Re: Package owner required for ImageMagick
Hi, I remember a few years ago an imageMagick upgrade , we made one compat-ImageMagick693 [1] and after a few days the packages was not needed anymore . I propose do the same , do one compat-ImageMagick6.9.12 and after upgrade ImageMagick to 7 ... As someone who endorsed this suggestion before, I should probably make sure this contrary view is seen: https://stackoverflow.com/a/56220630/479426 In short, in the 20 years since the fork, ImageMagick has grown a lot of fancy new features, and may in fact be better behaved in some security-related cases. However, I am still in favor of replacing ImageMagick with GraphicsMagick, because: 1. If your use case is advanced image processing for, for example, computer vision, there are _so many other better library-based approaches_, and 2. If security is your concern, _oh god please don't do that it's too late already_. -- Matthew Miller Fedora Project Leader ___ devel mailing list -- devel@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe send an email to devel-le...@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@lists.fedoraproject.org Do not reply to spam on the list, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure

Sounds as if we need to keep ImageMagick 6.x for legacy reasons as long as it's safe to do so, but instead of switching to 7.x at some point, switching to GraphicsMagick is at most as much work if not less, but more future-proof? Yes, and the maintainer prior to me had tried to push a 7.x update and then promptly abandoned the package after a mess was made. ImageMagick 7.x has a different API and requires porting apps.
