solution too quickly. I apologize for this. I will go through a
cancellation process of this Change Proposal, as there seems to be no valid
reason to remove SHA-1 support in sqlite.

Thanks for your help and understanding.

Regards,
Ondrej

Retiring python-cliapp and python-coverage-test-runner

2021-07-12 Thread Michel Alexandre Salim via devel
Hi all,

I'm retiring these two packages
- python-cliapp
- python-coverage-test-runner

Upstream has been dead for three years; they were part of Lars
Wirzenius' Obnam backup tool and were meant to be retired with the rest
of the stack, and have no other dependent packages.

Best regards,
