Great. Then I guess I don't have to consider a "review swap" anymore as
mentioned at
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Package_Review_Process/#_contributor

No rush though. I might get this aw-server-rust concurrently on my COPR
and then wait for its dependencies to be accepted one-by-one in a
leisurely fashion.

No problem and thanks. The process was a little bit bumpy (fedpkg not
detecting me correctly) at the last straight but somehow it went
forward.

No, it's waiting for *you* to actually import the package. :)
Just getting the package review ticket approved does nothing on its own.

If that's of any use, I already maintain nvidia-340xx-kmod at RPMFusion

Self Introduction: Pratham Patel

2024-04-20 Thread Pratham Patel
Hello everyone,

I'm Pratham! I have a few SBCs (graciously provided by the RESF to me)
that I have been using and are now "mainline-ready". As the Fedora
project lies upstream to Rocky, it would be amazing to contribute to
the Fedora project to add support for these SBCs. That way, not only
Rocky but other projects like Alma and even some adventurous RHEL
users (after manually compiling, of course) can benefit from this.

Hey everyone,

I met a few people already on Events, during the Job or by contributing
to Pagure, Uyuni and some other projects. But I didn't properly
introduced myself on the Fedora devel list, so here we go.

My nickname for most accounts, including FAS, is wombelix, you can also
call me Dom. I live in Germany and work as Sr. Partner Solutions
Architect at AWS. I would describe myself as Open Source Enthusiast and
Contributor, Dog Person and Passionate Engineer. I'm in IT my whole life
and on/off contributor to different open source projects since a couple
of years. Doing hands-on tech and devel stuff is what I enjoy most. Give
me problems to solve so I can go down the rabbit hole of troubleshooting
and debugging. Let me put some code and a fix together. That's how to
make my happy.

I had it on my bucket list for quite a while to do some packaging and
learn some of the Spec magic. I finally got started and work on my first
Fedora package.
I'm looking for a Reviewer and Sponsor:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2274150

My intention is to work on a couple more AWS related packages and to see
if there are some orphaned packages that are interesting.

Self Introduction: Leo Sandoval

2024-02-01 Thread Leo Sandoval
Dear Fedora Community!

My name is Leonardo Sandoval, a software developer living in Guadalajara,
Mexico. I have been in the industry since 2006, most of the time close to
the Linux kernel (openmax, gstreamer, glibc, yocto project, ltib,
toolchains) and recently doing gitlab CI/CD, but all the time under
GNU/Linux (and emacs). Also, I recently started teaching Fundamentals of OS
in a local university, trying to get new students involved into the Linux
internals.

Since Dic 2023 I have been working at RedHat (remote), in particular
I joined the bootloader team to co-maintain Fedora grub2 and other
bootloader tasks. I have the fortune to be surrounded by amazing technical
people so I am glad to be part of this team and Fedora community in
general.

Hi Neftalí,

welcome!

I tried to follow the links, but they either return 404 or lead to a
page index where the subfolders return 403 (permission denied).
Also, it's not great to use a link obfuscator/tracker. Please just
show the real links to the destination pages. It's also easier to
spot typos in such links ;)

Maintaining packages is a little more involved than just being able to
build them, but I'm sure you'll get there. See:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Package_maintainer_responsibilities/

Since you posted this introduction, I assume you've reached
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/#introduce_yourself

If you want to maintain sagemath, which has been retired, you need to
prepare an unretirement review:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Package_Retirement_Process/#claiming

And you need to get sponsored:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/#_understand_the_sponsorship_model

We have quite a few people interested in scientific software at Fedora:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:SciTech_SIG and man other SIGs
at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Fedora_special-interest_groups

Feel free to reach out for help.

Nice! I also started with Slackware around that time.

>At house and for my classes I use Fedora 28.

I really hope that was a typo and you meant 38.

Self Introduction: Rafel Amer

2023-12-10 Thread Rafel Amer Ramon

Hi,

my name is Rafel Amer and I'm professor at the Technical University
of Catalonia https:/www.upc.edu.
I teach Maths
and I use sagemath for my classes. After the sagemath package is
orphandend, I would like to be a maintainer or
co-maintainer this package.

I have successfully build sagemath 10.1 packages for Fedora 38 in
x86_64 and aarch64 architectures, so
  I think that
  I could maintain this package.

