There is one release so far this year, qtwebkit-5.212.0-alpha4, based on WebKitGTK 2.12. Security support for 2.12 ended in September 2016. So that is the status of your "less outdated" version. Applications will continue to depend on it indefinitely if they have no flag date to migrate.
