2023-11-07 Thread Cristian Delgado
Hi Benson,
I've made the pull request, thanks for your feedback.

Also i've also raised an issue at package sponsors, hoping someone could
sponsor me, I'll try to contact them through matrix and IRC

Thanks again

Yes .. '~' is being replaced by

U+02DC SMALL TILDE character

and the replacement looks terrible. If you have
nbdkit-protect-filter(1) installed you can see this important
meta-character becomes almost invisible, rendering the documentation
and examples very confusing.

I read the LWN discussion.

Did we try to persuade upstream to revert the problem? But if they're
not receptive then a downstream fix aligned with Debian looks right.

I wrote a longer comment in the upstream ticket.
But here in Fedora, I think we should rename prrte's binary to
something different (prrte-pterm most likely). It's newer and less
popular than the other contender for the name.

Having to use a different name is annoying, but predictable.
A script that wants to be portable wrt. to the new and old names
can do something like this:
  pterm=(command -v prrte-pterm || echo pterm)
  $pterm arg1 arg2

Is it possible (or a good idea) to add additional files to the -debuginfo packages?

2023-11-07 Thread Omair Majid
Hi,

I am trying to enable debug information for a programming language that
produces debuginfo in a custom (non-DWARF) format. I was thinking that
adding that programming-language-specific debuginfo to existing
-debuginfo packages seems like a good idea.

(Is that a bad idea?)

Any suggestions on how I can add additional files to the auto-generated
-debuginfo packages (which already contain some useful DWARF debuginfo).

Thanks,
Omair

Fedora CoreOS rebasing to Fedora Linux 39

2023-11-07 Thread Dusty Mabe
Fedora Linux 39 was released today [1]. The Fedora CoreOS `testing` stream has
been
rebased and is currently rolling out. In two weeks, it will be promoted to the
`stable` stream.

For more information about Fedora 39, see the Fedora Project's list of official
Changes [2] and the Fedora CoreOS analysis of each Change [3].

As mentioned in a previous announcement, there are a few changes related to
modularity, AWS AMIs, and `moby-engine` that require special attention. For
more information, see [4].

Thank you to everyone helping find issues by running the `next` and `testing`
streams!

Dusty Mabe, for the Fedora CoreOS team

Per package stuff was /usr/share/appdata -> /usr/share/metainfo.

Our packaged AppStream repodata needs to move from /usr/share/app-info
to /usr/share/swcatalog. This change is a unique issue for us because
nobody else does packaged AppStream repodata.

I think this is the third time they change path. BTW, 'app-info' was the
previous one, 0.16 used 'metainfo' [1], now 'swcatalog'... let's hope
they're happy with this last name.

Once it's done building and it shows up in the side-tag, you can try
again with gnome-software.

Hi,
I'm sorry, I do not follow. Do you mean "1.0.0" is higher than
"1.0.0~git20231102.d88ed03-1.fc40", but lower than "1.0.0-2.fc40"?
That sounds odd to me.

Both flatpak and gnome-software have

   Requires: appstream%{?_isa} >= %{appstream_version}

adding the tilde only here and not into:

   BuildRequires: pkgconfig(appstream) >= %{appstream_version}

will lead to a problem in the future (at least for me, I'll forget
about it very soon).

What about removing that `Requires`? There is added un-versioned
dependency on libappstream.so.5()(64bit) anyway, which may work, as
long as the .soname versions are properly bumped on API/ABI changes,
right? I understand these `Requires` as "to be on a safe side" only.

This release replaces plain string exceptions with a class exception. Upstream

Bodhi update submitted from rawhide side-tag. Let's see how happy gs is
with this jbig2dec update.

If all goes well, the contained fixes would justify updating on f39 also
(and maybe f39 - gs updated all the way down), unless maintainers
of zathura-pdf-mupdf and python-PyMuPDF object.

The most important measure would be to abolish automatic pushes. This update
was automatically pushed after 7 days with no feedback whatsoever. Promoting
an update to stable should require a human to explicitly click a "push to
stable" button, thereby acknowledging the lack of feedback.

I also do not understand why the gating stuff that was recently added does

tests won't complete, like being in deadlock or in an endless loop.

Automatic check for bodhi updates not to break RPM dependencies

2023-11-07 Thread Miro Hrončok

On 07. 11. 23 12:17, Sandro Mani wrote:

Hi

Due to an unfortunate oversight of an incorrect branch merge a couple of months
ago, a recently backported security fix caused an unwanted gdal soname bump in
F37, due to an update from the 3.5.x series to the 3.6.x series.

