It might not be as bad as you think!

All rust-* packages had been excluded from tracking since the start,
so the progress I have been making hasn't been tracked, either. I'm
happy to say that as of now, all packages for Rust crates (~2300
packages) have been updated to use SPDX license expressions (except
those that have been FTBFS for a long time, which is about 2-3
packages). Over the past few months I've been regenerating packaging
for Rust crates with rust2rpm v24, which also included switching all
crates that had been generated with rust2rpm < v22 to SPDX (also
involved some license fixes / clarifications / problems with missing
license files that are now fixed / etc., often working with upstream
projects).

Per https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1979565#c12
there appears to still be a pending legal review issue and
you may need to scrub the sources of the BMFF parts before
uploading to dist-git.

I believe legal was pinged recently as to the status of the
BMFF question.

I have CC: the legal mailing list in case they have any
input.

Re: Rawhide build failures

2023-08-21 Thread Ian McInerney via devel
I think it is actually because of a change proposal, there was a recent
email about the webkit2gtk4.0 package changing:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/IFRPWZNEFEGXGQFRNTH4LTFFLTJ5DOCL/,
so it is actually a problem I think.

Here's the PR for updating Fedora 38 to 0.27.7 - looks like this one is
straightforward, no soname bump or any change needed apart from
modifying the source URL (exiv2 stops hosting release tarballs on their
site)

RFC: PR to update exiv2 in Rawhide

2023-08-21 Thread Michel Alexandre Salim
Dear all,

exiv2 has had a new release for a few months now - 0.28.0 - which causes
an soname bump.

I've put up a PR for the update -
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/exiv2/pull-request/3 - would
appreciate people taking a close look at this; I'll also prepare a COPR
with the dependent packages rebuilt

In the meantime, there's a 0.27.7 bugfix release, any objection to
getting that packaged for stable releases?

I like this plan overall. The only part I would adjust is the
guidelines having a MUST requirement to use one flag or the other.
Fewer required flags is better, which is why we would have a default
at all. I'm totally fine with a transition to making the default
behavior to fail if a license isn't found. The guidelines can say
that packages should use `%pyproject_save_files -L` if it is known
that it won't detect a license and it will be specified manually with
%license in %files, which will be a noop now but will prevent packages
from FTBFS when we make the switch.

Orphaned packages looking for new maintainers

2023-08-21 Thread Miro Hrončok

The following packages are orphaned and will be retired when they
are orphaned for six weeks, unless someone adopts them. If you know for sure
that the package should be retired, please do so now with a proper reason:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_remove_a_package_at_end_of_life

Note: If you received this mail directly you (co)maintain one of the affected
packages or a package that depends on one. Please adopt the affected package or
retire your depending package to avoid broken dependencies, otherwise your
package will fail to install and/or build when the affected package gets
retired.

Heads-up: abseil-cpp 20230802.0 coming to F40/Rawhide and F39/Branched

2023-08-21 Thread Ben Beasley
In one week, 2023-08-28, I plan to update abseil-cpp from 20230125.3 to
20230802.0 (Abseil LTS branch, Aug 2023)[1] in side tags for F40/Rawhide
and F39/Branched.

Like all new calendar versions of abseil-cpp, this breaks ABI
compatibility and bumps the SONAME version. There are no intentional
breaking API changes[2].

Testing in COPR[3] indicates all directly-dependent packages are
compatible. (A change was required in mozc and fcitx5-mozc, which were
using internal/non-API symbols[4]; the necessary change has already been
discussed with upstream and committed to dist-git.)