I started using Linux in  1995 with Slackware and I have
administered server with Debian and CentOS. At house and
for my classes I use Fedora 28.

Self Introduction: Jamie Chapman

2023-11-09 Thread James Chapman
Hi Everyone,

My name is Jamie Chapman and this is my self introduction to the Fedora
devel community.

I have been working with Red Hat for the past three years, as part of the
389 Directory Server team, developing with C and Python. To share the load
and provide some backup within my team, I wish to become a co-maintainer of
the 389 Project.

I have been hanging out with Fedora/Red Hat for many moons now, from my
applied computing studies in university to some personal projects I have
been working on over the years. My first development job was with a
hardware manufacturer, developing kernel and user space software to expose
hardware capabilities to upper layers. The software I worked with here was
proprietary, so I didn't get that much exposure to the Open Source
community till I moved to Red Hat. Now, I really understand the power of
open source and am excited about my involvement within it.

In my "spare time" I like to play around with embedded devices, my latest
project was an ocean going tidal current monitor, the data being used to
improve the accuracy of casualty search prediction techniques. Maybe I
should share the software I developed for this project with the world...

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to playing a
part in the Open Source revolution.

Self Introduction: BurningPho3nix/Eddi-Jay Ohlms

2023-10-29 Thread BurningPho3nix

Greetings,

I am Eddi-Jay Ohlms alias BurningPho3nix.

I saw the article about how to join the package maintainers, because I
have interest in that.

I am a young developer from Germany and started my work with
POSIX-scripting and then moved on to C.

I am on Fedora (mostly KDE) for a year now,

and my interest in programming started around the time I started using
Fedora.

setup-tool (my project) is the only project that I am involved in right now,

because I don't have too much time right now due to work taking up a lot
of time.

Here is the link to my review request:

Best regards,

Eddi-Jay Ohlms/BurningPho3nix

PS: I sent this message from my personal email, because the fedora email
didn't work for whatever reason.

What issue are you referring to?
I have been working on PRs without being a maintainer, I just can't upload
the sources but
everytime I needed someone else did it for me.

To delete your fork, go to the Settings tab and click on delete project.

Hi @all,

a quick hello from my side as I would like to join the Fedora Package
Maintainers by taking over responsibility for the vhostmd package.

I've created a fork and added my change:

But it seems I can't create a PR from there. Anyhow - I would like to
take over maintainer ship from Richard Jones regarding this package.

How is that possible?

Another question, is it possible to fast-forward personal forks?
Or delete/recreate forks?

Welcome!

I hope we can bring stgit back (narrator: it was rewritten in Rust and
the version that was in Fedora prior to retirement was an old one
pre-Rust-rewrite).
Let me know once you have any package review requests. I can do some

Hey all, I'm Daniel Milnes.

By day I'm a CyberSecurity Engineer at LMAX Group, part of the team responsible
for running ~2k Rocky Linux servers, and by night I'm head of Infrastructure
for RACTF, an open-source framework for hosting Cyber Security Capture-The-Flag
events. This means I've got a professional and personal interest in the health
of the Fedora ecosystem, directly on my personal workstations, and indirectly
on servers running distros which are downstream from Fedora.

I'm responsible for maintaining several RPMs as part of my job, and am hoping
to be able to transfer that experience over to Fedora. I've submitted an RPM
for an open source tool I developed (bugzilla#2210561), and plan to use the
experience from there to help maintain other packages.

Also in case it's ever needed, my GPG key is on https://beano.dev/gpg (follow

Hi Stepan,

I will submit a ticket to request you being added to the packagers group so
you can co-maintain. What is your fedora account id? It wasn't obvious with
a quick search.

Self Introduction: Zephyr Lykos

2023-04-21 Thread mochaaP via devel
Hi all!

My name is Zephyr Lykos, also known as @mochaaP. I am excited to introduce
myself to this community and share my skills and experiences with you all.

As a programmer and graphic designer, I am fluent in a variety of programming
languages, including C/C++, Python, and Rust. Additionally, I have extensive
experience with packaging for various Linux distros, including Alpine, Arch,
AOSC, and of course, Fedora.

You can find some of my work on my GitHub profiles at
 and , where I fix
compatibility issues with abandoned dependencies and resolve bugs.

Currently, my interests lie in exploring alternative Linux Desktop Environments
in Wayland, such as tiling window managers and alternative shells like
. In my spare time, I'm also working to
promote the adoption of the XDG Base Directory Specification among upstream
developers.

