Contribute to Podman 5 Test Week 2024-03-21 through 2024-03-27

2024-03-21 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

Fedora 40 is going to ship with Podman 5[0] and as part of this changeset,
there will be a lot of breaking changes which can affect your
container workflow.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Podman team and the Quality team of
Fedora have
decided to host a test week[1].

The idea is for users to test Podman 5 on a Fedora 40 Pre-release machine
and submit results in the Test Day App[2]. If you have spare cycles or use
Podman as a daily driver, it will be
great to have some folks try out and report bugs right away.

Hey Ming,

You can find the rust packaging guideline here
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/Rust/
Rust Packages are maintained by Rust SIG (you should join this SIG)
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Rust
If you are not a packager already, you will need some blessing from someone
who is experienced, for rust,
you may try to reach out to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Jistone
(He does a lot with rust packaging and SIG)

I hope this helps!

Join the Rawhide Test Days: Help Shape the Future of Fedora Linux!

2024-03-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Dear Fedorans,

Are you ready to make a difference in the world of Fedora Linux? We're
thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new test day series:
Rawhide Test Days! These events are your opportunity to play a crucial
role in ensuring the quality and reliability of upcoming Fedora
releases. Rawhide test days will play their unique role in keeping
Fedora Linux releases on time.

Fedora test days are renowned for their inclusivity – they welcome
participation from both seasoned Fedora contributors and newcomers
alike. If you've been itching to dip your toes into the world of
Fedora Linux contribution, this is your perfect starting point.

For some time now, we've been dedicated to elevating the quality
standards of Fedora by implementing rigorous testing processes well in
advance. Our Fedora Changes process facilitates the submission of
changesets long before the official release cycle begins. As part of
this effort, we're excited to introduce Rawhide Test Days, an
initiative designed to test these changesets thoroughly and identify
any potential (blocker) bugs early on.

To kick off this exciting journey, we're focusing our efforts on
testing DNF 5 – a crucial changeset proposed for Fedora Linux 41[0].
With the introduction of the brand new DNF5 package in Rawhide, we're
organizing a test days to gather initial feedback before it becomes
the default. We'll be rigorously testing DNF5 against its basic
acceptance criteria to ensure a seamless transition.

Mark your calendars for our Rawhide Test Days, taking place from
Friday, March 15th, through Tuesday, March 19th. Your participation
during this week will be invaluable as we work together to refine
Fedora Linux for its upcoming release.

Ready to dive in? Visit our test week page [1] to learn more about how
you can contribute and make your mark on the future of Fedora.

Happy testing, and we can't wait to see you there!

Best regards,

[Testdays] Call for Fedora Linux 40 testing events

2023-11-08 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 40.

For anyone who isn't aware, a Test Day is an event usually focused
around IRC for interaction and a Wiki page for instructions and results,
with the aim being to get a bunch of interested users and developers
together to test a specific feature or area of the distribution. You can
run a Test Day on just about anything for which it would be useful to do
some fairly focused testing in 'real time' with a group of testers; it
doesn't have to be code, for instance, we often run Test Days for
l10n/i18n topics. For more information on Test Days, see
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days .

Anyone who wants to can host their own Test Day, or you can request that
the QA group helps you out with organization or any combination of the
two. To propose a Test Day, just file a ticket in fedora-qa pagure - here's
an example https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issue/624 . For
instructions on hosting a Test Day, see
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/SOP_Test_Day_management .

You can see the schedule at https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issues?tags=test+days .
There are many slots open right now. Consider the development
schedule, though, in deciding when you want to run your Test Day - for
some topics you may want to avoid
the time before the Beta release or the time after the feature freeze
or the Final Freeze.

We normally aim to schedule Test Days on Thursdays; however, if you want
to run a series of related Test Days, it's often a good idea to do
something like Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday of the same week (this is
how we usually run the X Test Week, for instance). If all the Thursday
slots fill up but more people want to run Test Days, we will open up
Tuesday slots as overflows. And finally, if you really want to run a
Test Day in a specific time frame due to the development schedule, but
the Thursday slot for that week is full, we can add a slot on another
day. We're flexible! Just put in your ticket the date or time frame you'd
like, and we'll figure it out from there.