I'm preparing a gdal-3.6.2-8.really3.5.3.fc37 to address this, please don't
rebuild any dependencies in the meantime, as the new package will bring back
the previous soname.

Apologies for the troubles.

Hello,

this is not the first time I saw a bodhi update that breaks dozens of
dependencies, goes unnoticed for a week and is automatically pushed stable,
only to discover many packages fail to install.

How come we don't have an automatic check for this? What can be done?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was taking about s390x, and only
remembered it is one of those once where I do no easy access to. Thus it is
hard for me to resolve it [0].

I assume the MUSIC maintainer are in a similar position that they did not
manage to resolve the FTBFS, but I think obsoleting FTBFS packages is not the
way to go. There is an issue for MUSIC to switch to the C API [1], thus I would
assume they would be happy to get some help, I know I would be happy if someone
could figure out why bout++ has issues with openmpi 5 on s390x.

I am aware that until I can rebuild bout++, and until MUSIC can be rebuild, the
packages are FTI, blocking upgrade of openmpi. I am stuck on the old openmpi as
well.

Best,
David

HEADS UP: broken dependencies due to gdal-3.6.2-7.fc37

2023-11-07 Thread Sandro Mani

Hi

Due to an unfortunate oversight of an incorrect branch merge a couple of
months ago, a recently backported security fix caused an unwanted gdal
soname bump in F37, due to an update from the 3.5.x series to the 3.6.x
series.

I'm preparing a gdal-3.6.2-8.really3.5.3.fc37 to address this, please
don't rebuild any dependencies in the meantime, as the new package will
bring back the previous soname.

Apologies for the troubles.

Hi Milan,

I went ahead and dropped the conflicting typelib file from the
appstream0.16 compat package in
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/appstream0.16/c/1f216a9f459dcfa5dec851b252c593629bf0cd7c?branch=rawhide

Can you do 'koji wait-repo f40-build-side-76936 --build
appstream0.16-0.16.3-2.fc40' and try building gnome-software again once it
says that the package is available in the repo?

if you mean strange as ppc64le, then it's in the output just because I
was updating a rawhide/ppc64le system, but the problem exists on all
arches. The libmpi_cxx.so.40 doesn't exist at all in openmpi 5.0, so
people on x86_64 or aarch64 are affected as well.

Hi Neal,

I've backported the appstream 1.0 patches to libadwaita and built it in the
side tag.

2023-11-07 Thread David Schwörer
MUSIC is an independent package, that just happens to fail to build from source
after a new openmpi has been landed. bout++ is affected as well, and I would be
unhappy if it would be obsoleted by openmpi.

I think having more time to adapt dependent packages would have been helpful,
as I do not have the time right now to fix the issue on some strange
architecture, and I would assume MUSIC developer and maintainer also need more
time to port to a different API.

I think obsoleting FTBFS packages after a soname bump is not something we
generally do.

this is causing broken deps in rawhide

Problem 1: cannot install both openmpi-5.0.0-2.fc40.ppc64le from rawhide and
openmpi-4.1.5-7.fc40.ppc64le from @System
  - package MUSIC-openmpi-1.1.16-13.20201002git8c6b77a.fc39.ppc64le from
@System requires libmpi_cxx.so.40()(64bit)(openmpi-ppc64le), but none of the
providers can be installed
  - cannot install the best update candidate for package
openmpi-4.1.5-7.fc40.ppc64le
  - cannot install the best update candidate for package
MUSIC-openmpi-1.1.16-13.20201002git8c6b77a.fc39.ppc64le

Couldn't openmpi Obsolete the MUSIC-openmpi subpackage?

I am working on the Flatpak backport.

Hi,
I'm sorry for a late response, I forgot of this. I tried to build
gnome-software in your side tag, but it fails due to the appstream
packages cannot be installed together:

Error: Transaction test error:
DEBUG util.py:446:file /usr/lib64/girepository-1.0/AppStream-
1.0.typelib conflicts between attempted installs of appstream0.16-
0.16.3-1.fc40.x86_64 and appstream-1.0.0~git20231102.d88ed03-
1.fc40.x86_64

Thus I guess the dependencies need to be built in certain order, to not
pull in old and new appstream packages or there's some problem with
packaging of the two.
Bye,
Milan