Looking to the future, I am eager to contribute to the Fedora community by
improving consistency from the workstation aspect to create a better
environment for power users, digital artists, gamers, and developers alike. I
hope to participate in a range of projects and make meaningful contributions
towards the growth of Fedora.

Best regards,
Zephyr Lykos

Dear Riya Bisht,

Welcome to Fedora! With your interest and experience with Qt and package

based on containers. I'm sure they would appreciate your involvement and
help you get started :)

Self Introduction: Riya Bisht

2023-02-22 Thread Riya Bisht
Hello everyone,
I am a junior computer science student from India and have been using Linux as
my main OS for about a year now.I love how Fedora works and would like to help
this community by contributing. As I am new to the Fedora ecosystem and to get
acquainted with it, I would like to start with testing and packaging work
because I have always been curious about package management systems in Linux.

My previous work:
- EndeavourOS iso testing
- Fixed a few technical bugs for KDE
- Worked on virtual machines to test different Desktop Environments like
Budgie, KDE, GNOME
- Built QT/QML apps
- Knows Python, C/C++, Git, Shell scripting
- Learnt about the open source ecosystem and attended a few online technical
talks on FOSS

During my free time, I try to read Linux From Scratch and watch Open source
events.
This concludes my introduction :)

I would be grateful if anyone could help me to get started with my Fedora
journey and I'm excited about giving back to this open source community.

Thank you,
Riya Bisht

Re: Self Introduction: Priscila Gutierres

2023-02-12 Thread Priscila Gutierres
Sandro,

I don't have a specific package in mind, and I think maintaining Xaos would
be an excellent starting point for me.
I have interest to maintain it.
Let's talk about this :-)

Welcome Priscila! Did you have a specific package in mind already? If
not I can offer you Xaos [1].

I recently adopted that package for someone else who wanted to become a
Fedora packager. Unfortunately, that didn't pan out.

Let me know if you are interested.

Self Introduction: Priscila Gutierres

2023-02-11 Thread Priscila Gutierres
Hello

My name is Priscila Gutierres, and I would like to introduce myself.
I'm not good at this, but as a background, I can tell you that I've been
working as package owner at Red Hat for 3 months, but I've been there
for more than two years.
I'm still learning about rpm packaging, but I would like to start
contributing as
soon as possible :-)
I would like to contribute as a maintainer, taking care of an orphaned
package.

Priscila.

Self Introduction: David Trudgian

2023-02-05 Thread David Trudgian
Hello!

I was kindly sponsored into the packager's group by Carl George late last year,
but had neglected to say hello here. My name is David Trudgian, and I'm
currently living in the far south-west of the UK, having returned to the clouds
and rain last year after 11 years in sunny Texas.

I first picked up a Linux distribution on a magazine cover CD in 1999, and have
spent much of my professional life and hobby time working/playing with it
since. I studied computer science in the early 00s, before migrating into
bioinformatics research, and then high performance computing. Currently, I work
on a container runtime used mainly in HPC, which I've now packaged for Fedora /
EPEL [1]. Hope to be picking up packaging of a couple more Go modules, to lead
to packaging of some related tools too.

Many thanks to those who have been so welcoming and generous with their
assistance already. I look forward to meeting others virtually, and perhaps in
person.

Cheers,

DT

Self Introduction: Tomi Lähteenmäki

2023-02-01 Thread Tomi Lähteenmäki

Hi all,

My name is Tomi Lähteenmäki and I have recently got my first package
review request [1] reviewed.

I got my first touch to Linux on vocational school and since then I
have been an user for a bit over decade now. For past two years I have
been running Fedora both at work and personal laptop/desktop.
Professionally I have been working with embedded systems running Linux
(doing stuff ranging from kernel configuration to software development
and DevOps).

My interests are mostly around software development with C/C++ for
embedded systems or desktops running Linux. I'm always happy talk
anything Linux related :)

As I'm new packager I'm still looking for a sponsor. But I'm looking
forward to contribute more, especially around Mobility related things
as I own PinePhone, which inspired my first package review request.

-Tomi

Looks like someone already sponsored Hussein, but just one note - do
join #rust:fedoraproject.org (or #fedora-rust via irc) and the Rust
mailing list, a lot of the packaging work is coordinated there.