If you don't want to run your own Test Day, but you are willing to
help with another, feel free to join one or more of already accepted
Test Days:

GNOME Test Day*
i18n Test Day*
Kernel Test Week(s)*
Upgrade Test Day*
IoT Test Week*
Cloud Test Day*
Fedora CoreOS Test Week*

And don't be afraid, there are a lot of more slots available for your
own Test Day!

[*] These are the test days we run generally to make sure everything
is working fine, the dates get announced as we move into the release
cycle.

If you have any questions about the Test Day process, please don't
hesitate to contact me or any member of the Fedora QA team on test at
lists.fedoraproject.org or in #fedora-qa on IRC. Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Fedora 39 Upgrade Test Day is underway!

2023-10-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 39 release dates, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 39 has a lot of changesets and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[0], we will test upgrading from a full
updated, F37 and F38 to the F39 for all architectures(x86_64,ARM,aarch
64) and variants(WS,cloud,server,silverblue,IoT).

We understand that upgrade takes time and testing if things work as
expected, takes more.
We will be accepting results throughout the weekend!

The results can be submitted here[1]

As usual, we hang out on the #fedora-test-day, should you have questions.

[Test-Announce] [Test Week] F39 Anaconda WebUI Installer for Workstation is underway!

2023-08-28 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey folks,

This week we will be testing the new Anaconda WebUI installer written with
React and Cockpit. This installer will be default for Workstation for now and
we would like to run through as many tests as possible from [0].
Note from developers/other likely scenarios are
a) Test the new mount point assignment UI and for this the most likely
use case will be that the user will create the partitioning manually
using blivet-gui (which can now be started from the WebUI interface)
and then switch to the mount point assignment and assign/map the
created devices to mount points
b) Test any system with multiple types of disks a combination (LVM and
RAID), and different bootloader configs.

I will be running for F39 and you will get a mention when I pull up
all the test day data.
Thanks for testing!

[Testdays] Call for Fedora Linux 39 testing events

2023-05-01 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 39.

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] Fedora 38 DNF 5 2023-03-14

2023-03-13 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks,

Since the brand new dnf5 package[0] has landed in F38, the Fedora QA
and DNF teams are organizing a test day to get some initial feedback
on it. We will be testing DNF 5 to iron out any rough edges.
We will be testing microdnf's all basic functionality from a user
perspective and will also be trying out regular DNF options and
commands that might be used as part of day to day operations and
scripts!

Should you have any questions, the wiki[1] has all the necessary

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] GNOME 44 Desktop and Core Apps 2023-03-06 through 2023-03-08

2023-03-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey folks!

This week we will be testing GNOME 44. To make it easier for testers
to test and the Workstation team to make the results submitted useful,
we have split the GNOME test week into two parts, the first leg will
be covering the desktop and the core apps. The latter will focus on
apps that will need a lot more testing.

Today, we kick off the first leg [0] and the workstation team will be
monitoring their libera chat room for questions. The "how to test" [1]
section will help testers understand what to test for (if they are
completely new to this)

[Fedora 38] Call for Test Days

2022-12-30 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 38.

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Fedora 37 CoreOS Test Week is happening NOW!

2022-09-29 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks,

F37 CoreOS Test week starts today and will run for a week!
As most of you might know, CoreOS will come forth in this cycle as an "Edition".
This opens us with more requirements for testing and ironing out bugs
well ahead of time.
This test week aims to serve community members an opportunity to get
together and explore
everything from the FCOS itself to the documentation!

The wiki[0] has the details, all that's required to be known. The test
day app[1] is where the testers can submit the test results.

StrongCryptoSettings3 Setting Test Day

2022-09-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

We have a bunch of test days coming up, we are currently running
StrongCryptoSettings3 test day. I will be keeping this open for
community members to come and test. It's fairly simple, just run the
commands you find in[0] and your output should correspond to [1]

This is an *unconventional* test day which means, two things
1. You must try out any exotic VPN, git work flow, chat apps and see
if they work
2. Anything which will use OpenSSL will be affected and any corner
case should be possibly tested!