Besides abseil-cpp, I will rebuild the following dependent packages as
maintainer or co-maintainer:

bear, fastnetmon, grpc, libarrow (Rawhide only, using collaborator
privileges)

I should be able to build existing commits of the following packages
even though I do not have privileges on the dist-git projects:

    fcitx5-mozc, mozc

The following were tested in COPR but do not need to be rebuilt, because
they are header-only and do not link dynamically against abseil-cpp:

    parlaylib

I will ask the maintainers of the following to rebuild into the side
tags, asking a provenpackager to help if the maintainers are not able to
follow up within a few days:

bloaty, credentials-fetcher, frr, ilbc, libarrow (F39 only),
libphonenumber, plasma-dialer, qmlkonsole, syslog-ng

If you maintain a package on this final list, please expect another
direct email once the side tags are ready and I have built at least
abseil-cpp and grpc. If you want me to handle rebuilds like this in the
future, you can add me as a co-maintainer (FAS music) with commit
privileges, or at minimum collaborator privileges on the rawhide branch
since these updates will usually happen before branching.

Maintainers of all affected packages should have received this email
directly (by BCC rather than CC, to keep the message from being held for
moderation due to a long CC list).

Finally, those working on the eventual upgrade of protobuf from 3.x to
v4 (22.x/23.x/24.x) should be aware that it looks like we will need to
package a 24.x release for compatibility with this abseil-cpp
release[5][6]. This shouldn’t be a problem; we are nowhere close to
working out all the issues in dependent packages for protobuf v4, which
will certainly not happen in F39, and another rebase of the working
PR[7] will be a trivial effort compared to the other necessary work.

Orphaned packages looking for new maintainers

2023-08-21 Thread Miro Hrončok

The following packages are orphaned and will be retired when they

The main item I see missing is conditionalization of the sub-packages,
which is important for anyone wanting to rebuild the same spec on
RHEL/EPEL where most of mingw is not present.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/MinGW/#_disabling_mingw_packages

Re: Request to review a MinGW subpackges in libsodium

2023-08-21 Thread Sandro Mani

Hi

Please check out [1] for a sample unified native/mingw spec with
autotools build. Specific remarks:

- Add %{?mingw_debug_package}
- Explicit BR on mingw-binutils probably unnecessary
- Try %global _configure ../configure instead of cloning the entire
source tree

- Add %mingw_debug_install_post

I opened a PR adding mingw subpackages to libsodium according to my best

I talked with the maintainer and it could be accepted, but I would like

There's a TODO list item for that upstream already.

Definitely makes sense, and should be very easy to add, the underlying
concepts are all implemented, it's just a matter of exposing this
under new options.

apparently no longer functions with perl-Alien-wxWidgets-0.69-24.fc39

Hence I suppose we need to rebuild perl-Wx once more to fix this now and add
the requirement on perl(Alien::wxWidgets::Config::gtk_XXX) to prevent this in
the future as Scott says.

Looking for a new (possibly better) python-argcomplete maintainer

2023-08-21 Thread Miro Hrončok

Hello.

I am the main admin of python-argcomplete in Fedora. The package is severely
outdated but works.

I don't want to maintain it, but pytest uses it for tests, so I don't want to
be retired. Is there somebody else who would take better care of it than I do?

There's a TODO list item for that upstream already.

https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/main/TODO#L153

Definitely makes sense, and should be very easy to add, the underlying
concepts are all implemented, it's just a matter of exposing this
under new options.

Re: Heads up: merging SPDX related PRs

2023-08-21 Thread Miroslav Suchý

Dne 21. 08. 23 v 10:32 Florian Weimer napsal(a):

Over the time we had several workshops about SPDX. Some people did the SPDX
migrations for others (me included).

Some of the PR are not merged yet. E.g.

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/redhat-rpm-config/pull-request/251

The License: field is incomplete, it needs to pick up the autoconf
exception.

Fixed. Nice catch. Thank you.

In past I waited until it is merged. Now I plan to be more progressive
and I plan in these individual cases to:

1) create PR

2) wait 14 days

3) if there will be no response, the I will merge it as a proven packager.

I assume you plan to translate just the License: field and not look at
the actual license references in the source code for this. If that
approach is acceptable, package maintainers could do the same thing. It
would significantly speed up the conversion (e.g., no need to run
fossology).

No. I on these workshops we have done the full work. Not just plain translation of License field. But as you saw above -
nobody is perfect.

There is 'gtk_3_2_1_uni_gcc_3_4' still in
/usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/Wx/build/Opt.pm in this package