The first set of quick command execution will be easy. The test day
matrix will be open for the time being and it will be great to have
this tested!

[Test-Announce] [Call for Action] Fedora 37 Pre-Beta Validation Event kicks off 2022-08-31 through 2022-08-07

2022-08-29 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

Some of you may know from my presentation at Nest '22 about the
Validation events that are getting added!
Historically, Fedora QA has relied on a lot of contributor feedback.
Mostly, we have set up multiple
ways how to capture the results and there has been no better time than
to start capturing feedback about the composes as
a part of the Release Validation Event!

As the name suggests, we will be validating composes throughout a week
and we will do it twice per cycle, once for pre-beta and other for
pre-final. Validation Events such as this are done to invite more
community folks to test the latest compose(s) for each day and help
fill the
Release Validation Matrix leading up to the Final Go/No-Go meeting.

We will start this Validation Event with the compose for 2022-08-31[0]
and the respective "current" validation page can be found [1].
As the days change, so will the latest composes and thus will be the
current validation pages. Feel free to jump in anytime, and
submit validation results on the "current" validation page.

You can use "relval" [2] to submit reports for composes as well apart
from the regular editing wiki pages. I will be posting about the
new images and the QA candidates on this list every day and will be up
for taking any question there is!

[Test-Announce] [Call For Action] Fedora QA Onboading call Poll

2022-06-06 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

First of all, I would like to thank all those who have shown interest
in testing Fedora and making it better.
We saw a lot of new faces in the test day(s) and introduction emails
to welcome you all,
here's is what we have for you.

We are going to have an onboarding call,
We will focus on helping the new contributors to start contributing right away.
The meeting will be a video call, with an 'Hackmd'[2] for text notes and agenda.

The agenda is will be shared in Etherpad and is designed to ensure
that newcomers
can follow along and make the most of the call without any pre-requisites.
But for that to happen, we need to fix a time and here's a poll link[1]
where we would like all the interested folks to vote in until 2022-06-10.

[Fedora 37] Call for Test Days

2022-05-23 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 37.

Thanks!

1. Kernel 5.17 Test Week [0]
2. Fedora 36 CoreOS [1]
3. Fedora Cloud Test Day [2]

These are events that are easy to start off if you are new to Fedora
and some of them
even reward you with a Fedora Badge as token of gratitude and reward
for your time and energy
that you spent contributing!

The wikis below will guide you through the instructions and how to
participate. In case of an
unlikely event of things not working as intended. File a bug and if
you have any questions,
reach out to @test list directly.

In the coming week, we have two of the most community impacting topics
that we will test for
the Audio and Upgrade path to Fedora 36 from Fedora 35 and Fedora 34.
More details can you found
in this Fedora Magazine Article[3]

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] Kernel 5.16 closing notes

2022-02-03 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

This has been the best Kernel Test Week[0] ever!
Here's the TLDR

Total tests run: 510
Total testers: 143
Non x86 tests: 40
Non x86 testers: 8

Scaling up and retaining contributors has always been a goal for the
Fedora QA community.
This success is credited to the strong community and we are thankful
to every one of you, who come together to make this a bigger success
than the last one!
As part of '22 goals, we would like to establish not only more
contribution opportunities but also
bring more recognition opportunities to our contributors.
Stay Tuned!

PS: Special thanks to Justin Forbes for compiling new changes and
building iso and the Fedora Magazine team has always been nothing less
than supportive!

You guys are *awesome* :)

[Fedora 36] Call for Test Days

2021-11-09 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 36.

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Fedora 35 Upgrade Test Day 2021-10-07

2021-10-04 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 35 release dates, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 35 has a lot of changesets [0] and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[1], we will test upgrading from a full
updated, F33 and F34 to the F35 for all architectures(x86_64,ARM,aarch64) and
variants(WS,cloud,server,silverblue,IoT and newly added Kinoite).

The results can be submitted here[2]

As usual, we hang out on the #fedora-test-day, should you have questions.

Requesting for package review and sponsor

2021-06-28 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

I am Sumantro and been working in Fedora's QA team for some time now.
I have decided to try out packaging and maintain a few packages as
well. I have taken a few steps of making a PR[0] and submitting one
package for review[1]. It will be awesome if someone can review and
also help me with a sponsor!

I am thankful to Frantisek(with PR), Ankur, and Vipul for helping me out!

[Fedora 35] Call for Test Days

2021-04-28 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers, and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 35.

You can see the schedule at
https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/issues?tags=test+days .

Thanks!

[Test-Announce] Grub and Shim Test Day, 2021-04-12

2021-04-12 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi,

Grub and Shim Test Day starts today
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2021-04-12_Grub_and_Shim_Test_Day

Special call out: No installation required! If you have (U)EFI x86_64
hardware, with or without Secure Boot, please create install media
using one of the provided special test ISOs, and boot your system.
Please test all makes/models you happen to have available. We're not
anticipating shim bugs, but firmware peculiarities that shim might
have to work around.

If you have Fedora 33/34 installed, with updates-testing repo enabled,
you likely already have shim-15.4-3. In which case ... it works!
Please report your test results here ->
https://testdays.fedoraproject.org/events/111

BIOS firmware and additional architectures are covered in the test
day, see the page for details.

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] Fedora 34 Audio Test Day 2021-04-09

2021-04-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

There is a recent proposal to replace the PulseAudio daemon with a
functionally compatible implementation based on PipeWire[0].
This means that all existing clients using the PulseAudio client
library will continue to work as before, as well as applications
shipped as Flatpak.
The test day [1] is to test everything works as expected.
We are looking for specifically testing and reporting [2] the video
conferencing platforms and wireless headphones

[Test-Announce] Fedora 34 Upgrade Test Day 2021-04-07

2021-04-05 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 34 release dates, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 34 has a lot of changesets [0] and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[1], we will test upgrading from a full

[Test-Announce] [Test Week] Systemd-oomd by default starts 2021-03-18 *TODAY*

2021-03-17 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

Fedora users in out-of-memory (OOM) situations get benefitted by
enabling systemd-oomd[0] by default. Actions taken by systemd-oomd
operate on a per-cgroup level, aligning well with the life cycle of
systemd units. As this becomes a default feature, we are running a
test week to verify the intended functionality of the feature.

Systemd-oomd will be enabled by default in all variants of Fedora 34
and it's important for us to test against as many as possible. The
test week[1] begins on the 18th of March and will run till 25th March.

If you have any questions and some spare time, please do test the
feature and drop by #fedora-test-day@freenode

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] Fedora 34 Audio 2021-03-03

2021-03-02 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

PulseAudio deamon has been a default in Fedora for a really long time.
As a part of the Fedora 34 changeset, PipeWire has been set to
default[0] which will route all audio from PulseAudio and JACK to the
PipeWire Audio daemon by default. This is a very crucial change and
will require significant amount of testing. During pandemic, almost
all for us connect via different video meeting platforms which makes
this test day more and more important.

As a part of this test day[1], we will have designed a variety of
Audio Test scenarios keeping in mind our general users. The test cases
can be found here[3] and the users can respond with their testing
results in the appropriate column.

[GSoC 2021] Calling for Mentors and Projects

2021-02-16 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Folks!

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a global program focused on
introducing students to open source software development. Students
work on a 10-week programming project with an open-source organization
during their break from a post-secondary academic program. Fedora has
had great participation[0] and we would like to continue to be a
mentoring org this year too.

We are currently looking for mentors and projects!

If you are one who is interested, there are more details in [1] about
how to apply as a mentor and how to pitch project ideas.

If you have questions, please reach out to me or Vipul Siddharth on
emails or IRC.

[Test-Announce] [Fedora 34] Call for Test Days

2020-10-29 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hi Fedora users, developers and friends!

It's time to start thinking about Test Days for Fedora 34.

Test Days:

GNOME Test Day
i18n Test Day*
Kernel Test Week*
Upgrade Test Day*
IoT Test Week*

And don't be afraid, there are a lot of more slots available for your
own Test Day!
[*] These are the test days we run generally to make sure everything
is working fine, the dates get announced as we move into the release
cycle.

If you have any questions about the Test Day process, please don't
hesitate to contact me or any member of the Fedora QA team on test at
lists.fedoraproject.org or in #fedora-qa on IRC. Thanks!

Best Regards,
Sumantrom

[Test-Announce] Fedora 33 Cloud Test Day 2020-10-05

2020-10-02 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

Fedora 33 Cloud Test Day happening on Monday, October 5th, 2020!

A test day is an event where anyone can help make sure that changes in
Fedora are working well in the upcoming release. Fedora community
members often participate, but the public is welcome also. You only
need to be able to download materials (including some large files),
and read and follow technical directions step by step, to contribute.

The wiki page[0] for the Cloud test day has a lot of good information
on what and how to test. After you’ve done some testing, you can log
your results in the test day app[1].

[Test-Announce] Fedora 33 Upgrade Test Day 2020-09-21

2020-09-19 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

As we come closer to Fedora 33 Beta, it's time to test upgrades.
Fedora 33 has a lot of changesets [0] and it becomes essential that we
test the graphical upgrade
methods as well as the command line.
As a part of this test day[1], we will test upgrading from a full
updated, F31 and F32 to the F33 for
all architectures(x86_64,ARM,aarch64) and
variants(WS,cloud,server,silverblue,IoT).
The results can be submitted here[2]

As usual, we hang out on the #fedora-test-day, should you have questions.

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] Fedora Media Writer 2020-09-18

2020-09-14 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Testers,

Friday, 2020-09-18 will be Fedora Media Writer Test Day[0]!

This Test Day will focus on Fedora Media Writer. Fedora Media Writer
is used for creating bootable flash drives on different operating
systems and architectures.
The tool is intended to be provided as the primary download option
since Fedora 25, with the aim of lowering the barrier for potential
users to try and install Fedora.
In this test day, we aim to test Fedora 33 pre-release boot-media
creation on Windows, OS X, and Fedora 31,32 and 33 specifically
targeting the creation of ARM-bootable media to see whether it's
working well enough and catch any remaining issues.

It's also pretty easy to join in: all you'll need is 4GB flash
drive/SD card (With all it's *data backed up*).
As always, the event will be in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC.

[Test-Announce] [Test Day] F33 SwapOnZRAM 2020-07-06

2020-06-30 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey Testers,

Monday, 2020-07-06 will be SwapOnZRAM Test Day[0]!

This Test Day will focus on SwapOnZRAM[1]. Swap partition is useful,
except when it's slow. Zram is a RAM drive that uses compression.
Create a swap-on-zram during start-up. And no longer use swap
partitions by default.
The zram module creates RAM based block devices named /dev/zram
( = 0, 1, ...). Pages written to these disks are compressed and stored
in memory itself. These disks allow very fast I/O and compression provides
good amounts of memory savings.

It's also pretty easy to join in and contribute, you can submit your
test day results here[2]
As always, the event will be in #fedora-test-day on Freenode IRC.

[Test-Announce] [F32] Fedora CoreOS Test Day 2020-06-08

2020-06-03 Thread Sumantro Mukherjee
Hey All,

The CoreOS team is working towards the final F32 Fedora CoreOS. As a
result, the Fedora CoreOS and QA teams have organized a Test Day[0]
for Monday, June 08, 2020.
Since this is the very first FCOS Test Day, we are looking for people
to try out the ''next'' stream which contains all the new things which
move into ''testing'' and then ''stable''.
Participants will not only run the regular test cases[1] but also can
validate the FCOS Documentation on docs.fp.o[2] , file bugs and share
feedback/results[3].
The developers team members and QA team as usual will hang around
#fedora-coreos[4] and will
help folks!
